NCAA D1 🏈 Facility Arms Race Continues…
cousin oliver replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Great idea @PlummMeanGreen Would love to see them embrace Apogee for the jewel that it truly is. Why does it have to be such a ghost town outside of the football season? I would love to see us do some concerts, farmers markets and trade shows and make better use of the facilities out on Eagle Point as well. -

DENTON – UNT softball knocked off No. 6/7 Oklahoma State 5-1 on Wednesday at Lovelace Stadium. The Mean Green secured its first home win against a ranked opponent since April 17, 2013, a 5-3 win over No. 19 Baylor. “What a great win in front of a great crowd,” head coach Rodney DeLong said. “We really fed off the energy of our fans. Our defense and pitching were really tough again today and that is key for us. We also had some timely hits that helped us score late. I couldn’t be more proud of this group that has overcome a lot to get to this point.” North Texas (30-20) played in front of its largest home crowd in program history with an attendance of 481 for the midweek matchup. The Mean Green fought back against OSU (41-10) after it fell behind 1-0 in the top of the second inning. Wednesday’s victory marked the fourth win against a top-10 team in program history and first since the Mean Green defeated No. 5 Oklahoma 4-3 in eight innings on Feb. 29, 2020, in Norman, Okla. Skylar Savage (W, 7-4) started for UNT and allowed one run on five hits and two walks over five innings. She also collected the last win over a ranked opponent when the Mean Green prevailed over No. 25 Nebraska at the NCAA Regionals on May 21, 2022. Ashley Peters (S, 2) closed the game and allowed no runs on one hit with no walks and one strikeout. North Texas’ defense posted numerous highlight reel plays including a pair of double plays and diving catches from left fielder Rylee Nicholson and first base Kailey Gamble. The Cowgirls placed only one runner in scoring position with the lone run coming from a solo home run in the second inning. Katy Truitt sparked a three-run fifth inning with a single up the middle and later scored on a Lexi Cobb RBI single. Cierra Simon followed with a two-out ground ball to shortstop which was misplayed resulting in a two-run error. Gamble opened the bottom of the sixth with a single and was substituted by pinch runner Emma Grahmann. Grahmann collected her fourth stolen base of the season before scoring on an error at first base off the bat of Truitt. Molly Rainey tallied her second hit of the night with an RBI single to score Truitt. Oklahoma State transfer Tatum Sparks secured the final out of the game on a pop up in foul territory to seal the 5-1 victory. UP NEXT The Mean Green open its final home series of the season on Friday against Middle Tennessee at 6 p.m. on ESPN+. Tickets for the homestand at Lovelace Stadium are available HERE.

Agreed, and unless you are SMU with money to burn there is not much you can do. I choose not to worry about to too much.

UNT Day Of Giving has Officially Kicked Off!!
cousin oliver replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
I agree. I would much rather be involved with a giving endeavor tied to this site or the people here who seem to really care. Where does the money for the scholarship fund go? I want to give my money to NIL because that seems like it could be a much better return on investment. -

GMG Report: Hearing Dane Jackson Headed to the Portal

I seem to recall Coach Littrell saying he wasn't worried about recruiting grades or size. He felt like his group of coaches would be able to "coach them up." -

However, despite the university’s athletic success, attendance has not matched. As the Mean Green moves to a new conference and closes out a decade-long era, fans, too, should up their game. Attendance at games has been positively linked to how athletes play. No one showing up leaves players feeling dejected and kills motivation and atmosphere at sporting events. Yet, even while playing for seats that remained mostly unfilled, North Texas sports teams continue to perform at high levels. Football had five players on the All-C-USA first team. Two players were named College Football News Freshman All-Americans. Junior quarterback Austin Aune and senior linebacker KD Davis broke school records. After Seth Littrell’s firing in December, a new head coach Eric Morris looks to continue on success laid out in the previous football era. Littrell was never able to win a C-USA title or bowl game in his tenure, tarnishing his legacy at the university among fans. Morris will need to find success early in order to endear himself to fans. Sports — and especially college sports — have always brought people together. They create an atmosphere and feeling that is nearly impossible to get anywhere else at any other time. Supporting athletic teams at your college is a rare privilege that students will likely never get to experience again in their lives, and they must capitalize on this opportunity while they have the chance. Whether your team is winning or losing hardly matters when you’re holding a hamburger and shouting at a sporting event surrounded by your friends and peers, but yelling at and supporting a team setting records and winning games is much more enjoyable. Students have a responsibility to their teams and to themselves to attend games, and with our teams currently playing at such a high level, there has never been a better time before now. As the spring shifts to summer, a new era of North Texas athletics is on the horizon. With things looking up for the university, fans and students must embark on a new journey with the Mean Green, showing support to deserving programs. I suspect we will soon see an inclusion of UNT-Dallas on the schedule. Sort of feels like we "Owe" it to them due to the fact we are part of the same system. https://untdathletics.com/sports/mens-basketball/schedule?path=mbball https://untdathletics.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/joshua-howard/52
