SOURCE: http://www.dentonrc.com/sharedcontent/dws/...4.4f30709d.html College football: Miami's Berry interested in UNT vacancy 11:21 PM CST on Sunday, December 3, 2006 By Brett Vito/Staff Writer Miami quarterbacks coach Todd Berry confirmed on Sunday that he has contacted North Texas athletic director Rick Villarreal to express interest in the school's opening for a head coach. Berry was the head coach at Illinois State from 1996-99 and Army from 2000-03. He spent two seasons as Louisiana-Monroe's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2004-05 before joining the staff at Miami. Hurricanes head coach Larry Coker was fired on Nov. 24. "I initiated some contact with Rick Villarreal about the job," Berry said. "It's the best job in the Sun Belt Conference. You need two things to have success: a recruiting base and a university that you can sell to recruits. North Texas has both. It is an excellent university and is close to some of the best high school players in the country in the Dallas area. That gives you a chance to win." UNT is looking for a replacement for former head coach Darrell Dickey, who was fired on Nov. 8 during his ninth season at the school. Berry said he talked to Villarreal once and tried to set up a meeting while he was in Dallas recruiting recently. Berry said scheduling conflicts prevented him from meeting with Villarreal. Berry said he has yet to hear from Villarreal since their initial conversation. Berry is one of several college assistant coaches who have either expressed interest in UNT's opening or been mentioned in connection with the job. Georgia Tech running backs coach Curtis Modkins has expressed interest. South Carolina defensive coordinator Tyrone Nix talked with Villarreal about the job but has since pulled out of the running. Southlake Carroll head coach and former UNT offensive coordinator Todd Dodge said he would talk with UNT officials about the job after the Dragons’ season that was extended another week on Saturday with a win over Odessa Permian. Carroll will play Colleyville Heritage on Saturday in the Class 5A Division I state quarterfinals. UNT could be looking for a head coach to bring some life to its offense that has struggled the last two seasons. Berry was a quarterback at Tulsa from 1979-80 and has spent most of his career coaching on the offensive side of the ball. Berry coached Miami quarterback Kyle Wright, who ranks second in the Atlantic Coast Conference with an average of 183.9 passing yards a game. He also coached one of the most prolific quarterbacks in Sun Belt Conference history at ULM in Steven Jyles. Berry turned around a struggling program at Illinois State that had won more than five games in a season just once in the previous 10 years before his arrival, guiding the Redbirds to the 1999 Gateway title, the Division I-AA semifinals and an 11-3 record. Berry, who finished 24-24 at Illinois State, was unable to replicate the success he enjoyed late in his tenure with the Redbirds at Army, where he finished with a 5-35 record in just over three seasons. Berry has been known for running a wide-open offense throughout his career that also included stints as an offensive coordinator at East Carolina (1992-95), Southeast Missouri State (1991) and Tennessee-Martin (1986-88). That's freakin' awesome news... Go PATRICK...
-
But then if they did that, the Juniors who will be Seniors next year will want to wear LIGHT GREEN (from the 70's), and the Sophomores GRAY (just because) and the Freshman NAVY BLUE & GOLD (from the 90s)... where will it end? I would have prefered they not take "requests" to wear differnt color jerseys and stick with the basic KELLY GREEN or WHITE.

One down... er, um... I mean "out". -
In Frisco... roads are wet... no ice spotted, but take it easy out there. Wouldn't want to lose members of our fan base due to weather. <darn typos>

Smitty, Great job... Keep 'em coming.
-
You think he wants Troy to loose or something... of course if they do, MTSU would be in a bowl, would they not?
-
Hell yes... that site has been around for the last 3 years, I only now posted it here because I wanted some of the kinks worked out of it. It seems there's always something that I find interesting and try to incorporate into that page as well. As you can tell it's a "monster" to load now. Thanks for the comments. GMG!

Smitty, Thanks all of those look great. I know I certainly apprecaite the effort, as does my own website. LINK

SWEET! That's great... Hey if this is hte first draft... I'd like to see the next versions too.

Someone have a program that can send multiple emails to their mailbox requesting a change. Better yet maybe everyone can send the same/similar email and we can do a "Shawshank Redemption" type thing to get it changed. A wild thought I know... but if we can VOTE over 40K times for a cheerleader from the Sun Belt Conference, I think we can do this too. GMG!

So what happened, earlier this week (i.e. yesterday) we had 3 SBC teams listed on various Bowl Projections... Troy, MTSU, and ULL. Now we are only going to the NO Bowl. Jeez... that sucks! SOURCE: http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=451&p=2&c=557866

A while back I emailed the folks at YAHOO! about updating the NCAA football logo they use on their Footbal webpages for North Texas. I did receive a response, but at this time I do not recall the wording (can post it later -- see below). What I was wondering though is if someone here can create an 80x60 image similar to the other logos found on their site for other schools. Here's the image I'm refering to: SOURCE: http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/teams/nnp There has got to be somone talented enough to get this done. Maybe then they can use it on their page, and finally get that CIRCLE/START logo off and in the dumpster. I've seen other schools on that site get their logos updated (Troy, ULM, MTSU) but for some reason, ours has gone untouched. Didn't even get a script logo on there. Thanks, I know I'd really apprecaite it. As promised...

FFR -- please clarify you comment? Yes I know I have the old logo (I hate it), but it's a direct link to the Yahoo Football images used on their site. I could change it, but am lazy, and havn't spent time trying to create one all my own. BTW... I did email Yahoo, and informed them of their outdated logo, and asked about it being updated.

WAITING GAME: North Texas' football staff was mired in a waiting game Monday. The Mean Green coaches, with all of their futures up in the air following the firing of head coach Darrell Dickey three weeks ago, figured to be on the recruiting trails by now. The contact period for high school players began Sunday. However, assistant head coach Kenny Evans said that the staff was put on hold by the UNT athletic department for recruiting, and was awaiting word on what its next step would be. "We've got coaches that are willing to go out and recruit right now," Evans said. "You've got three weeks before and two weeks after Christmas, so every day counts. There's so many ifs at this point, and nothing's been decided as far as what we're going to do." UNT's staff is under contract through the end of February. Evans said he and the staff expected to get some word on recruiting plans this week. SOURCE: http://www.theadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll.../611280334/1006

I nominate this as the ... response of the week! That was just priceless. -
that's good news... can't wait to see them at Fouts.

Could it be the loss of "Coach Cobbs"... remember his freshman year Cobbs was on the sidelines giving him tips and pointers and the like while Jamario was in doing the work. I wonder if his words of advice/wisdom are missed by Jamario these days.

Looking at MTSU last year... they did as follows: 11/21 : ... relieves Head Football Coach, Andy McCullom, of his duties effective at the end of the season. LINK 12/12 : ... names Rick Stockstill as Head Football Coach to replace McCullom in 2006. LINK ...that's a total of 21 days (3wks). I'm not saying our search will be as fast, but this might be a start for estimates, obviously I would expect (hope for) a slightly longer hunt to occur.

I think it also shows just how bad a job RF has been doing for us, and that his "in-the-booth" mentality is completely failing. I think he's up there to get away from DD on the field so that DD can't hunt 'em down and come after him like a "spider monkey". Seriously though, I t hink RF has to go... if DD can get 10-15 minutes with this group of players, and call the plays he was calling for them... then why not have him run the offense... no pun intended (with pass plays included).
