With new AAC money, shouldn’t we be able to swallow losing Craponi’s salary if he gets fired? There has to be a better option
-
Looks like ACU also runs the 3-3-5 defense. So, not just from our angle, but also looks like it doesn’t work for them. Scrap this defense, Morris. Can’t be fully behind you if you think this is a good idea.
-
Agreed. He hasn’t been accurate.
-
Keep using Adeyi on those stretch runs.
-
A coach that is stubborn and continues to march the same philosophy that doesn’t work isn’t a good coach. A coach who continues to allow his coaches to be his downfall is on him 💯
-
That has to be the 3rd time I’ve seen Caponi run 3 down linemen on 3rd and short. Am I the only one that’s seen that? WTF!!!
-
Why is Chandler looking to go for a lot of deep passes? Just be efficient and go for the intermediate routes.
-
Nothing will change unless the guy running the D changes. I don’t think his philosophy is changing anytime soon.
-
Craponi will be the downfall of Morris if he doesn’t get this defense to improve. It’s sad when all of us are holding our breath even against an FCS team. I really need to see adjustments in the second half. Morris needs to put that starting line back in and keep them until near the end of the game.
-
I see they have been rotating OL. Some guys who haven’t played are plying now. Why? This is not a time to screw around. That’s why our offense has sputtered the last few series. They HAVE to be smarter than this. We’re not good enough to take anything for granted
-
I’m thinking Morris made a mistake offensively by continuing to throw passes instead of continuing to run. I’d we play smash mouth football, I don’t know if they can stop our RBs. Giving them more opportunity to score isn’t a smart move. Run the clock to halftime
-
This! They’re picking up 7yds easily before we even lay a hand on them. Caponi needs to adjust. Also, what’s the deal with a 3rd and short and rolling out only 3 DL?!?!
-
Imagine next year when we work on the transfer portal a little more to find defensive help.
-
Offense looking great. Lean on the run to set up the pass. Gotta give credit to the D for 3 series in a row. Let’s go!!!
-
So, undersized and 3-man line would be two things that gets me out of running that defense unless our guys grew 3-4 inches and gained 300lbs during the two weeks off
-
You sound like a reasonable person that has a good idea of what they see from our roster. You get my vote to be our new DC
-
Great response by chandler. Now the defense needs to quit trotting out that terrible 3-man line and go 4-down. No one can pass rush on the 3-man line. Giving their qb time will kill us
-
How did they miss that holding call by the ACU LT on the TD throw? This defense is just ridiculous. All they need to do is keep throwing those WR hot routes and they gain chunks
-
Most definitely the better/taller posts are at elite programs. However, there has got to be 6’10” guys out there, albeit with limited abilities, that can help. As they say, you can’t teach size. But, this is the problem. I know it’s hard to recruit bigs. It would be nice to even recruit internationally if they had the means.
-
When he was speaking about the defense going 4-down(linemen) against Cal and FIU, did anyone notice it then? Seems like they were predominantly in 3-3-5. It wasn’t until La Tech where I saw 4 actual DL. Is he also including an OLB walking down to the line as “down” personnel? Little confusing from Morris there.

North Texas vs ACU (9/30/2023) Score Predictions

I would agree with this. The defense just can’t continue to get gashed. They’ve got to dominate versus FCS teams especially since they’ve had two weeks to tweak and game plan. I just hope it’s not another Cal situation where we had ample time to prepare but don’t deliver. -
I’m sure it’s so tempting to these kids when well-known programs dangle all this cash in front of them with dreams of playing on Saturdays. Truth is, with these teams 2-deep (or more) with 4-5 star recruits, playing time is highly unlikely. I’m sure many regret it once they recognize they’re deeper in the depth chart than they expected. Especially when the NCAA has tweaked the transfer portal which limits transferring after the first time. So…money or ball?

Was keeping my eye out on some future AAC opponents of ours. Temple seems to have some defensive issues similar to us. If we limit mistakes/turnovers, it can be a competitive game. Haven’t seen UAB or Tulsa, but if our defense improves to mediocre, I believe we’ll have a chance. But, I wonder when coach morris will play some of his prized freshmen DBs. Should we be too concerned about eligibility with the transfer portal always looming? Maybe I’m just wearing green-colored glasses, but I have to believe this defense can improve. I’m not too worried offensively since Chandler Rodgers is now the starter and some adjustments to the OL have been made (flip flopping a couple guys on the line).
