UNT vs Temple In Game Discussion****
Meangreen Fight replied to jtm0097's topic in Mean Green Football
It isn't a good base defense. It was a gimmick that had a run when spread offenses first started going crazy. You need an especially talented joker position player and 3 good down lineman to run it as base. But a solid d-line is the foundation of any good defense so there is nothing special about it but the talent running it. And if an offense is committed to the run and decent at it you can force a team out of the 3-3-5. -
UNT vs Temple In Game Discussion****

And not watching because of it. Meaningless game unless we have a Portland State like failure in it. That and I don't want ESPN+. I will use this thread to get updates. Thi Oh, this just in. 14 Year Old Program UTSA just did the apparently impossible scored a TD on Army. 🤷🏽♂️ -
So throw money at the program in some vague poorly defined way with low expectations or none at all? Gotcha hit6# 🤣
-
We must be trying to grow geriatric research at our medical school. If that is the case I am all for it might as well win off the field. 🤷🏽♂️ 🤣
-
I find this thread comical. A program that wouldn't even pursuit Sanders as he was getting ready to leave Jackson State. They held on to Littrell could actually win something in year 7 is going to kick out Coach ELF and his flashy offense after year 2? 🤣. You can't give tickets away because it is so poorly managed and underperforming. If I were tasked with actually sabatoging the program in a covert manner I couldn't do it better. I wouldn't think I would get away with hiring a coach with no college experience as my head coach and retaining another coach for 7 years with nothing to show for it. Hell why aim low, let's go get Jason Garrett. He has NFL experience. 🤣🤣🤣

Anyone else still rooting for Eric Morris?

That is comical. 🤣 The only thing that makes things move in a capitalist soceity is money. And our Football program doesn't generate it. I refuse to continue to waste my time with a core fanbase that seems not to understand that. A fanbase that 💩on even the idea of pursuing a transcendent force with a home and other local tie in the North Texas region like Coach Sanders. UC Boulder General Budget 2022: 1.04 Billion UNT Denton 2022 Budget: 365 milliom Colorado Student Enrollment: 37k North Texas: 47 k Karl Dorrell's contract (Sander's predecessor) 3.6 million Seth Littrell's & EM's 2023 Pay: 2.9 million Now with detailed corrections can you see how proper management of Seth's contract(s) could have put us in a position to at least talk to Sanders? This program with projected improvement could offer a base salary 4 million. There is no excuse for a program in a perfect position to reap the most benefit from Sanders jumping up from FCS to FBS for not pursuing Sanders PUBLICLY. Retaining Seth Littrell in the foolish misguided hope that he would go beyond 0.500 vs FBS competition in year 6 was a low aspirational budget conscious decision. It communicated to me this program doesn't care to sell more tickets nor win. Only when have ridiculous nationally embarrassing outing does this program respond with minimal conventional competency, making staffing moves. We wouldn't be debating this level of idiocy any fanboard for a respectable program. Who brings back the WORST DC in all of FBS for year 2 and NOT fire the head coach who wanted to give him another chance when he fails in year 2? My donations will go strictly to the academic side of the house from now on. Long story short if Eric Morris performs in a underwhelming fashion Morris and Jared need to be gone. We operate like a program with no athletic history located in an isolated location few people would want to move to like Moscow, Idaho. This is why alumni walk away. -

Meangreen Fight replied to MeanGreenZen's topic in Mean Green Football
It is not a matter of rooting. Rooting for this team as currently constructed is a waste of positive energy. Let me know when Charlie Brown kicks the winning field goal when Lucy is holding..... -
The "finish the season strong" ship has sailed. You aren't going to impress Transfer Portal Players with a win over a bad 3-8 Temple team and win in a bowl over a team they don't want to go to. And I am not sure that at 6-6 we get a bowl invitation. Best case scenario we see only incremental improvement next year with a capped ceiling at 7-5.
-
Not an underated comment. Just the underrated truth. Top of the Texas market Academic Department Chair Salary is less than 320k. ( I found no reference that listed the top of market over 290k ) This why I will never get mad a players for wanting to get paid. If your average Division I AD was paid less than 400k and football coach less than 350k we wouldn't be paying players and more of the upper teir recruits would value the education the University's provide.
-
Exactly, unless we are going to pay unrivaled G5 coaches salaries for proven coaches this is the way to go. Most people aren't in depth knowledgeable college football fans. And I sincerely believe that none of the coaches besides the top 20% really provide more value to the program than they are paid in salary. The Mean Green Football brand doesn't recruit well by itself. So either we need to get into a P4 conference or do something substantial over a 3 year period to change that. The extensions for Littrell was just stupid and we kept him an extra year to hire a clone just with some FCS head coaching experience. This program just does dumb stuff which makes all the losing insufferable. I know if were this bad at my job with clearly bad decisions creating these kinds of results year by year not only would I likely lose my job. The company I am high up in the chain of command of would probably have massive layoffs. I do think if we could get a coach that has done something significant at P4 program South of Mason Dixon line in the past decade-15 year it might would worth paying 10%-20% more than what we normally pay. The opposite direction would be lowering ticket prices and playing just one "money game" a year and just hiring a "good coach" with "decent resume" like a Morris or Littrell.
-
And let Eric's agent pound all his connections for an P4 OC job. If we can offset his buyout with a salary from another job they might be able to afford the buyout. And for heaven's sake stop giving 5 year contracts you can't afford to get out of after 2 years. MAYBE if you are hiring a proven head coach that built a historical loser G5 team in the South into getting into conference championship games and bowl wins you give that guy a 5 year contract.
-
This hurts, I was skeptical of the hire in the first place. We got another OC that wasn't ready to be a head coach nor tweak his Air Raid offense to perform in the clutch and short yardage. Walked out of the game after that 4th and 1 up the middle run that took us out of the game leading 21-14. By the time I got to my car the score 31-24. See y'all back at DATCU Stadium 2026 maybe if we have a new head coach or EM wins 9 games in 2025. I can't afford to spend money on something that just frustrates me.
-
Tell me you didn't read "I don't think this can happen" without telling me. 🙄. Orr coming here as Head Coach is possible. Lane Kiffin went from NFL head coach to head coach at FAU. Deion Sanders went to FCS Jackson State. National Championship winning Head Coach went to UTSA. But thank you for highlighting how shitty UNT fans think our coordinator positions are. But in the same thread get scolded for suggesting hiring 2 respected experience high school coaches for taking the shitty job. 😆
-
Half Sarcasm and Half Not. This program vasilates from throwing money around to pleading poverty. The only reason this program has been so bad over the last 20 years is bad leadership. They aren't dumb they are playing some political game most fans are not pivy too. Coach Dodge should have retained most of Dickey's defensive staff and had more FBS experience on his staff from day one. Coach Mac should not have been allowed to bring a Stone Age offense in with him. Coach Littrell should have never been extended multiple times without winning anything. And Eric Morris should not have been allowed to bring in a gimmicky 3-3-5 just because it frustrated EM's offenses the most (in his opinion). EM should be gone at the end of the season to be sure but they gave him the rope to hang himself. 🤷🏽♂️. So bring in high school coaches onto the defensive staff and we might get lucky. Because in 2025 I am 90% certain this will be just like Seth's last year: 2025 EM Team will Predictable underachievement looking pretty much the same as the last 2024 team. I predict a slightly better defense in spots, a slight dropoff in offense and flirting with 0.500 most of 2025. If only EM was the QB recruiter & QB coach under Seth we might have a few bowl wins 😆.

For all the decisions after that weather aided win over UTSA, a 2025 season without 9 regular seasons or a bowl game being the 9th win should get everyone but Patrick Cob fired. Like others have pointed out, being a DC under a coach on the hot seat is not likely to be a stable position attractive to DCs that are covetted. So either you bring in a DC with an extended contract as the HC in waiting or you just roll the dice with a less experienced DC. I don't this can happen, but I would like Zach Orr. I want to see a 2026 or 2027 with Patrick Cobb and Zach Orr at the helm. Either one as Head Coach and the other as Assistant HC and coordinator for their side of the ball. Eric Morris just isn't ready to be a head coach at this level. If we were still in CUSA or contending with programs like Southern Miss, La Tech, UTEP, Rice, ULM, South Alabama and Texas State it might be a different story. In AAC and above coaching, talent elevation is just too good to achieve anything significant with one side of the ball that has NOTHING it does well consistently. Hell if they could just tackle people aren't walking out early 3rd quarter.
-
I really think everyone is overthinking it. Find a defensive leaning high school head coach in the state of Texas near the I-35 & I-45 corridor. Bring him and another defensive coach from the high school level he respects most. Because defensive players we have need more one-on-one attention to just be decent. So the only way to increase that one-on-one time with limited practice time by NCAA rules is more coaching bodies. I also think that having coaches fresh from the high school ranks are better scouts for targeting talent that can be flipped from offense to defense.

Diving deeper on this team is bad for your health and your fandom. 😆Not much of what they do and who they chose to hire, retain and pay makes much sense. Retaining Seth that last year set all this up. Clearly only a financial decision cause he lived up to expectations and made no progress. The anamoly was the weather aided UTSA win. They used that as an excuse (escaping some fan scrutiny) to keep Coach Littrell. @GMG_Dallas has some great observations here and it is impressive that he is still a fan. I can't dive that deep or else I will freaking blow a gasket. I might go to the ECU game just because the tickets will be so cheap.

I really want people to read this: https://meangreensports.com/honors/north-texas-athletics-hall-of-fame/odus-mitchell/3 This man was and still is very much under appreciated here. I love the legend of Mean Joe anyone under 50 can remember seeing prime NFL Mean Joe playing. There is no Joe Greene in a North Texas uniform without Odus Mitchell. We have low expectations because with dismiss what Mitchell showed us was possible here. Heaps of excuses and disgruntled fans attacking each other on our board. Odus Mitchell is the kind of "Old Denton" I want. And MAYBE if we truly honored him properly and consistently as the MOST IMPORTANT FIGURE in Mean Green Football history we could knock off some of the negative karma. The Mean Joe Coke commercial is cute but is never something remotely associated with UNT Football without Mitchell rebuilding the program from WWII hiatus, winning, integrating CFB in Texas, and bringing Mean Joe to Denton. Hayden Fry doesn't have enough in Denton to come and rescue without Mitchell. How this program has underachieved for 20 years is an insult to his legacy imo. I wasn't alive for his tenure and likely you weren't either. But legacy is about what you can read about when there aren't cute videos!

I don’t know why we are nitpicking the legacy of the only coach in 50 years that has put multiple team trophies in our trophy case. If you omit coaches who earned Hall of Fame status after leaving here you are left with Odus Mitchell and Dickey as the only coaches to ever “dominate” any conference for any length of time. Now looking back through history I am even more frustrated that in 2004 it appears we never tried to get Jerry Moore to come back to UNT. But come to think of it, maybe it is karma. A program that raves about Hayden Fry every opportunity rarely honor Odus Mitchell properly. A 20 year tenure with 10 conference titles. We should be playing on Odus Mitchell Field inside (DATCU, Apogee, or whatever corporation that wants cough up naming rights money) stadium. To the Vomiting Eagle Reaction care to elaborate why? Do you not know who Jerry Moore is and what he accomplished at App State after leaving NTSU in 1981? Mitchell rebuilding the program out of WWII not impressive along with integrating the program on the way to 10 conference titles and 7 consecutive wining seasons? Texas Longhorns play at DKR. DKR coached 19 seasons at UT Mitchell 20 at UNT DKR 11 conference titles Mitchell 10 conference titles -

I agree with the reason why most of our alumni don’t care. However I don’t agree with why our administration doesn’t care. I think they want to win on the cheap and not rock the boat with Old Denton. If they wanted to win they would publicly pursued and likely hired one of the high profile younger coaches that made a stop in one of our old conferences or FCS. Lane Kiffin, Larry Coker, Major Applewhite, Dat Nguyen (as a DC), Kevin Sumlin, Doug Williams, Howard Schnellenberger, Briles, Gary Patterson, June Jones, Deion Sanders or etc. Now if Zach Orr becomes a FBS head coach without going directly to a program that has not won multiple P5/P4 conferences title or New Years 6 bowls since 1980 without his agent getting a call from UNT it won’t be a surprise. The only coach hire I was ever slightly excited for was Dan McCarney. I have followed this team as a knowledgeable CFB fan for 25 years. -
Why not because it appears they are clueless? Doing things outside the box might yield some results and at least show fans you are really trying without regard for “Old Denton”. Old Denton wasn’t invested in winning, just some sort of vague local relevancy I am not sure is possible without consecutive 10 win seasons no matter the teams we have on the schedule.
-
Very much so and without a bowl win at any serious program bringing him in conjunction with a never finishing a season above 0.500 would get you fired. We don’t have body bag games maybe we should bring them back to help test and finance the cost of bad coaching hires. 😂

Appreciated. 😁 -
The Pit was living up to it name in a bad way the last time I went. A drive to Denton during on a week day is not something I can easily fit in my schedule. Is the contruction inside finished? Are the concessions lines short enough not to have me miss 1/4 of game time waiting in line for bad food? The students and Denton locals should be packing out Pit for games not during the holidays. I appreciate and respect the pitch. But in a football thread you are likely preaching to the converted or people who can’t travel to Denton so easily during the week. Weekend games after FBS and NFL seasons are over and holiday break games are my only real option for attending a basketball game. 🤷🏽♂️

The question is do you? Or are a friend or family members with some of the overseers of this mediocrity?
