Coach Mac compared Huntsberry to Javion but said he is a better outside shooter. Sign me up for that! Can't wait to see how this team develops as the year goes on. I think they will definitely have some growing pains early, as the new guys get used to the system, but I think we will be peaking about the time conference play starts. Go Mean Green!

This is a pretty good take on us. 7. North Texas Mean Green 2021-22 record: 25-7 (16-2 in Conference USA) They don’t get the same national press as a Virginia, San Diego State, Baylor, or even Saint Mary’s, but North Texas under head coach Grant McCasland is just as good on the defensive end as any NCAA Basketball program. In fact, they were the No. 1 scoring team defensively last season at 55.1 ppg and that should roll over once again to the 2022-23 campaign. They’ll have to do it without two key starters in guard Mardrez McBride and forward and all-conference defender, Thomas Bell. But they return Tylor Perry, who actually led the Mean Green in scoring at 13.5 ppg coming off the bench. He was easily named Conference USA 6th Man of the Year and with McBride and JJ Murray gone, should step into the lineup and lead the way. Rubin Jones, JUCO transfer Kai Huntsberry, and North Dakota State transfer and sharpshooter Tyree Eady add to the overall depth in the backcourt. In the frontcourt, look for returning starting big man Abou Ousmane to become even more of a focal point. As a sophomore, the 6’10 and 250-pound big produced 10.2 ppg and 5.9 rpg in a breakout year and is a quality interior defender. Dayton transfer Moulaye Sissoko adds more size inside and he’ll have an impact at the CUSA level as well. Look for New Hampshire transfer Jayden Martinez (14.9 ppg and 5.5 rpg) to be the x-factor on offense. He’s a 6’7 combo forward and shot over 40% from deep and could be the leading scorer on this roster as well. North Texas will remain elite defensively and as long as Martinez makes the transition, will have enough offense to win most of its games once again.

North Texas 2022 Bowl Projection: New Mexico Bowl
Shark 64 replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
If we are 6-6 or 7-5, I'll watch on TV. Been burned to many times the last few years. San Diego State doesn't interest me at all. Maybe if we played a regional team it might help.- 11 replies

Has any information leaked out about possible teams we may be scrimmaging? I know we have played Arkansas, Oklahoma, Tech in past years. Grant always does a great job having his guys ready to start the season.

I remember when some fraternity threw the Sig Ep sign in the pool! I think it cracked the bottom.

Can someone start a countdown clock for the first basketball game? Can't get here soon enough. -

Looks like another year of boring non-conference opponents at home. I know it's probably hard to get good schools to come play here because of our recent success but is Omaha the best we can do? Grant's teams will always be road tested for conference! Go Mean Green! -
Looks like he already took his "free" transfer. I'm assuming he would have to sit out a year.

What is he now about 30? Guy played for San Francisco then UTEP over the past decade.

5:30 Thursday night
-
The 5:30 start for the guys on Thursday night sucks! A lot of people can't get off work early to attend, especially if they are planning on taking off a whole day for Friday's 11:30 game. Typical conference usa crap.

I'm hoping that we don't come out to hyped up by the first big home crowd and try to do to much. Weather the storm the first 10 minutes and settle into playing our game. La Tech will come out firing. Should be a great game. Can't wait. Go Mean Green!

Question for those with BBall Knowledge
Shark 64 replied to Glory to the Green's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Watch how they talk on defense and are able to guard by moving their feet and not reaching. -
If he develops as much as Abou did this year...look out!
-
We will have a group of about 8 at Eastside Saturday to watch the game. Those in the Denton area come join us.
-
The game is a must win for UAB if they want any chance at the #1 seed so I expect we will get their best punch. Hopefully we can hang around in the first half and steal one at the end. This will be a tall task. A win and we would have a 3 game lead on both La Tech and UAB with 4 to play. Go Mean Green!
-
Teams usually fly in the day before so UTEP may already be here before the ice/snow is expected.
-
And played all 40 minutes! Rest up for Saturday guys.
-
I hope everyone who is posting on this board will make it a point to attend the rest of our home basketball games.

If anyone else joins the rotation this week, I think it will be one of the transfer guards.
-
Can't over look anyone in conference on the road. Looking ahead to La Tech Saturday will get you beat Thursday.

La Tech had won 18 in a row at home before losing to UAB Saturday. I think we were the last team to beat them at home before that.
