Absolutely, and it was maddening. -

Perhaps because of his injury history, CM didn’t run as much as he could have. It would be a nice added wrinkle if our qb would be able to pick up some first downs on the run. That could definitely open things up more. -
RH lit into Grant Newell there. Didn’t know Ross had that much fire in him. I like to see it tho. It makes the players more attentive to the finer details

Now we need to find targets for him to throw to and OL to block. Also, I hope EM has more than just screens in the playbook to call. It should be a really interesting spring to see who will come out as the top dog in the QB room. -
'19 QB Maverick McIvor (San Angelo)

He would be a fantastic pickup -
Perhaps this could even solidify the defensive players coming with him. “I’ll stick with you if you stick with me. “

So far, only 3 names have hurt: 1. C Tyler Mercer 2. CM 3. DT The rest are meh

I’m sure we’re feeling a little disappointed with these guys leaving, but I want to wait and see who we pull from the portal before I grade this winter. Does Cassidy have enough pull to bring his defensive guys from SHSU? Does EM’s air raid offense still entice offensive skilled players? Is there a QB wanting to raise his stock and play here?
-
Revamped OL next season once again. At this point, wouldn’t be surprised to see Larry Moore and Makai (spelling?) Lee both enter the portal also after losing their starting spots during the season. Only one left is our other frosh LT whose name escapes me at the moment. I guess we’ll see more of Johnny Dickson…yay (sarcastically).

This is the nature of the beast, sadly. Not surprised nor angry. It’ll just be a year-to-year thing for G5 football. If CM gets more money to play somewhere else, I can’t fault him. Besides, this OL wasn’t good and he’d be running a lot trying to dodge DLmen. Hard to pass up $$$ while possibly moving on to a better team.

Breaking: North Texas Makes Skyler Cassity Hiring Official

Maybe it’s a good time to rewatch some SHSU football tonight. I want to start getting overly optimistic again -
Some would argue our defense wasn’t even to CUSA standards.

The rotations continue to kill me ever since last year. I get that he wants to go all out defense, and that takes a lot of stamina and effort, so I kinda see the subs every five minute intervals. But, how long do we need to see Moulaye be a detriment to this team offensively night in and night out? I believe he’s given too big of a role for what we need and what we can handle. He’d be much better in a backup role. Vice may have a better general understanding of basketball since he was a decent rated prospect out of HS and recruited by a respected program. Plus he’s got size which we’ve been wanting for this team. I don’t see why he and some of the younger guys aren’t playing, especially when could use more production. Is RH being too stubborn for his own good? If this is what he ran at juco, his system needs tweaking now that he’s up in D-1 basketball. There’s no rec league games up here and every game is crucial…especially when you’re a G5 program.

As I’ve mentioned before in another thread, in close games like these, the coaching has got to play a big part in helping you win. Yes the players must execute, but have we noticed anything different from RH when the games are tight?
-
They’re showing too many HPU shots go in against us.
-
I’m hoping for better pg play compared to last game. We need them to help setup the offense better and get some shots for our guys.

Can’t miss what wasn’t there.

A Flip For Us......Brayden Knox, DL, Putnam City, Oklahoma
3_n_out replied to SUMG's topic in Mean Green Football
That was the point I was ultimately trying to make. The defensive unit, holistically, was not good. If they want to follow him, I would question their football mentality and wouldn’t be averse to losing them. -

If they respect Caponi and want to follow him, then so be it. I’m not bashing them for that. All I know is what was here wasn’t working. If they want to continue down that route we’ve seen for two miserable years, I’m sure we can fill the void they’ve left easily. -

For those leaving because Caponi is no longer here…good riddance. If they couldn’t see how terrible they were, that’s on them.- 12 replies

Only way to do this is if we would’ve won more games. So, it is what it is.

Knowing the formation he’ll be using, that alone will help our defense. Bigger/ more bodies on the LOS attacking will always be more challenging to play against than 3 DL with the other 8 defenders dropping back. Also, I feel both sides of the argument regarding our new DC. Shiny and new things get me excited and hopeful, but I also hold some natural skepticism due to his youth and experience. Although he’s been a DC, the AAC is definitely a step up in competition compared to CUSA. More than likely, he’ll mostly be playing with the guys we already have. And, from the looks of the past couple of years, we still need a lot of help there. Overall, I’m absolutely glad we’ve moved on from Caponi. Now, let’s see if our new DC can simply get us ranked at around 70-80, and I’ll be pleased. -
This doesn’t seem apparent to our university up to now.

Essentially, this is the SL philosophy all over again. I mean, we are who we are and this is probably all the administrators are looking for…being just good enough to qualify for a low-tier bowl game. And, despite next year’s schedule, I just don’t have the confidence in an EM led club to mark wins down on stone. He looks lost, out coached and well in above his head. Everyone seems to have adjusted to the air raid…except for EM.
-
Excellent point. However, you could also look to hire a DC with skins on the wall that could possibly take over if/when EM gets fired. The possibility of being a possible HC for a D-1 program may be quite enticing to some…at least the thought of it.
