  4. Mean Green Game Notes (hosted on LSU website)
  5. SOURCE: http://cfn.scout.com/2/776232.html North Texas (0-2) at LSU (1-0), 8:00 EST GamePlan Why to watch: LSU has been able to beat almost everyone in its path, but it can’t beat Mother Nature. Hurricane Gustav forced last week’s game against Troy to be postponed until November, and this week’s game against North Texas was a question mark with even more bad weather on its way. Hurricane Ike is supposed to miss the battered and beaten Baton Rouge area, so instead of moving the game to a separate location, the Mean Green and Tigers will get in on Saturday night in Death Valley. UNT hasn’t been creating much of a storm so far getting blown out in the opening two games against Kansas State and Tulsa by a combined score of 101 to 32. The defense hasn’t even been close while the supposedly high-octane offense hasn’t done much. LSU is back on the field for the first time since a 41-13 pasting of Appalachian State. The team has had far more to deal with than just football, but with Auburn coming up next week, there can’t be any lack of focus now. Why North Texas might win: The Mean Green might have more of a distraction than LSU considering Ike is supposed to hit Texas, but considering the damage and the clean up the Tigers have had to deal with, football hasn’t been priority one. The Mean Green offense has to start bombing away like it did at times last season, while the defense has to hold up for a drive or two early on to keep this from being over in the first quarter. Why LSU might win: Tulsa’s David Johnson threw for 420 yards and six touchdowns, while Kansas State’s quarterbacks combined to throw for 306 yards and three scores. The LSU combination of Jarrett Lee and Andrew Hatch threw for 193 yards and four touchdowns against Appalachian State, and they should be able to take advantage of a UNT that’ll have to concentrate on stopping the run. Who to watch: Giovanni Vizza is still the North Texas starting quarterback … for now. The sophomore hasn’t thrown an interception yet and has been fine, throwing for 347 yards and three touchdowns in two games, but he hasn’t been lights out. Star recruit Riley Dodge, head coach Todd Dodge’s son, will be used a bit as a receiver, but it could be just a matter of time before there’s a quarterback switch if Vizza isn’t getting the job done. What will happen: LSU won’t have any interest in doing anything other than getting this over with as soon as possible. CFN Prediction: LSU 50 … North Texas 3 ... Line: LSU -41 Must See Rating: (5 Hole in the Wall - 1 First Blood) … 1.5
  6. I'll second those thoughts, but this has happened in the past: Oct. 13, 2007, the blog was handled by Jeff Andrews during coverage of the ULM/UNT game. The reference was initiated there, and later he had made a backhanded apology prior to coverage in the blog during the WKU/UNT game a month later. The apology asked for forgiveness and stated it was unprofessional and that he had felt guilt for making it. Now the same blogger, nearly a year later makes the same comments. Another apology won't cut it in my book, but rather a statement in a paper would be bet this time around.
  7. SOURCE: http://cfn.scout.com/2/769936.html Tulsa (1-0) at North Texas (0-1), 7:00 EST Why to watch: At least for one game, it appears there’ll be life after record-smashing QB Paul Smith in Tulsa. After a slow start, the Golden Hurricane rolled to a 45-22 win over UAB behind three Paul Johnson touchdown passes. The senior was flawless, making good use of his myriad weapons and throwing just four incompletions. With a league game already in the win column, Tulsa will be favored remain unbeaten until the schedule stiffens in late October. In many ways, North Texas would like to be where Tulsa is, a dangerous mid-major with a point-a-minute offense. Neither will come to fruition anytime soon, as evidenced by last weekend’s 45-6 flogging at the hands of Kansas State. It’s only Todd Dodge’s second season in Denton, but he needs to start showing some progress with the Mean Green. Why Tulsa might win: It’s going to be a while before someone can slow down the Hurricane offense. The attack was as efficient as ever, generating 360 yards through the air and 240 yards on the ground in the win over the Blazers. Johnson was terrific in the game, getting the ball in the hands of his playmakers, like WR Brennan Marion and FB Charles Clay. The Mean Green doesn’t have nearly enough talent on defense to keep this juggernaut under 50. Why North Texas might win: If the Mean Green has any chance of authoring an upset, it’ll have to expose a Tulsa defense that’s flush with new starters and coming off a shaky effort. The Hurricane yielded 414 yards and 21 first downs to the usually quiet UAB offense. While the North Texas offense is hardly a sure thing, it will attack through the air with an inventive passing game and prolific WR Casey Fitzgerald. Who to watch: In just 15 career games, Clay has already become one of the most dangerous offensive weapons in Conference USA. Labeled a fullback, he’s more of an H-back, who’s big enough to run over defenders and quick enough to jet past them. With so much attention being given to the backs and receivers, he’s a nightmare for linebackers in one-on-one coverage. What will happen: The Tulsa train will continue down the tracks, steamrolling a North Texas program that’s laboring badly on both sides of the ball. Behind another 500-yard day from the offense, the Hurricane won’t be tested past halftime. CFN Prediction: Tulsa 51 ... North Texas 21 ... Line: Tulsa -21 Must See Rating: (5 Entourage premiere - 1 One Tree Hill premiere) … 2

  11. I thought the same thing... why run away from this but in the same direction the storm is traveling. They should go to the north and east to have the best change of not having to go through it at all. Clear skies are certainly better than rain clouds over head.
  12. I can try to confirm on Tues. a co-worker went to UT and the game this weekend. I'll see what he says.
  13. That's great news for the SBC, another great start to the year... beating a Big XII school. Congrats to Arkansas State... making the SBC look good in week 1.

  15. A pair of season tickets, to show how much the team means to you and to let her know you're not entirely wasting your time by frequenting this board (you'll be keeping up with the latest news and info about the team), and verifying it's accuracy by attending the games. I know a stretch, but it might work.

  19. Not sure if this has already been posted, so forgive me if it's been asked already. Are we going to have another seating chart map made up? I believe KingDL created one last year based on the seat location of those of us on the message board. I thought this was a great way to meet new folks or at least put a face to a name. I'd like to see this continued, thoughts?
