  1. HOUSTON – The UNT men’s basketball team beat Rice on the road Tuesday night 67-61 to move into second place of the American Athletic Conference standings. With the win, second year Mean Green head coach Ross Hodge picked up his 19th league win. It’s the most conference wins in a North Texas head coach’s first two seasons, surpassing Tim Jankovich who was hired in 1993. Tuesday, UNT (18-6, 9-3) was led in scoring by Atin Wright who finished with a game-high 20 points, his fifth 20-point game of the season. But it was late buckets and stops by Johnathan Massie to hold off the Owls (12-13, 3-9) Tuesday night at Tudor Fieldhouse. “We have the utmost respect for (Rice) coach Lanier and his staff and we knew it wasn’t going to be easy in their building, but our guys responded so well when they went on that late run,” Hodge said. “I’m so proud of this group.” Tuesday was a wire-to-wire win for the Mean Green but Rice never trailed by more than 11 and tied the game at 61 with 1:15 to go. With 23 seconds left Massie went to line, having missed his last six free throw attempts, but the senior sank both shots to give UNT a two-possession lead. UNT finished the game against the Owls with a season-high 17 assists. The second-most assists the Mean Green have had a game in the Hodge era. Up next for North Texas is an eight-day break before hosting Tulsa Wednesday night at the Super Pit. 2. Agreed probably should have specified basketball and you may have let me have a pass.
  3. Disappointing start and hate to see it with UAB losing tonight to ECU.
  4. HOUSTON – Coming off a home win over Tulane, the UNT men’s basketball team travels to Rice on Tuesday. The Mean Green (17-6, 8-3) and the Owls (12-12, 3-8) are scheduled to tip-off from Tudor Fieldhouse at 8 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield and on ESPNU. North Texas had one of its best offensive performances of the season on Saturday in its 76-66 win over Tulane. The Mean Green tied their single game season high with 11 made 3-pointers and had an offensive efficiency rating of 135.8. The only game this season where UNT had a higher offensive efficiency rating was in its home matchup against Rice on Jan 8, which the Mean Green won 81-59. Tuesday, UNT is aiming to win its fourth in a row overall against the Owls and its fifth straight at Tudor Fieldhouse. North Texas has not lost at Rice since Feb. 1, 2020, and leads the all-time series history in games played in Houston, 11-5. With a win on Tuesday the Mean Green and head coach Ross Hodge can also set program history. The second-year UNT head coach has racked up so far 18 total league wins in his first two seasons as the Mean Green’s head coach. It is tied with Tim Jankovich for most league wins in a UNT head coach’s first two seasons in Denton. Jankovich was hired in 1993 and won nine Southland Conference games in each of his first two seasons as the Mean Green’s head coach. Hodge won 10 league games last season in his first year and has led UNT to eight so far this year with seven more to go, including Tuesday. After Tuesday’s game in Houston, North Texas has an eight-day break before hosting Tulsa on Feb. 19. It will be the Mean Green’s first and only regular season matchup against Tulsa. 5. That may have been the worst trade in the history of mankind!
  6. We have had about 5 years of sustained success in basketball with Mac and Boss Hodge. We have had a basketball program for a hundred years b4 that or whatnot. How can you say in 5 years of SUSTAINED success we can overcome the past century of mediocrity?
  7. AD's are usually running the business not marketing for tickets.
  8. Yes alot of them have gone to A&M in my experience.
  9. Nice to see new names in the donation column. there are so many more though.
  10. Sad to say it but feel like we are in a free fall right now. And I don't see it changing soon.
  11. 100% correct. These athletic departments are all going to be running the NIL show going forward.
  12. DENTON, Texas – Head coach Eric Morris announced the addition of two new student-athletes to the UNT football team on National Signing Day Wednesday. The Mean Green added Bryce Garza our of Wolfforth, Texas and Terrence Lewis from Brenham, Texas. The pair of signees join the nine other additions who signed in early December to make up an 11-person 2025 high school signing class. “We really like this entire group of high school players we signed,” Morris said. “We got bigger in a lot of areas. We addressed some needs that we had on both sides of the football. Everyone saw it this past season, we played 10 true freshmen in the bowl game. So being able to get this group of players added to improve our roster for 2025 is big.” In total, nine of the 11 high school prospect hail from the state of Texas while two played high school football in Oklahoma. Two of the high school prospects, Chris Jimerson Jr. and Jaden Manning, enrolled at UNT in January and will compete with the Mean Green this spring. The remaining nine players will join the Mean Green in the summer of 2025. A full list of the entire 2025 signing class, including transfer prospects, is attached here and is also available onlin at the 2025 UNT Football National Signing Day Central. 2025 UNT Football February Signing Class Player Pos. 13. The Mean Green (16-6, 7-3) were led in scoring by senior Jasper Floyd who finished with 15 points, his most since the season opener. Brenen Lorient added 12 points off the bench and big man Moulaye Sissoko recorded his third career double-double as he finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds. UNT had an opportunity to tie it on the final possession of the game but the Blazers defended it well and the Mean Green were unable to get a shot off. “I loved our fight, of course disappointed in the outcome, I thought the game was pretty even across the board but ultimately it’s hard to not look at the box score and see the 15 turnovers,” said head coach Ross Hodge. “But a ton of respect for UAB and coach Kennedy.” Team stats across the board were pretty even, however, UAB (15-8, 8-2) was strong at forcing turnovers Monday night. They forced 15 North Texas turnovers to the Blazers 11. UAB scored 17 points off those turnovers. Next up for UNT is a four-day break before hosting Tulane Saturday at the Super Pit. 14. So it sounds like all future NIL donations will be going directly to the AD. Will we be able to get a tax donation like before?
  15. Seems like he played better in the first half of the season. But yeah he was extremely good and accurate early on. Seems like our defense should be improved with all the Sam Houston State players. Morris is a great offensive coach but his terrible DC hire will always haunt him as a head coach.
  16. If the ultimate direction of this is to pin the blame on Jared then you and I are going to have a problem.
