I have no issue with Emmitt, nor do I know all the exact titles coach’s have.. I would love for him to be added to a future staff here. I just have hesitation to add a guy who as far as I know isn’t calling plays, calling the plays our first year in the American, with a new HC/QB, etc. I just remember back to when GH was here and he had not called plays before, and we had streaks that we looked amazing and streaks we couldn’t get back to the line or scrimmage… I’d like to see Emmitt come in and give him whatever title/titles and allow him to open up Dallas to the new staff, and allow for him to develop as a coach and play caller, then in a year or two after we have somewhat stabilized the ship allow him to take over play calling duties.

Not to get into the fine print, or craziness… I have no idea about this NET but did we jump passing 2 teams (either because we won and they lost or they didn’t play) or did 2 teams over us drop down below us because of losses, or off night? either way I’m happy we improved even though I have no idea what it is.

To me, I hope wren tried to take one of his trusted guys with him, I just will worry if this drags into something we don’t hear anything by Christmas, then Mosley becomes the guy early next year.

Not every gig or hiring is the same, the only thing that truly matters is finding coaches who can coach and recruit. The university has established a floor, in terms of what they have/are putting into the football team now. If they truly want to see improvements, they need to improve salaries for assistants, and allow for recruiting budgets to be expanded. Look at the success we have had with basketball, getting someone who can coach is most important and someone with a knowledge of the recruiting landscape.

While I get the whole process, I would assume that Wren (if he is a good guy and a friend or NS), he would have been open to NS about potential discussions with WV.. is it crazy to think that? I would hope/assume if Wren was open about what was going on behind closed door, the process likely has already been started looking for an AD. With that said, I would assume the open interview process, etc is normal (I don’t recall any other schools having an AD in waiting tag for someone). I think JM is likely the guy for the job as well, but also kind of worrisome that Wren didn’t poach him or take him with him to WV and this process drags out longer than expected. Does anyone recall how long the process was for both gigs (HC and AD) after it was announced to the public that search firms were helping?

His brother also was under a HC legend for multiple years and inherited a team stacked as well with multiple first overall picks…

This may not be a sexy hire, but I would really like to see someone with a track record in terms of him being a ACU HC, multiple P5 Gigs, and success within the state in terms of recruiting. I have not done deep dive into him, but he has things that could be a help in recruiting

The difference between SL when hired and Fuente currently… Fuente has connections to Texas, Fuente has had success in the G5 and moved up to P5… the comment about recruiting was meant to imply and my bad for not going into detail.. that recruiting isn’t going to change for the most part from the Hc nor the overall profile/level or recruit. We aren’t magically going to hire a FCS coach or hot OC that is going to walk into a 4*/5* house for a visit and flip them… it’s on the coaches to take those 3* we get and coach them up and put them into positions to develop into more.

The topic of coaching at Memphis is that we have often go up against Memphis for recruiting, and they have been a team that is and was ranked in the top 15 when Fuente was there.. Memphis while it may not be a sexy big name like VT, it is a school that has a high level of success when Fuente was there lol

I agree with everything you said, but the reason the stance taken/presented was sole based on the comment about individuals time on the board lol as if it that mattered or changed anything.

While I agree, it more likely not going to change anything… i also would like to give benefit of the doubt to someone like JayD who has been more often correct, when it comes to quality of coaching hires.. I just hope Neal expands the coaching budget for assistants to allow us to go get multiple layers of coaches who have records sid on field success and recruiting connections.

The Twitter you linked is handle has Coach in it… the bio is SFA Head Football Coach lol… it’s his work Twitter handle dear lord Lol I would gladly pass on that after some of the office politics that the AD office had/still has to this day.

The way to improve recruitment is done with improving facilities, on field success, and quality coaches.. JayD even said on the podcast, the Coords if Fuente is linked to bringing in would be great hires. Their ability to develop players/gameplays and ability for them to bring in solid position coaches is what will make the difference. The position coaches need to be the hungry recruiters doing 60-75% of the work with the recruiting department, and the HC/Coords who seal it with their success and track record. Fuente has connections with Texas HS, he has had success at the G5 level and has produced 1st round/NFL everywhere he goes, and has coached at the P5 level. He has been open and honest about changes he would make and that VT was the opposite of what he had expected… he has a history here in Texas and knows what to expect (and has had a year to look at UNT as well along with getting Intel on program from Wren).

What you’re trying to imply, the football department media team tweeting a photo of a steak, is him being a hungry recruiter? Or the media department tweeting about weekend visits makes him a hungry recruiter… because SL would tweet about recruiting weekends and we know how that turned out…

Sure, someone like Fuente can and will go on some in home visits, but he isn’t going to be the main recruiter such as what was implied. Also, talking to Kids parents, telling them he coached at Memphis, TCU, was HC at VT is much more impressive than oh my best coaching gif was UIW…

I’d be all for it, but I’m sure Patterson is getting some other sources of income to go with the 150k working at UT.

Lmfao I made a profile here because Of SL firing.. I was on the board in the past but got outted directly to the AD by his forum MODs back in the day when I was interning at the AD department. the idea just because someone is new and has a different opinion so you just assume it’s a bad actor (or the agent for candidate you don’t like LMFAO) as well makes you come across as that crazy EX gf who accuses you cheating, then it turns out she was lol.

It shouldn’t be the HC to be the hungry recruiter… it should be the position coaches and recruiting department which we seem to have a highly thought of recruiting department. yes the HC has input, but the HC should not be the one day in day out chasing random 3* At X position. It should be the position/Coords. The HC should be the one helping to seal the deal.

You’re now interpreting and projecting what you think someone is potentially implying… all players, coaches etc will say they are looking for the best fit, its not a deal breaker when/if someone offers you a pay bump from current gig. We have seen here at UNT, say they are happy and they love the campus/staff/etc then they transfer a year or two later… it’s all BS sports talk lol
