  1. SOURCE: http://cfn.scout.com/2/677105.html Sun Belt Game of the Week SMU 45 ... North Texas 31 In a wild game with the two teams combining for 954 passing yards and 1,147 yards of total offense, North Texas QB Daniel Meager threw for 601 yards and three touchdowns, with Casey Fitzgerald catching 18 passes for 327 yards and two touchdowns and Brandon Jackson catching ten passes for 133 yards and a touchdown ... in a loss. SMU's Justin Willis was unstoppable with two touchdown passes and 82 rushing yards, with a 13-yard touchdown pass to Zack Sledge breaking a 31-31 tie late in the fourth quarter. North Texas had one last shot and was driving, but Bryce Hudman picked off a Meager pass and took it 49 yards for a score. The two teams traded long, quick scoring drives all game long, with UNT getting touchdown grabs from 25 and 26 yards out from Fitzgerald, and SMU getting help from two James Mapps touchdown runs along with a one-yard DeMyron Martin dash. Sun Belt Player of the Week North Texas QB Daniel Meager completed 46 of 64 passes for 601 yards and three touchdowns with three interceptions, and Casey Fitzgerald caught 18 passes for 327 yards and two touchdown in the loss to SMU. North Texas … Big picture time. Yeah, the loss to SMU stinks, and it would've been nice to get some winning momentum, but it doesn't really matter. All that matters right now is that Todd Dodge's offense ripped off 601 passing yards and appears to be ready to take the Sun Belt by storm. There were too many penalties, some huge turnovers, and no real running game, but if the offense can really keep putting up ridiculous passing numbers, no one in the Sun Belt has a prayer of keeping pace.
  2. SOURCE: http://cfn.scout.com/2/678318.html North Texas? Daniel Meager? The Mean Green might not be very good, but the new offense, after what it did to SMU, could quickly become worthy of national attention. This, along with several other hidden storylines, the Michigan meltdown, and more in the latest Cavalcade of Whimsy. 1. The North Texas Mean Green offense North Texas had one of the nation’s most abysmal offenses over the last two years, and was brutal when it came to throwing the ball, averaging just 115 passing yards per game last season with only one game over 200 yards. In comes legendary Texas high school head coach Todd Dodge, whose spread passing attack dominated over the last several years. The offense didn’t do much in the 79-10 loss to Oklahoma to start the season, and then it went ballistic against SMU. The numbers aren’t real, even in a world with Colt Brennan. 601 passing yards from Daniel Meager. 18 catches for 327 yards and two touchdown from Casey Fitzgerald. Ten catches for 133 yards and a score from Brandon Jackson. Korey Washington, the number three receiver, caught eight passes for 70 yards. Considering no one in the Sun Belt throws the forward pass with any regularity, it’ll be interesting to note what the attack does in the opener against Florida Atlantic this week. It’ll also be interesting to see how long Dodge sticks around Denton before taking his act to brighter lights.
  3. No, she wasn't at the game, was with my father. My tix were in s225/r18/s9&10. There were two ladies in front of us who I think were great motivators in our section... always cheering, stomping, getting the crowd into the chants. In front of them were two guys wearing similar shirts, one with a RedSox cap.
  4. Who'da thought that would occur this year? This IS an exciting brand of football... Thanks T. Dodge.
  5. Nope... I have others but the camera wasn't the greatest so the shots were a bit blurred. I think I may have to get teh wife a better camera for her b-day, since I'm not sure if they'll let me bring in mine since it doubles as a video camera.
  6. bump ...added photo of the Green Brigade
  7. you must mean "sighting" btw... thanks of rthe reminder.
  8. This photo will not be available long, cause of it's size. However with all this BAND talk, I wanted to share. We looked GOOD!
  9. Yes, but they were a CUSA team for a while before jumping to the Big East. My brother went here and currently works here so I've followed them for a while. Let's not forget that FL and TX are two of the top hotbeds for football talent. Having other schools in the area... UF, FS, UM... with solid teams sort of helps cause not all the HS football grads can go to those univesities so USF is the next place they can go. Plus now that they are in teh Big EAst, that only helps their recruiting. That's just my $.02.
  10. Here are just a few of the photos I took from the game (section 225 row 18).
  11. Just curious, as I couldn't see from my vantage point. How filled was our side of the stadium? It' looked packed.... I ask because prior to the game during the festivites at tailgating... RV mentioned that we had sold out of our alottment of tickets and had to by more from SMU that they hadn't sold! The folks within earshot of him went nuts. Dr. B was next to him and also gave a hearty speach and rallied the fans. The two of them did a great job with the tailgating festivities and showing their support and ability to get involved. GMG!
  12. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/recap;_ylt=A...037&prov=ap Lightning, rain force postponement of football game at Jonesboro Preview - Box Score - Recap September 8, 2007 JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) -- Heavy rain and lightning forced postponement of the Memphis-Arkansas State football game that was scheduled Saturday evening. Kickoff for the game had been scheduled for 6 p.m., but was initially delayed as a strong thunderstorm with lightning moved through the city. About 7 p.m., officials announced the game would be delayed at least another hour. But at 8:50 p.m., almost three hours after the game should have started, the public-address announcer told the waiting -- and drenched -- fans that the game would not be played Saturday evening. Instead, he said, it would be played on Sept. 27, with kickoff again slated for 6 p.m.

  15. I'm still waiting for one available through http://www.underarmour.com/ I like how other Universities (read South Carolina) got a link on their site within weeks of the announcement, but we still have yet to see an update to their site regarding the contract signed with North Texas. Me thinks I'll be saving my $$$ for the real deal.
  16. Yes, I seem to recal a final of 71-3 or something of that nature when I started attenting NT in the early 90's, the team we played... Nebraska!

  19. SOURCE: http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/news;_ylt=Au...p&type=lgns ARTICLE: Architect of high school powerhouse to face No. 8 Oklahoma in first game as North Texas coach By JEFF LATZKE, AP Sports Writer August 31, 2007 NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- North Texas coach Todd Dodge couldn't have done much better in high school before graduating to the college ranks. For his entrance exam as a college coach, the architect of Texas high school power Southlake Carroll draws No. 8 Oklahoma -- the college football team that's won more games since World War II than any other. "That's great for him. It's hopefully going to be a great career starter," said Sooners kicker Garrett Hartley, who played for Dodge for three seasons at Carroll. "However, I do feel bad that he has to open up the season versus Oklahoma." Starting with the Sooners isn't exactly how Dodge would have scripted his college debut either. "It's an awesome task that we have going into Oklahoma, whether it's the first year you're putting in a program or you're 10th year," said Dodge, who is believed to be the first high-school coach to make the jump to Division I since 1991, when North Texas hired Dennis Parker. "When they made the schedule five years ago they didn't call and ask me my opinion on it," he said. Dodge had a remarkable run at the suburban Dallas high school, going 98-11 in seven seasons. Over the past five seasons, Dodge's Dragons went 79-1 and won four state titles. The only loss in that span came by one point against Katy in the 2003 state title game. "You look at his track record, and the success is really quite amazing -- 79 wins and only one loss in the last five years," Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said. "I don't care where you're coaching, that's doing an excellent and great, great job." Receiver Malcolm Kelly, who played in Texas' largest class, put it this way: "Southlake Carroll is the best team that Texas has ever seen." "You know he knows how to win and that's the philosophy they're going to bring to this team," Sooners cornerback Marcus Walker said. "That's the attitude they're going to have." The question is whether Dodge can bring that success to the college level. "He's got bigger and better players now, and more mature players. Whatever stage you're working at, I look at it as relative," Stoops said. "I expect they'll do an excellent job there. You don't win that much and have that much success over a period of time without communicating well with your players, motivating them and getting them to understand what you expect them to do." From Oklahoma's perspective, there is a certain amount of mystery surrounding North Texas' game plan for Saturday. The Sooners have been watching game tape of the Mean Green from last season, although there's been significant turnover among the starters. They've also been watching tape of Carroll to get an idea of what Dodge likes to do. "That to me is the rub," offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson said. "There's a bunch of guesstimation." The Sooners are prepared for a spread offense like the one Dodge ran at Carroll, but there's a little more guesswork on defense. Wilson said the Dragons would pressure the run game by placing safeties and linebackers in areas they couldn't be blocked, but that left the secondary in one-on-one coverage. "They played just a lot of man-to-man. Kind of `I've got you, you have him and you have him' kind of defense," said Kelly, who led Oklahoma with 993 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns last season. "If that's what they want to do, then we welcome that." The Sooners expect to face some of the Carroll schemes and some alterations brought on by different personnel and a higher level of football. Despite having two returning starters, the North Texas depth chart lists five freshmen and sophomores as the linemen who'll be blocking for new quarterback Daniel Meager. "Sometimes as a coach it's not high school to college what they can do, but it's do they have the players to do what they want to do?" Wilson said. "They might not this year do some things they want to do that maybe two or three years from now they're doing because the personnel fits." The Sooners also will be breaking in a new quarterback, freshman Sam Bradford. He assumes the role vacated by Paul Thompson, who led Oklahoma to the Big 12 title last season despite a rocky year that included the dismissal of starting quarterback Rhett Bomar, a controversial onside kick that resulted in defeat at Oregon and an injury to star tailback Adrian Peterson. "It's just another challenge," Kelly said. "All that stuff we overcame last year, there's nothing that we can't overcome this year."
