  1. I can't see the AAC fulfilling our bowl obligations as it is. The conference current has 9 programs with losing records. But given the choice, I'd much rather North Texas play in the Independence Bowl than endure another trip to Frisco or the First Responders at SMU.
  2. 44 points should have been enough to beat Memphis. Our defense just isn't as talented or tough as Memphis' defense.
  3. 82K is pathetic. Those are ESPNU numbers. This is why I said we should have run a commercial in DFW all week leading up to the game. We can't build our brand if no one tunes in to see us play.
  4. Morris needs to burn a timeout before our second defensive series.... so Caponi can go ahead and make the halftime adjustments early. Strategy.
  5. I get that it would be expensive, but we have never been in a position to promote our football team as the most explosive in the entire FBS, and we may never be in this position again. We don't have to wait a decade for students to graduate and fill the home side. Damn the cost. We need publicity in DFW and among our alums and community, more than we need to save $500K. Make it a two week run and promote the Memphis game too. Maybe we see a major spike in attendance when we return to DATCU. We'll never know if we don't try.
  6. Production costs will be minimal because we can create the commercial in house. Air time is expensive, but we can target certain times (5 & 10 o'clock news), instead of all day long. That should reduced the cost some. The cost may still be high, but the cost of continuing our current plan will be falling further behind. UTSA, Texas State, and now SHSU are all gaining more relevancy as we make excuses for not marketing our athletics.
  7. We are not Rice. We have a huge alumni base that has forgotten about their alma mater. Our issue with attendance and TV viewership should be a quick fix if we are smart. Why do I say this? Because at this moment, UNT football actually has a product to sell that the DFW community and our disenfranchised alumni base will get behind. So here is the plan... Get our athletic department media team to create a commercial promoting the game at FAU and have it run on the local stations all next week. Our game got picked up for ESPN2 in primetime on Saturday. The commercial needs to include imagery of some of the local communities... Signs and water towers type stuff (Denton, Dallas, Fort Worth, and some of the smaller towns too). Highlight our offense stats, and include our most explosive plays this season. Make sure everyone in DFW knows we have the most explosive offense in all of college football. We also need to get the commercial out on X, and have our celebrity alumni retweet it to their fans. It will cost some money, but it can only increase our viewership, which would make it worth the expense. If it works, do the same thing for our Memphis game, should it also get picked up for broadcast Or we can just sit around and keep doing what has yet to work.
  8. I don't care who mandated the change in defense, but I'm glad it was finally done. This team is better for it, and is quickly moving up in perception. I believe the defense will only get stronger as they become more comfortable. Proud of the effort and results from Saturday against Tulsa.
  9. If we don't go back to Caponi's defense... Tulsa 13 North Texas 52 If we do return to Caponi's defense.... Tulsa 34 North Texas 38
  10. The PA is so loud it drowns out everything. The band can't even be heard. At the Wyoming game the student section tried to get the "North" "Texas" chant started, but the PA killed it. 27,000 fans (okay, maybe 24,000) didn't get to enjoy the full game experience. When are fans have the opportunity to get loud they can get very loud. See "the Stand" against Rice. Or the North Texas chant against UTEP. We need that level of fan engagement at our games, not an overly loud PA.
  11. Big crowd and a good win. The defense looked impressive in the second half. Can't wait for Tulsa next week.
  12. What is the board's opinion about where North Texas stands in this round? Just wondering what y'all are thinking.
  13. I see a North Texas win tomorrow. Wyoming 28 North Texas 34
  14. This rebuilt PAC will be the strongest and most valuable G conference, which in turns will lead to earning the 5th auto-bids most years and enhanced media exposure. North Texas would be stupid not to join if offered. Just think of what the AAC will become once they lose the programs and markets the PAC is targeting.
  15. I've spent most of the afternoon trying to find a positive from today's embarrassment, but can't. Why do our boys always sh!t the bed. And I'm not just calling out the players. This is a systemic problem with our athletic department. Texas State lost this week too, but at least they were in their game until the end, and they beat the crap out of UTSA this season too. He could be our coach right now. Think about that for just a minute.
  16. I actually own one of those hunter green 2004 helmets.
  17. I love the Stone Cold celebration. They should play it live on the video board with Austin's theme music playing in the background. Then after it's finished cut to a recorded video of Stone Cold in a Mean Green jersey saying, "Open a can Mean Green!"
  18. I love the idea of bringing the worm back. I'm not a huge fan of the winged helmets. They look too much like Oregon. But, I'm against returning to NTSU. The more letters in your abbreviation, the more small time you look. Remember the SCLSU Mud Dogs?
  19. Not the way I expected to win, but with all the transfer players from TCU, OK State, and Baylor, I suspect SFA is a much better FCS team than most. 2-0 is still 2-0. And Texas Tech didn't do anything in their loss that makes me think we can't compete with them next Saturday, if we can get a little healthier.
  20. I like that we are back to a traditional look.
  21. SFA 27 North Texas 63 Morris and the WRs carve up their FCS defense... Mostly in the first half. And with a few returning secondary players, our defense plays better, only giving up a few big play TDs.
  22. It's nice to start the season with a "W" on the road. The passing game looks down right insane. The running game was respectable, but could be better. Defense was much better in the second half. And I have hope that with the return of starters in the secondary, we might see even more improvement in the coming games. Also, I watched Texas Tech and Wyoming Saturday night, and both look very beatable.
  23. The whole production sucks. Bad camera work. Too often the action isn't even in the frame.
  24. It's very discouraging that our defense is still trash. It's even worse when I think that we also have 3 defenders out today due to recently being incarcerated. I don't see that side of the ball getting any better during halftime, so the offense needs to be near perfect in the second half or we will lose this game.
  25. I'm not drinking the green Kool Aid this season, but I do have a good feeling about this game. We'll find out soon if we won the "Portal Lottery".
