Plus, it was in the middle of a very bad flu and virus season. Lots of sick people around the middle of December.

They can officially say what they want, but I follow our performance against the spread and how we move in the net rankings, and my observations stand. Win or lose, when we beat the spread our ranking improves. When we fail to cover the spread we have fallen.
-
Last night we failed to cover the 15.5 point spread. A 15 point win should be a great thing, but not in the eyes of the NET. That .5, cost us 4 spots in the most important ranking for earning at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament. It's seems to be a fairly simple formula. When we beat the spread, we move up or hold our ranking. When we fail to beat the spread, we drop.

I think we see variations of the Leach system all around college football. I think the best versions are still adaptable enough to put their offense in a Power I and fight for a yard. Also, a lot of the failures of the Leach system come from undervaluing the importance of defense. Morris spoke in his introductory press conference about his adaptability, and even taking plays from high school systems. So, he's willing to adapt his system to improve on the results. That is a good sign. I think Caponi's defense will be rooted in 21 century schemes, so I'm hopeful for next season. Not saying I think we will win the AAC, but if we can post a 6-6 record in year one under a new coach, that would be a win in my book.

I'll try to update this throughout conference play. (Teams leaving for the AAC in BOLD) Jan. 1, 2023 10. FAU 54. UNT 59. UAB 74. Charlotte 112. MTSU 142. Rice 164. LA Tech 193. UTEP 204. WKU 291. FIU 316. UTSA

That's a solid schedule. I love all the series with P5 programs. But, I do wish OU would have been on the schedule this season. I feel like DeLong has the girls are ready to make an appearance in the Top 25.

Breaking: North Texas to Hire Jon Cooper as OL Coach
Side.Show.Joe replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
I like this hire. Guy has solid experience, and his most recent job was at OU, a team that always features a strong O-line play. -
Yes! It's absolutely mind-boggling that some people are actually downvoting comments that are critical this obviously bad messaging by our university. I'd love to know their logic for defending this debacle.

Breaking: North Texas Hires Gary as DL Coach

I can respect that. We are both going to hope for this best. -
Breaking: North Texas Hires Gary as DL Coach

Okay. He has one year as a high school coach. That doesn't ease my mind. I have no problem with him getting a chance at being a college coach, but that is what the FCS jobs are for. I believe we needed a D-line coach with some skins on the wall at some level of college football. But since the hire has been made, I just have to hope this Houston GA pans out. -

Disagree with me about the hire if you want, but there is no record of his ability. Being a GA at a couple of programs isn't enough of a resume. -

Bennett's son-in-law was a bad hire too. -
Breaking: North Texas Hires Gary as DL Coach

Until Gary proves he can handle this job, I view this as a bad hire. The D-line job is too important to place in the hands of a guy that has never held an actual coaching position at any level. There had to be better options.- 60 replies

Gilbert and Owens Effect in Recruiting
Side.Show.Joe replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
Would a QB named Sanders be on that list? -
But his defense got their ass kicked last night. Texas Tech put 42 points on Ole Miss, and his D-line gave up 242 yards rushing. I don't want that at UNT either. We need successful experienced coaches in charge of our lines. We should be able to poach an actual D-line coach from one of the successful Sun Belt, C-USA, or MAC programs. A GA from Houston should not even be an option.

DRC: FAU charges back from late deficit to stun UNT
Side.Show.Joe replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
"DRC: FAU charges back from late deficit to stun UNT" is the wrong title for this article. It should read... "DRC: Everyone but Perry and Ousmane Played Like Crap, So UNT Lost". -
I have always been of the opinion that the lines are the heart of every team. As the offensive and defensive lines go, so goes the team. These positions need to go to talented proven coaches, not upstart GA's from other G5 programs. If Gary is the actual hire for the D-line position, then I officially have a problem with where this defensive coaching staff is headed. It's irresponsible to let unproven guys handle either of these position groups, and Morris and Caponi should know better.

I think it makes UNT look like some kind of daycare. It clearly states we are a Tier 1 university, but then follows that by pimping how great our food is. This POS looks like some kind of community college ad. No insight into the quality of our programs, or how UNT develops the leaders of tomorrow. No comment on learning. It's just playtime at UNT. Absolutely terrible.

Only the last paragraph in your post matters, and it is spot on. Mac has to get more out of every player not named Perry or Ousmane. FAU only scored 50 points. Regardless of the refs, this is a game we should have won. Time for some of those role players to grow up and contribute when they step onto the court in the big games.
-
I don't mind our slow defensive style. I mind how most of our players missed everything they shot. Even with the refs on our case all night, if anyone else in a Mean Green jersey would have hit a few shots, UNT would have won this game.
-
The offense is inept because 3 for the players on the court don't hit their shots. Perry and Ousmane can't produce all of the points.
