  1. Thank you. We don’t have anything in common with SMU except being universities in DFW playing Division 1 sports and FBS football. We probably should equally hate TCU but we don’t for some odd reason. Maybe someone older than me can explain why other than the Haden Fry connection.
  2. Whatever this program is underachieving all on its own. We just use “SMU backstabbing” as an excuse and while our program does things like bring back the worst DC in all of FBS especially if you considered salary verses performance as a metric.
  3. That is an odd thing to make a NT fan/alumni not go. SMU aren’t are rivals and we shouldn’t feel some kind of way to about playing a bowl game in their stadium unless we were playing them in a bowl game. 🤷🏽‍♂️
  4. In my opinion it is very clear that only obvious undeniable failure is paid attention to. If we flirt with 0.500 and beat the FCS team on our schedule and the coach is perceived as a likable person nothing else really matters. They won’t make significant changes of any kind. That is why I am taking a break from religiously going to games and trying to find road games on TV. Just too frustrating when it most moves over the last 20 years seem to be chasing mediocre aspirations. They are version of the Dallas Cowboys without the championships, fanbase, or revenue. And their fans seem to continuously make excuses for them while programs newer to FBS level football and college football in general exceed their fans expectations. So the current AD fits right in with the culture of Mean Green football imo and I won’t criticize him for doing so. 🤷🏽‍♂️
  5. Texas St. ANOTHER upstart program has passed us by. We still have better facilities, and conference. But conference affiliation below the P4 only matters for media exposure that you have to capitalize on when you get a chance.
  6. I just disagree and you can’t find a program similar to our that would regularly turn out over 20k in a local bowl game vs another G5 program. A 6-6 G5 bowl team (not new to bowls before New Year’s Eve) isn’t a good draw down the street or in a great escape winter vacation spot like San Diego or Orlando. If it were so embarrassing many teams should be opting out lesser bowls due to turnout. What exactly are we learning about G5 programs facing each other in a bowl? The best ones are probably losing their best players to the portal (if they even play) or coaches (likely both like Sam Houston). The mediocre ones (7 wins or less) are likely retooling coaching staff and looking to the portal to patch deficiencies that lead to 5-6 losses. If we barely see 20k in seats at home games with good weather when it looks like we will be better than 6-6 then it just doesn’t make sense to expect that turnout in cold weather when we are 6-6. 🤷🏽‍♂️
  7. I definitely agree with this. I just have never like odd fronts at the college level without a versatile monster in the front 7. Like Saban running his 3-4 could always count on having in conjunction with big strong guys in the front 3 occupying gaps. I still would have preferred a guy with a little more experience. And what they said about how he coached the secondary was promising. Guys that can at least tackle on the receiver catches the ball and reduce the number of TD passes thrown when they let them inside the 30 would be a huge improvement.
  8. Very sensible questions. The negative reactions to your post are kind of ridiculous. 🤷🏽‍♂️
  9. Why is this an embarrassment? You find me another program with a metro location, no real rivals at 6-6 getting a high turnout for an exhibition game then I will be embarrassed. Bowl games have never been more meaningless and I suspect some will go away after their current media contracts go away. No G5 team that finishes 5th in their conference deserves a bowl game.
  10. Those wins numbers are meaningless until you factor out wins against FCS and lower*. (I believe FBS can schedule a D2 team but I am unaware if a match up of FBS vs D2 occurred this season). I believe the new Pac 12 will be thought of as better than MWC leftovers. And UNLV will eventually leave the MWC also. And referencing 6 wins when by default you can schedule 2 (most only do 1 but still) virtually guaranteed wins against FCS and lower is just not an accurate way to assess a conference’s strength. Head to Head in non-conference is the only way imo. But perception when there are not that many games is the one that matters. Because that is what will keep a 1 loss Army team out of the playoffs. Army’s blowout loss to Norte Dame looks worse than Boise’s to Oregon. But they struggled more recently to beat a bad Wyoming team 17-13 while we blew them out 44-17. Boise all had a close call to a bad Nevada team 28-21. Both of these games were in November. Your perception is just as valid as anyone else’s but the majority of power brokers will still probably view AAC as behind the new Pac 12. And it won’t even be close if the Pac gets UNLV while retaining everyone else they took from MWC.
  11. 🙄 like I have stated before DC under a lame duck coach is not a highly desired job for coaches with options.
  12. That is very subjective. Boise State or UNLV probably will get the G5 spot in the playoff over a one loss Army team. Louisville, SMU, Houston, Rutgers and Cincinnati left conference for greener pastures. So I don’t know who anointed the AAC as 5th, but the playoff committee isn’t listening to them. Army, a team brand new to the conference that came into the conference and dominated. They were independent juggernauts last year at 6-6 🙄. AAC is viewed as better than the MAC, CUSA and Sun Belt. But we certainly won’t be viewed as better than the reconstructed PAC 12 and right now it doesn’t look like we are viewed better than the current MWC.
  13. Riding high on a 5 game winning streak the 2013 Mean Green team lost to 3 year old program UTSA in Denton. The Mean Green had just dominated UTEP 41-7 and had extra rest before putting up 13 points in a 21-13 loss to UTSA. So it isn’t being scared this UNT team is poorly coached so we can lose to anyone.
  14. The 7 years is referring to Seth Littrell. Coaches at North Texas aren’t at a disadvantage compared to most of our conference foes. We constantly have low expectations and excuses for coaches coming here. This team won’t win 8 games next year.
  15. Why do we have to explain this? Mediocre over 7 years and below 0.500 against FBS competition. Nothing special and without massive changes in the quality of players we got, a mediocre coach isn’t winning the AAC as presently constructed.
  16. And we hired Eric Morris, as a KC Keeler starter kit maybe? Yeah, I won’t be going to games next year. Maybe if Temple comes to DATCU next year I will make at exception. I will be the one wearing the custom “KC was Available” shirt. MANY fans here first guessed this hire and wanted Keeler here instead of Morris.
  17. I absolutely am praying for this. A massive beat down in our back yard by a school in the state of Texas that wished it had our advantages. We should be discussing if the new head coach will be coaching in our bowl. Since that isn’t the case anything to accelerate the inevitable firing of EM, I am in favor of.
  18. You mean you bought into all that false advertising when they were drumming up support for the new stadium? Something is absolutely rotten in the AD Office and isn’t someone’s microwaved fish lunch. When EM is fired EVERYONE but the janitors, student interns and administrative assistants (secretaries) need to go with them. Probably should hang on to the compliance officers also. To the down voter: what specifically do you find fault with? Got family or friends in the AD Offices?
  19. We absolutely can. But the stupidity and low aspirational moves the Athletic Department has made while upstart programs who just started playing FBS after we got back to up to FBS has ran off most high donors. This program had to win over 300k local alumni. You don't do that by hiring guys like Dodge, Littrel, or Morris. Mac was the best PR hire but it seems like that is all they thought of when they hired him. They rewarded mediocrity with Seth. And we saw the result this last home game. Fact is for its size location the University of North Texas has put one of the most underachieving programs in FBS on the field for 30 years. The Portland State debacle is not possible even with Mac’s bad coaching at any school of our size with 100 years of history and 25 conference championships. I run into local casual college football fans all the time not sure we if we are in FBS or FCS.
  20. You could but I would be in favor of putting EM's replacement on staff? Morris knows the game and I wouldn't want division when it comes to recruiting. I do think our program needs a General Manager handling all executive duties directly related to football other than setting the budget allocated to football by the university. I think alot of the stupid stuff that looks bad to fans might go away if they had a general manager.
  21. That just sounds like delusion to me. If the defense breaks into the top 80 next year statically, I will be very surprised. Of available job openings at this level will be low on list. I would much rather join a brand new staff with 2 years of stability guaranteed than come here.
  22. 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Hypocritical yes. Unfair? Because y'all were stupid enough to get caught repeatedly? Give me a break. Without the Penn State scandal this opinion had no basis in the reality of what happened to SMU. I will give y'all credit for trying. But again this thread being posted here is part of the big reason we are a Joke Program and NOT SMU's rival. I have never been more disgusted with our Program and we are waxing poetic about SMU while UTSA laps us. 🙄
  23. Absurb this is even being discussed. Coaching is overvalued and this is an example of that double edge sword cutting the wrong way. If they had gotten blown out by Michigan this year I would understand entertaining this question. Vegas isn't accurate especially for in conference late season rivarly games. You could bring Saban into UNT with unlimited coaching staff salaries. But if our NIL money pool stays exactly where it is Saint Saban would struggle to win a AAC Championship (without cheating the NIL system to get money to players).
  24. I left that out intentionally trying not to be thoroughly negative. It is a good point just depressing because EM will be our coach in 2025.
  25. Now that deserves an eye roll response. 🤦🏽‍♂️
