  1. If he was so bad at RB why would he start in front of 4 healthy scholarship RB’s? Granted trying to recruit better players is standard for every school in the country. I think UNT signed a couple high school RB’s and one RB from the portal so far. The portal player was a second string RB at Missouri State who was behind a 3rd string RB transfer from K State. No one is saying Porter was Eric Dickerson but he was obviously the best choice according to the coaches and second best was McGill who played well and is younger but he still isn’t on scholarship either. So the “walk on for us” theory doesn’t fit when your best two RB’s were walk on’s. My biggest issue was the fact he wanted to stay. You lose staring QB, best TE,WR and O lineman but your leading rusher wants to stay and you let him walk? Maybe they will find a stud RB but for the 2024 season UNT’s most productive RB’s were both walk ons. What’s that say about the coaches evaluation of scholarship players?
  2. Pretty sure he wanted to keep him but they couldn’t find a scholarship for now. Was told he could play in bowl game even if he was in portal. If he didn’t find a place he liked he could come back. Took all the one reps during bowl prep then only two carries in bowl game so that pretty much tells you what the future would be. Hard to turn down scholarship even though he wanted to stay.
  3. Wasn’t Cobbs decision and he was only allowed 5 scholarships instead of 6. Not a high need position in Morris’s eye. What top RB would want to come to an offense and only get 10 carries on a good day
  4. ESPN brought it up on the broadcast that with players looking for NIL money all Porter wanted was a scholarship.
  5. Don’t think so but not sure. Basically they got their top two RB’s to play for free.
  6. He wanted a scholarship! Only reason he left was because UNT wouldn’t put their leading rusher on scholarship
  7. Porter was offered by UTEP but would much rather stay at UNT.
  8. He won’t be fourth or fifth string and likes UNT
  9. Not if UNT puts him on scholarship
  10. I appreciate the new players enthusiasm but very hard to see any kind of culture being built with all the transfers in and out. It’s not just a UNT problem.
  11. A lot of validity in what Franklin is saying. Tough for kids to get offers if they don’t go in portal but also tough if they want to have a chance for a national championship or big bowl game.
  12. The guys that were ahead of him to start last season are all gone.
  13. Wouldn’t be in portal if offered a scholarship
  14. If the guys in front of him were that much better than him then why did they tell them to go to the portal?
