The State of Mean Green Football, in Haiku
Glory to the Green replied to greenminer's topic in Mean Green Football
This one’s a bit more hopeful: TSU’s in town Mean Green’s bound for 2-1 The win streak begins -
I did. We ran for over 200 yards on them (Redzone was a different story). We had open receivers that were under thrown (they were also under thrown vs UTEP, but those passes were completed due to lesser competition). On defense, our running defense was okay. The passing defense left much to be desired. Mordecai is the best QB we’ll face this year. At times, his receivers made us look bad. UNT had its chances to make the game competitive in the first half, but consistently crapped the bed (offense, defense, and ST). I’m not throwing the baby out with the bath water, though. This team can still have a very good season. Will it? I’m not sure, but I hope so. I also hope the team learns from Saturday and uses it to fuel the rest of the season.

You’re right. It was the most spirited I’d ever seen a UNT fan base, though. Positive and negative. Regardless of the coach, I hope I’m able to experience it again. It’s fun when the games matter. GMG!

It may be my green glasses, but I don’t think this team is that far away from being competitive this year. I don’t know about next year, but this team is way too talented and there are too many quality coaches here to crap the bed again. I see this being a quality year. I think we’d need to GG or Earle, or someone else to get a true feel for next season. The QB is too important a position to not have a contingency plan. I’m not even sure I answered your question. GMG!

I’m currently backing SL! He’s coaching for UNT and I want him to succeed because it means our team is successful. But since we’re talking about it, Skip Holtz. That guy was a thorn in our side for the longest time. He did it with less, too. I’m team Seth, but if Wren goes in a different direction after the season, Skip would be a solid hire.

If the defense crowds the line, our receivers are better than our opponents secondaries. Shorter, Bush, Maclin, Burns, Roberts, Gumms, etc will make them pay like they did vs UTEP. The margin for error vs SMU was/is smaller than our CUSA competitors. Passes that were completed in Week 0 weren’t in Week 1. I’m hoping for some better passes as the year progresses, but it’s not likely. This team will win some games. This is fun, right? GMG!

Worried after thinking about the AAC
Glory to the Green replied to meangreenfaninno's topic in Mean Green Football
As of the last few years, SMU seems to play their best football to start the season (which is when we play them). For one reason or another, they have not finished as strong. They have a good team, man. Let the season play out. See how our team responds, then go from there. Enjoy the ride. 😎 -
We led 21-0, or 21-7. It wasn’t because the team wasn’t prepared, it was the in game adjustments. That was the trend for our teams back then…start hot, then hold on for the win. It should have never even been close. LaTech weathered the storm and beat us. Sucked that we lost, but it was a good game/atmosphere.

WB has said more than once, “I’m not paid to make the emotional moves.” This one game sucks and doesn’t bode well going into the AAC, but most of us had it as a loss (despite our green fandom). Aune is likely the starter next week (I’d be shocked if GG started next week, but you never know with this staff). The season is far from over. The team has some issues, but it also has some strengths. We’re 1-1. I’ll be there next Saturday. Beat TSU!- 58 replies

Mordecai is pretty good. Camar Wheaton, their Alabama transfer didn’t even play much. They’ll win more than 5

If you were like me and forgot....

That was fun to watch. I’m not really a purist, but I don’t miss those gray helmets, or the all gray unis. GMG! -
I like the Texas with the embedded eagle.

They likely go 0-3 or 1-2 in their first few weeks. That’s a tough start. If they end up 2-1 or 3-0, I’ll start paying attention. Until then,

Didn’t they used to say “Fear the Beak. Respect the Pecker” or something like that? I couldn’t keep a straight face. 😂😂😂

Wild. Never heard this story. Thanks for sharing. So @drexdesigned the battle flag for us? I’d be interested in that story. It’s been flying at our house since Saturday. GMG! -

UNT vs SMUt Score prediction
Glory to the Green replied to UNT Family Man's topic in Mean Green Football
UNT- 27 SMU-24 I think our defense comes up big this week. AA does just enough to open up the running lanes. Great team win to energize our fan base! GMG! -
