  1. I respect y'all sentiments about the unfairness of the system, but clearly none of you are really aware of the money involved. SMU has some crazy billionaires. But those couple big spenders are necessary because they have few alumni. With proper organization and motivation, UNT COULD definitely be in the #25-#50 spend range no question. Totally doable. Not top 10.... but guess what: those teams already had a huge payroll. NIL just makes it above the table and more democratic. UNT's athletic department and university administration is not totally bought in. I wouldn't give them NIL money either. They aren't in it to win. But if they change their mind, you'll find more NIL available. The donors at SMU are spending because the school is now in it to win. If we had the university governance we did in 2005, they wouldn't be spending, I assure you.
  2. The portal is not the problem. Baylor was laying down MASSIVE NIL in the last two football open portals. They have money to retain at least part of their team. You don't have your team gutted like that without bigger cultural or programmatic problems. Not the portal's fault. Actually good those players were able to escape. The portal, for lack of a better word, is good. The portal is right, the portal works. The portal clarifies, cuts through and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. The portal in all of its forms. The portal for momma, money, playing time, girls, has marked the upward surge of mid-majors, and the portal – you mark my words – could not only save UNT, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the NCAA.
  3. I get the overall intent and I'm on board with making it more sane and fair..... ....but wow the details are phenomenally bad. 1. It's unconstitutional without collective bargaining for both athletes and coaches and does nothing to deal with it. 2. Coach salary cap at 10X tuition.....great for SMU and private schools! 3. Conference restricted by timezone - totally "rebuild PAC" oriented. But are we really saying Alabama makes more sense for travel in a conference with Minnesota than Georgia? This could easily about distance.
  4. SMU was already designated the official college football team of the parade this year. Peruna (horse, not costume) is leading the parade in the family friendly section
  5. We don't use our endowment for sports either
  6. So.eone up above posted PAC is aiming at $10M/school media value. You think Texas State is worth $10M? I can't see it.
  7. Yeah, but who adds to the revenue as opposed to dilutes it? Nobody. Even if AAC teams were additive....what's the buyout for AAC teams?
  8. Nobody who hasn't already turned them down is additive. They are screwed. Stunning incompetence
  9. It's GO TIME! Cash Money Mustangs ready to go! $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Has UNT made a statement on going in-house yet? https://x.com/RossDellenger/status/1889682155703320721?ref_src=twsrc^tfw|twcamp^tweetembed|twterm^1889682155703320721|twgr^|twcon^s1_c10&ref_url=
  10. If you're in the market for a new AD Rick Hart just got pushed out at SMU. Finally.
  11. No way until Title IX is sorted out
  12. SEC is just mad their refined under the table system is no longer a competitive advantage.
  13. Come on guys. "Essentially Sports" is a tabloid. How does this make ANY sense? Florida State can't leave even with a flurry of lawsuits. How will UNC leave? UNC has sucked at football and drawn no ratings forever. Why would SEC want them? What does it even mean to "bait" Belicheck? Do you think a coach that hasn't coached a game yet can decide conference affiliation, OR that you'd have to bait anyone to join the SEC? Also, ESPN just extended the ACC contract. https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/43623233/sources-espn-ok-option-televise-acc-sports-36

  15. Sorry, I'll have to respond in detail in a few weeks. I'm a little busy counting our ancillary non-tier I media revenue that still far exceeds our total AAC revenue, and planning where to park for our multiple sellouts, and best fent-free nose candy source for our likely homecoming game vs Miami.
