  1. The idea that Fuente agent, made a GMG profile to post Pro-Fuente messages is the most tin-foil hat thing I’ve seen. Let alone thinking that making a few posts here will make his client get a sweeter deal from UNT. LOL Fuente is someone who was rumored to be a potential last year 😂 he has Texas ties as well so it’s not a huge stretch to think people have interest in a Former P5 coach with a track record of success
  2. Everyone can have different opinions, but nitpicking random Twitter users because it fits your narrative is questionable… what it comes down is hiring a coach from the FCS, or hiring a coach who has had FBS success and has coached at a P5
  3. Patterson isn’t going to take a DC job, or at-least I doubt he would. He made plenty of money while atTCU and is making a descent amount now with UT it was said. i would more than willing to have someone like Emmitt on the staff but he does not from what I have seen, is experience with play calling. Yes it can be learned, but we have seen even with the most successful offenses we have had inexperienced OC have hot and cold streaks. (I would love for Emmitt to be on the staff for his connections alone but we need to bring in experienced and proven coaches. The American is not going to be like CUSA and breaking in a new QB and potentially a new supporting cast as well is enough, before adding in an inexperienced play caller). How would I Bring in emmitt, top his salary at Texh give him Co-OC and pair him with an experienced OC, and in a year or two, that OC leaves and Emmitt could take over also, yes the suggestions I have said for the staff would be potential very expensive, but the idea is that we had countless issues in the past with inexperienced Coords. It’s fine to have a 1st time inside WR coach or TE, etc coach but lacking experience at play caller has hurt us. I’m sure many of us can agree and would be more willing to donated/get tickets etc if the coaching pool was something that gave us hope.
  4. The point of my question is and was, if he is such a successful coach why are no other programs looking at him? i only bring this up because if other programs such as LAT have passed (and they seem to have a descent track record of football success) maybe it should be viewed as a red flag
  5. While I understand buyouts are less, i have no idea why his buyout would be but it sure as hell is not in the 1M territory. with that being said, he has had success, recruiting ties, etc.. I would honestly really like to see Fuente come in and bring in an assistant HC such as these FCS guys… I suggest this because the ideal hope would be Fuente would have success and be out of here in 3 years or less while allowing said FCS to continue laying groundwork and expand, which I think would allow us to have most success
  6. This is down the road, but if West Virginia is weak at basketball… I would assume we need to start looking at the potential movement of Grant M after the season getting a call from Wren….
  7. Random to quote you but I did since you mentions the line about the potential quality of the OC/DC… The reason we have had issues in the past is bringing in inexperienced people for said coaching spots. With that being said, bring in experienced play callers and hope they hit and they get pulled to another gig next year, allowing for another coach such as Emmit to go from WR coach in year 1 for example to OC in year2 or 3. hC/OC/DC need to be experienced in and need to be home runs. While I get the whole we need to offer him a spot/job title that shows upward movement, we have seen this program have terrible luck with inexperienced coaches. Not saying he isn’t a great coach but when you get in a funk, or a cold streak experience helps you get out of it. I bring this up because some of the best times we had under GH, we were hot or frozen cold. I would offer him say something along the lines od WR coach/assistant OC or something. But with that being said, I really hope the next coach looks at areas we have missed out on such as south Dallas and find effective recruiters to go into these places and establish a pipeline
  8. A legitimate question and should be asked... why did his assistants get poached but not him?
  9. Someone random from a VA board came here, so you find a random Twitter user to reinforce a point you want to try and prove to be valid? The only thing that shows is you’re looking for selective details to match your narrative. with that being said, who gives a crap about the status of his QBs, Dalton got TCU to the Rose Bowl and Lynch had Memphis ranked 15/16 in the country -_- Y’all are trying to push and go after Guys who have been coaches at FBS schools, while we could potentially get a proven winner in Fuente..
  10. Thank god we got input from Chris on Twitter…I really put a ton of weight into what he says since he has a fantastic track record… the point should be Fuente has developed multiple NFL QBs, which is what we need at UNT. Paxton was 1st RD draft pick… if you develop QBs in college, it’s much easier to recruit and get peoples attention. SL found and “developed” the 2 best statistical QBs in UNT history, and neither of them got/will get a whiff of the NFL.
  11. I will say this, yes it’s 50/50 on if Cobb continues on with UNT… with that being said.. its rumored that Fuente was a top of the list of we moved on from SL last year, and if this is true… Fuente likely has already spent some time looking over the current/previous staff, roster, etc. Boosters as well as someone like Wren (who was here when Cobb came back) has also suggested things about the staff as well. With that being said, he can see how the team looked last year vs this year and you can see the RB group is not an issue and it was one of the better spots for us. Also, RB coaches are also not as critical as say WR/OL/Etc depending on scheme as well.
  12. While this is true, we need to have a long run of success and develop an actual streak of winning. We now see the pros/cons of SL not going to KSt.. SL is a great guy and great coach, he gave us everything he had and vastly improved the program. But give me 2-3 HC/ADs who are here 2-3 years and move on.
  13. Let me say this, if this is true.. that is very worrisome and something needs to be done to change this with this new staff. what I mean by that is that the next staff that comes in needs to find people who can cut through the BS and someone whose only purpose is just community/HS out reach. They need to current a few just grad spots or something positions that goes to ex players such as Marcus Trice, pay him to just to go interact with coaches and cut through the crap… it can’t just be one or two people, it needs to be 8-9-10 who have different regions in which they are from who go and just meet with coaches. Also, find a young up and coming HS coach similar to UTSA former OC who is now heading to Oregon. Throw some TX HA coaches a bone showing them you as a staff are always lookin for young up coming talent and maybe it also helps you break the ice… I don’t care if it’s a passing game assistant or if someone helping in a scouting/recruiter office.
  14. I want a coach that isn’t going to be here in 4 years because he was hired away… We need to learn our lesson from SLwith Kansas State. We want and need the AD/Coaches to be successful and be out of here within a few years. Having coaches that progress upward gives us the ability to show success and upward movement is possible, along with collecting the buyout.
  15. Fuente is someone who checks the boxes, and is someone who likely comes with the blessing of Wren, and someone that Neal/Wren have both openly met with off the record as a fall back option for it this was to occur, if it was a year ago or this past weekend. Due Diligence has likely already been done on Fuente, and hopefully he is the pick. He has had success, been a P5 guy that if successful is out of here in 3-4 years with a nice buyout for us and a successor under him 🙂 I will also add in my 2 cents… with us not seeing any notable guys enter the portal that I’m aware of… I would assume names floated out there by the AD/Neal I would assume have drawn the interest of the players to wait it out potentially.
  16. I will say this and it has been openly reported here on the board and the podcast…. Last year when the team was 1-6, and on the the edge of firing SL they likely started to make a list of potential coaches. Going to the bowl last year bought SL another year. But the short list of potential candidates was already made and likely saved. Fuente is good friends it has been said with Wren, and I’m sure Wren and him discussed about the school, going to American, etc. I’m sure Wren also had talked with Neal about this move as well. The firing of SL is likely something Neal and Wren had likely discussed for weeks as a worst case scenario. Wren is a very smart and tactical person from my good and bad run ins with him within the department. I would assume Wren gave Neal a list of candidates that would fill a need/target that Neal would want (and be a coach that an AD the would be happy to inherit). Jared is also the most likely and logical candidate for the job, it if Fuente is the hire, I would assume Mosley is the guy as well so it’s a near seamless transition. with that being said, Fuente has roots and connections to within the state, and I hope multiple of the names mentions here from small schools are brought onto this staff. Going from being a HC at SFA to an assistant here isn’t a huge move but getting that recruiting network that is already built is vastly needed.
