I don't think we can view it as a bad hire just yet only because there is nothing to judge yet, we can definitely be concerned though. Its like a draft you really don't know till a couple years down the line. I will say I am a lot more excited on him than the LB coach. I have heard nothing but great things on Gary's Recruiting and Coaching ability.

Yeah it looks to be happening. I don't understand this one and I get recruiting is important but the theme on defense so far is alarming. It's not dodge esque but it's on the bleeding edge. At least he has DFW ties.

Our ST and OC coordinators have not changed their twitter profiles at all along with our TE coach. Terrible look, this is definitely something that needs to be addressed. Prospective athletes might get likes on twitter from these staff members thinking they about to get three different offers and not one being North Texas.

Can he coach the talent up is the issue with this hire, LB is exponentially more important in the new D system than say TE with an offensive minded HC. Seems like a stretch man. Player personnel from what I've seen is mostly scouting, setting visits, and maintaining touch with recruits but no actual coaching. These are amazing to have within the program and do work closely with on field staff but waiters bring chefs tickets not make the food themselves. I'm not saying its the wrong hire just concerning.

Its really about perception with the OC hire, having it leaked that Davis was the WR coach and not OC/WR coach first makes it look like we couldn't get who we wanted. If it was always Davis then it should of been leaked that way. To me it looks like we swung and missed and are in damage control for OC/OL.

Nah I just wish we hired more experienced position coaches especially with a new HC, OC, DC in first time roles. Its a D1 coaching job we should of had more quality to pick from than an ex TE with no Texas ties. Everyone gets a chance but you can definitely hold skepticism on a hire like this.
