They are giving our starters a hard run in practice every day. You don’t want your practice squad full of intramural players…you want them to be thinking they are on the cusp of playing time. If they leave early, that opens a slot for another experienced transfer.
-
He said he was going to play after the game Thursday. I heard it directly from his mouth. Also, Ross told Hank explicitly that he would play against Temple…said he would get a hard practice in Friday and be ready for game day on Sunday. Did something go bad in the practice?

Maybe its about a pipeline. Other teams are out there developing our players. We develop some kids and if they stick around, they may play when their time comes. Or, they may learn that "what I did at NT wasn't enough and I need to get my butt in gear if I wanna play over there at the new school". We need quality practice players for our starters to match up with...so its more than just about the playing time. Its about a TEAM! It's about FAMILY! Its about being a part of something bigger than self. I think Ross and staff are very honest with the HS kids they bring in. They tell them that they shouldn't expect to play unless they can compete with Jr.s and Sr.s. Most cant.

AAC sets minimum standard of NIL benefits required
2020 Sucks replied to Tommy Gadberry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Excellent! Hope to see UNT do even more! I'm sure this type of move will come down to nearly every conference due to the HOUSE case. But for now, the recruits need to take notice! The AAC is serious about athletics! -
The Grant McCasland coaching tree sprouts a new branch! I bet he has them turned around in record time. He was instrumental in recruiting MANY of the top tier kids that left their mark on UNT during Grant's time here.

Same thing happened when we lost to UTEP a few years back. We were definitely well into the conversation even though CUSA had not really ever been considered for 2 bids. We go lose that game the last week of February out in El Paso by 2 and all hopes are gone.

Wright Scores 42 In Senior Day Win
2020 Sucks replied to meangreenfaninno's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Atin's 8 minute run where he scored about 20 of his 42 was epic! The confidence was incredible and it was a beautiful thing to see him just having fun and igniting the crowd. What I still hate to see is the 8 minute scoring drought from the 15:00 mark until the 7:00 mark in the first half. We did a lot of great things last night like not turning the ball over unnecessarrily. However, we didn't score inside, we got out rebounded, and we put them on the line too many times with bad defensive position and some crappy calls by the refs (those went both ways and they could have called more on us that they didn't). The trip to Philly will be a good tune up for the tournament. Temple is a quality opponent and road wins are tough. I'd love to see nothing more than us get a win and get back to Denton for some rest before Thursday night. I'd like to see Massie get back in rhythm with the team in the Temple game. He's been practicing, but game speed is a better test. -
Jasper Floyd can play one more season if he wants to (do it here). He gained a year of eligibility due to the JUCO rule that was recently passed.

Vegas has us at -14.5 tonight. I think we win by 20. Final Score Predicition...72-52. One other thing...B-Lo won't be introduced or honored tonight as a Sr. But Ya'll better have the "One More Year" chants loaded and ready!!! I want him to dream about that in his sleep for the next month!

I've dropped FB season tix but upgraded my basketball seats. The massive turnover in FB is a big turn off for me...I totally understand kids like TP, Aaron Scott, Rubin Jones, and Jason Edwards leaving here to go to P5 schools, but I can't get behind kids who are impact players here in football leaving for SFA, Tarelton, or ACU. And I can't get with true freshment bailing out without putting in the work to try and EARN some playing time. Plus...lets be honest...football at UNT just has no energy because they've gone .500 nearly every year for decades. These 3pm kickoffs in 105 heat index...or 40 degree wind chills turn me into an ESPN+ fan! Seth caught a little lightning in a bottle with a couple of 9+ win seasons, but that was right before the transfer portal went nuts and created chaos. I seriously dont think its attainable in this new era without a consistent annual $4-5 million NIL package like that school in Highland Park...and that seems nearly impossible here unless the MGSF rolls more into a NIL payout system. UNT Basketball has been consistent, fun, and its awesome how the players engage with the fans. Autographs and high fives after every game, going out into the community and working with kids, and even engaging on Social Media. Its refreshing. Burton and Hodge are great leaders and great men. They both love Denton and I think that as long as the compensation is good...they will both stay here for a long time.

We won't have any UNT teams playing the first round. Both teams are already in the quarter-finals. Not sure I wanna go watch ECU vs nUTSAk.
-
How do you figure? They are good and our guys know it’s gonna take all of the energy and effort they have to leave Fla 2-0. The UTSA loss was a trap game!

I know we all wanted Stone to be the next DJ Draper. He was highly touted out of HS with two rings. The fact that he didn't score much when he was getting more minutes doesn't bother me. I'm a big fan of UNT basketball and our scheme. If you cannot see Stone's impact on the defensive side of the ball, you just simply don't understand what we do. Stone is an impact player and the fact that he is the winningest Eagle of all time might not show up on the stat sheet--but he gets a lot of credit for those wins by what he does on a daily basis. I've heard what Ross Hodge says about him, and I think its great that he's the last true kid to come in here and be committed to us. He's a unicorn...and those are magnificent and amazing. He may be the last one ever to wear our jersey this perfectly.

The best HS kids are gonna go to the blue blood programs. With JUCO no longer counting, I'd say that Ross needs to focus on 2nd year JUCO kids that play for winning programs, and getting kids like Jossel who are bouncing back from KU. He could absolutley get kids that are bouncing back from Tech that Grant can't use. I don't think we will see another HS kid make the starting 5 in this gym anytime in the forseeable future unless there are changes at the NCAA level.

That was 5 years ago!

Why would Ross Hodge EVER recruit or sign another kid out of HS in this current NCAA environment? Discuss…

This football program is trash…has been for forever. We just completely suck. Our coaches suck, our players are mid level, and any player who excels transfers if they can get out without a career ending injury due to the linemen who suck. You can find free tickets everywhere and sit on the 50 any game. We bring in new players and coaches every 6 hours, then rinse and repeat the suckage. Our band is good!

Is this the best team UNT has ever had?
2020 Sucks replied to meangreenfaninno's topic in Mean Green Football
We had less than 10 rushing yards at halftime vs Tulsa. This team has potential…but 75+\- new players on the team and the inconsistency from the OL makes me say no at this point. -
If they develop, they’ll just transfer. If they sit, they will transfer. If they start and lead the league, they will transfer. To look at next years qb, you need to find a 4th stringer at Texas Tech or a starter at Tarelton!

Havent had a basketball or football ticket checked since the plandemic in any sport. The tickets are all electronic now for FB and BB. The only physical "tickets" are the lanyards for club members and high rollers.

Calling This Before I Can Say "I Told You So"
2020 Sucks replied to rojomojo's topic in Mean Green Basketball
This years team will have the most talent we’ve seen in Denton in 20 years. Tylor Perry is replaceable. This team will be able to go down the bench and find players #6-10 with every bit as much talent as the starters. The OP is way off here. UNT is a basketball school!
