UC San Diego coach Eric Olen could be coaching in San Diego next season, but it might be a league game at Viejas Arena against San Diego State. The architect of UCSD’s 30-5 record and NCAA Tournament berth in the program’s first season of Division I eligibility is a finalist for the vacancy at New Mexico, according to multiple sources close to the hiring process. The other known finalist is Andy Kennedy from Alabama-Birmingham. New Mexico went 27-8, claimed the Mountain West regular-season title and won a game in the NCAA Tournament before exiting against Michigan State last Sunday. Three days later, coach Richard Pitino was hired by Xavier of the Big East. The front-runner for the job was initially considered former USD player and assistant coach James Borrego, who has spent most of his career in the NBA and is currently an associate head coach with the New Orleans Pelicans. But the Albuquerque Journal reported Friday that the Albuquerque native withdrew from consideration, and sources said the search narrowed to Olen and Kennedy. UCSD gave Olen a new contract last summer that raised his 2024-25 salary from $270,000 to $345,000 plus an $85,000 “talent fee” (taking it to $430,000). Performance bonuses for Big West coach of the year and the NCAA Tournament appearance elevate it to $485,000. In addition, he is in line for a separate $65,000 “retention” bonus if he’s still at UCSD on June 30. What also makes Olen attractive, especially in an era where schools are trying to save every dollar for NIL payments to players, is that his buyout lowered from $712,000 to a mere $150,000 in his new contract. Kennedy’s would be substantially higher. link: https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/2025/03/29/ucsd-basketball-coach-eric-olen-is-finalist-for-opening-at-mountain-west-program/

Ross Hodge Replacement Candidates?
JT Hammons replied to Jonnyeagle's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I like the idea of Rodney Terry. And you would not have to pay him too much because he has a huge buyout from UT. Dude can recruit. -
Head roll? haha you are funny. If you haven't figured it out by now, places like UNT are pass thru institutions. Jared, Prez Keller the players are all just passing thru until they can get a better gig and more money. There is no loyalty. But they will be quick to kick the fans in the nuts and blame us for all that ails them. Follow the money!

I have watched the film and Irvine's big man will give Sissoku and us major trouble.

Yeah right, cry me a damn river. "Let's do it for the Kids!" Yeah the kids that will bail on us in a second for a couple grand more in NIL monies? Where are "The kids" from last years squad. Oh yea I forget they bailed on us for more money... It's just another example of UNT greasing the wheel versus representing the alumni and universities best interests. Jared wants Ross to put in a good word for him up at WVA after Wren gets a bigger job is all it is.

Most of them are graduating. The only big ones we lose to portal NIL are Jasper and Belo

Big money donors - yes even at SMU - are getting fatigue from all of this spending of their hard earned money and no ROI. Especially tough sell at a G5 who already has the deck stacked against them.

How do we match up with Texas Arlington? Anyone know if they are any good?
-
I put a call into the AD to get an explanation and they tole me it was a mistake from some guy named Randy and they apologized. Not to nitpick cause I know people make mistakes but damn they act like they forgot to take the trash out. This shit is important. How we present our fans to the world is important to our image.

AAC Names Parchman Most Outstanding Indoor Field Performer DENTON, Texas — UNT weight thrower Jake Parchman was named the Men’s Indoor Most Outstanding Field Performer from the 2025 AAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, the conference announced Thursday. Men’s and Women’s Most Outstanding Track Performer and Field Performer awards are presented to student-athletes who recorded the highest-ranking marks on the NCAA's Division I performance list during last week's American Indoor Track & Field Championships. Parchman’s school-record mark of 21.01 meters in the weight throw at the conference meet was No. 43 in the country this year. Parchman was the lone conference champion for the Mean Green at the AAC Championships. His final attempt was the best throw of his career, surpassing his own school record for the third time this season. He is just the second male athlete to win the award in program history, joining Jordan Wehr in 2011. The UNT track and field progam is set to kick off the outdoor season March 21-22 in Fort Worth at the TCU Alumni Invite.

And then there is this: Institutional Property Advisors Brokers Asset Sale for University of North Texas Student Housing Gateway at Denton Institutional Property Advisors (IPA), a division of Marcus & Millichap, announced the sale of Gateway at Denton, a 228-unit, 696-bed, purpose-built student housing asset located near the University of North Texas (UNT) in Denton, Texas. “Enrollment at UNT grew over 24% during the past five years to 47,507 students in fall 2023,” said Peter Katz, IPA executive managing director. “With this rapidly growing enrollment and little-to-no recent deliveries, the demand for off-campus student housing is outpacing supply, and as a result, Gateway at Denton is 100% occupied for the 2024-25 school year. Our team is appreciative to have helped facilitate this highly competitive bidding environment, and we acknowledge the seller and buyer on their collaboration in completing the trade.” Katz and Drew Kile, IPA executive managing director, represented the seller, Los Angeles-based MJW Investments, and procured the buyer, Vesper Holdings. Tim Speck, senior vice president and division manager is Marcus & Millichap’s broker of record in Texas. The property is the first stop on Denton County Transportation Authority’s BST 164 bus line that takes students directly to campus. Rayzor Ranch Town Center, which includes a Sam’s Club, Walmart, WinCo, Albertsons, Petco, Academy Sports, and Marshalls is within a 10-minute drive. https://yieldpro.com/2024/09/gateway-at-denton/

Top 50 NIL Budgets for Football (Memphis makes the list)
JT Hammons replied to GMG24's topic in Mean Green Football
I am all for transparency but goodness you would have lockerroom fights if you publicized what one player was paid over another one. I think you have to leave the amounts that are paid to the coaches. If you don't trust the NIL to do the right thing then you have much bigger issues. My problem with the Light The Tower or whatever it is called NIL for football is that a large portion of the donation like 20-30% goes to the Houston guys that run it. I want all the money to go to the players. That is why I choose not to participate in it.
