Brenen Lorient | F | 6-9, 215 | Junior The most obvious and appealing candidate comes in the form of Brenan Lorient, who appeared in all 35 games as UNT's sixth man and was second on the team in scoring with 11.9 points per game. He also tallied 5 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 blocks per contest as a hybrid power forward / center. He's an incredibly versatile big who operates both as a rim finisher and post creator who has solid handles and a legitimately good dribble jumper in his bag. Atin Wright led the Mean Green in scoring, but Lorient may have been the most impactful player on the team in 2024. He can be effective creating for himself and playing off the ball in the halfcourt, and can fill a wide variety of roles with his dynamic offensive skillset and high-upside defense. He has the ability to switch 1-through-5 and bolstered a 6.4 percent block rate this past season (No. 104 nationally). Lorient has one more year of eligibility remaining and began his career at FAU as a former 3-star prospect. He shot 57.9 percent from the floor and connected on 11 of his 23 three pointers this year (the season is still ongoing, however). read more: https://247sports.com/college/west-virginia/longformarticle/wvu-basketball-ross-hodge-transfer-portal-north-texas-247666550/

Ross Hodge Replacement Candidates?

This guy was a good recruiter back in the day. He could probably help us tap into some SEC caliber talent if we can feed him some NIL monies. https://hailstate.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/david--anwar/2985 -
Yes he will take all of the assistants and also Belo and Jasper. I think we may be able to retain Jossell if he is granted another year. That's about it. The new coach will bring some of his players though.

DENTON, Texas – Sun Belt Conference regular season co-champion and tournament runner-up Arkansas State surrendered a game-winning shot with 1.1 seconds left in a 65-63 defeat at North Texas in the second round of the 2025 National Invitation Tournament (NIT) on Sunday evening. The No. 3 seed in the Dallas Region, the Red Wolves (25-11) competed in their fifth NIT all-time and first since 1991. Arkansas State’s 25 wins are the most in a season in program history. Junior forward and All-Sun Belt Third Team selection Izaiyah Nelson led four Red Wolves scorers in double figures with 16 points and 14 rebounds for his 10th double-double of the season. Redshirt senior forward Kobe Julien added 15 points, while senior guard and All-Sun Belt First Team choice Taryn Todd scored all 12 of his points in the second half to go along with five assists to no turnovers, as junior guard Derrian Ford chipped in 10 points. North Texas (26-8) never trailed in the contest despite three ties including the final one at 63-all after a layup by Todd with 10 seconds remaining. The Mean Green held the final shot, as Jasper Floyd made a drive to the right of the basket, stopped, turned and sank a fadeaway jumper with one second left. Floyd and Latrell Jossell scored 18 points apiece to lead North Texas which shot 25-for-57 (.439) overall. Arkansas State shot 24-for-65 (.365) overall and 8-for-27 (.296) from 3-point range while owning a 30-26 scoring edge in the paint and a 12-3 advantage off turnovers. North Texas outscored the Red Wolves, 27-16, off the bench. https://sunbeltsports.org/news/2025/3/24/mens-basketball-arkansas-state-drops-heartbreaker-to-north-texas-in-nit-second-round.aspx

DENTON, Texas –The UT Arlington women's basketball team's 2024-25 campaign came to a close in the WNIT Second Round after falling 78-67 to North Texas inside The Super Pit on Monday night. UTA put on a passing clinic, recording an assist on 60 percent of made baskets. The UTA defense forced 22 turnovers. The Lady Mavs were active in affecting shots on the defensive end, recording nine blocks as a team which ties their season high in a game this season. UTA was outrebounded 42-24. Meanwhile, the Mean Green (26-8) also advanced in dramatic fashion, nipping Arkansas State 65-63 on Sunday night in Denton, Texas, when Jasper Floyd sank a turnaround jumper with two seconds left. The shot capped a fine all-around effort for Floyd, who finished with 18 points, five rebounds and four assists. "We were able to make one more play at the end," said North Texas coach Ross Hodge. "That's usually what it comes down to this time of year." North Texas finished second in the American Athletic Conference behind Memphis but lost in the AAC semifinals to UAB, dropping it into the three-letter tournament. Drake transfer Atin Wright leads the Mean Green in scoring at 14.9 ppg but managed just three points on Sunday night. They play at a slow tempo, averaging just 68.2 ppg, but are good on free throws (77.4 percent) and 3-pointers (36.0 percent). North Texas stopped Oklahoma State in the NIT quarterfinals two years ago in Stillwater on its way to the tournament title. This will be the second time the Cowboys and Mean Green have faced each other in an NIT quarterfinal game in GIA as the Pokes fell to a Grant McCasland and Tylor Perry-led team, 65-59 in overtime. Perry dropped 23 points on the Pokes en route to an NIT championship with a 68-61 win over UAB. Bryce Thompson is the only player who was on the roster then for the Cowboys and he finished with six points, three rebounds and four assists. Thompson has been a catalyst for the Pokes down the stretch this season as he scored 23 points in the win over Wichita State and 24 points Sunday against SMU. The Cowboys currently have five more wins than they did last season, while having two more wins out on the road. We’ll have a more in-depth preview on the game tomorrow, but the Cowboys have had a lot of success on the white maple and are 13-3 at home this season. read more: https://pokesreport.com/s/7207/oklahoma-state-hosting-north-texas-tuesday-in-nit-quarterfinals
