Basically, if you think .500 after 6 seasons is good enough to coach at UNT, you are Old Denton. If you believe zero conference championship, zero bowl wins, and a .500 record after 6 seasons isn't good enough to keep you happy, and you want change... you are New Denton. It's not about age or even how many years you've been a fan. It is about standards. McCasland is New Denton.

Couldn't agree more. It was a perfect storm for UNT to pick up that win (no pun intended). We played FIU the week before in a rainstorm at Miami. UTSA is a dome team and wasn't prepared for the conditions. The pressure of being undefeated was getting to them, and our players and crowd were pumped. Everything snowballed against UTSA that day, and they quit by halftime. In my opinion, it was the only quality win we had this season.

We beat 5 FBS teams this season. Only one of those teams was good. That's just the facts. UTEP was not a good win. UTEP got into a bowl but did it by only beating the bums on their schedule (New Mexico State 2-10, New Mexico 3-9, ODU 6-6, Southern Miss 3-9, LA Tech 3-9, & Rice 4-8). UTEP didn't beat a single team with a winning record this season. I look at the quality of the wins and losses. I can't help it if that isn't favorable to us. The facts justify my point. Had we beaten UAB by 30, we'd be a much better team with a much better record. I'd be off Littrell's back, and we wouldn't need to have this discussion. Unfortunately, Seth hasn't done his job and the data proves it.

I disagree. The bowl won't really tell us anything. Miami OH is almost just like us... a 6-6- team with only one win over a team with a winning record. The only difference is that the good team they beat wasn't as good as UTSA, and the bowl is basically a home game for us. It's a perfect situation for Littrell to FINALLY win a bowl. A good 6th year G5 coach making $2 million a year doesn't need the stars to align just to have a shot at winning a bowl game.... and we're still a 3 point dog. There is no bowl outcome that would merit another season under Littrell.

There is no previous version of Littrell. He is what he is. One win over UTSA at Apogee in the pouring rain doesn't mean he has finally figured out anything. And I'm not interested in punishing anyone. I just want a better coach at UNT. I'm sick and tired of watching our team under preform year after year. Littrell has had his chance. .500 isn't good enough. I'm ready to build for the American. The bigger risk is hanging on to Littrell in hopes that he has figured out how to be a better coach. We can't afford to throw away another season under Seth.

Wow. 6-6 and it's his finest year. That alone should tell you he isn't the right coach. He loses to good teams and beats bad teams, most of the time. Sure we have the UTSA win, but that is the only quality win Littrell has picked up in several years.

I know it's really sad to see so many happily continue to back mediocrity. This Old Denton mentality is the reason why UNT remains a sleeping giant in football. What makes it even more astonishing is that the Mean Green fan base can see a real coach just across the street at the Super Pit. McCasland is building UNT a monster of a basketball program, but the same fans can't or won't see that Littrell isn't made from the same metal. Vito has to see the difference, right?

Littrell has not earned next year. Some of you have very low expectations around here for a 6th year coach. After 6 seasons Littrell is a .500 coach. Only at UNT is that considered deserving of another season. Marshall had the reigning C-USA coach of the year and they canned his butt. Old Denton needs to expect more. I know I expect more.

Wow... I hope Vito is just speculating about Littrell's future. I really don't want to think about this fight until after our bowl game Thursday. I'll just say Littrell isn't good enough to successfully lead UNT into the American, and anyone that is being honest with themself knows it. I hope our administration makes the right move and we can finally build a winner that contends for conference titles. Old Denton can begin down-voting my post now. Ha!

Make no mistake, the players we recruit in this class will be playing against an American schedule in the near future. Some of you may not think this is fair, but I will be comparing this class against the other 5 C-USA programs that are moving with us, and the remaining members of the AAC. A move up in conference must be matched with a move up in talent and expectations. It is our coach's job to insure that we are bringing in quality recruits that can win in the AAC. I hope we don't get disappointed with the results when this recruiting class is finally full.

I applaud your commitment. Maybe Wren should get you to lead the team onto the field for the game. In your hospital gown and carrying the battle flag if possible. I sure ESPN's commentators would enjoy the topic and you might get a helmet stick on College Gameday Final. On a side note... I hope your surgery goes well. 🙂

Who is sponsoring this bowl game? Ryan? If so, is he going to keep it, since it's called a classic? If it is Ryan, I hope the bowl moves to Apogee next season and they change the name to the Ryan Denton Bowl or something like that. Maybe this is where his C-USA sponsorship money will be going since we're moving to the American.
-
Totally out of context. I clearly stated that I was done supporting Littrell as our coach and I want him gone. Nothing about that has changed despite picking up a few wins over bums. I never implied I was leaving the fan base with my ball. After the bowl game, Wren needs to make the right move and bring in a coach that can lead us into the American. We are a family, and like all families we have are differences.

I don't know Rick. But when I see a guy with 2 post telling me "you're done and new fans await", it sounds like a new fan. I'm glad Rick cares about the program too, and I appreciate his commitment to UNT. We just have different views on the best path forward. I don't discourage opinions and would never encourage any of our fans to leave. We need all the support we can get.

I disagree. I don't think Seth has done nearly enough to retain his job. Sure winning the last five games was great, but it doesn't negate the years of underpreforming and struggled against good programs. Too many people around here just want to focus on the last 5 games and avoid the results of the 2019 and 2020 season. Too many don't want to face the truth about our 2018, 9 win season either. And, too many don't want to look at all 4 bowl beat downs under Seth's leadership. Enough is enough. After last season fans on this board said he would be gone if he underpreformed in '21. Well, 6-6 is underpreforming. With the exception of UTSA, all we beat this season was bums. It is time for a change. The level of competition will go up in the American, and over 6 seasons Littrell is a .500 coach in C-USA. Nothing about that level of mediocrity merits Seth being allowed to stay in charge as we prepare for the most important move in the history of our athletic department. Again, I too would prefer to discuss this after we play our bowl game. On that we can agree.
