All the first round games were basically blowouts. Who cares what people thought going in EXCEPT Vegas. Texas -11 vs Clemson PSU -8.5 vs SMU Ohio State -7.5 vs Tennessee Notre Dame -6.5 vs Indiana I think Indiana being a long bus ride away from Notre Dame was the only reason the game was PREDICTED to be more competitive than the others. And I turned off that game early partly because in the trenches, it didn’t look competitive early on. Hell I think Army might have been more competitive than SMU. But they subjectively chose (before the Army vs Navy game) Conference Championship game loser over Conference Championship game winner and everyone debating Alabama. 🙄. Utter BS.

If everything will go the way you think it will go then why do we play the games or even schedule games with spreads over 14 points? The underdogs in College Football are in a perpetual no win situation. Get the upset there in the regular season are a ton of excuses and devaluation of what your program accomplished. Close loss then the naysayers devalue that also (SMU vs Clemson and the push to shoe in Alabama a team that lost to the Tennessee team that got blown out by Ohio State). I want teams to prove it on the field. And since the big brand teams have always been invested in scheduling the easiest path to the post season. NOT EVEN APPEARING in your conference championship game should be majorly punitive. So I don’t give a crap what people think Alabama (or anyone else would do). They lost to Vandy and a bad OU team. And they could have scheduled a decent FBS team instead of home scrimmages against Western Kentucky and Mercer. Or they could kept a SEC conference membership where they play more than half of the teams in the conference in a season. The worst aspect of boxing that killed it popularity was the ranking organizations a chicken hearted scheduling. I hate subjectivity in sports that have easy scoring rules. And putting in a team that didn’t appear in their conference championship game in a better playoff position than a conference champion or championship game loser is 100% based on subjectivity if the teams did not play head to head and have the same win/loss record. Maybe I will be in the minority of College Football fans over 35. But I will have no interest in the opening round of CFP if they start routinely subjectively punishing Conference Champions over teams that failed to appear in their conference title game. Go look at the SEC standings; even arguing Alabama over Ole Miss getting that spot is subjective garbage. Both are 9-3 overall and 5-3 in SEC play. But almost universally people are lamenting Alabama not being included. The stupidity and greed of the SEC had border state rivals in the same conference not play each other this year. 🙄. To me that is the outrage. Maybe if they had played each other we one of them would be in the playoff and SMU fans couldn’t have had a reasonable protest if that happened.

A Big 10 vs SEC invitational College Football Playoff is of no interest to me. This will be the 2nd time Tennessee and Ohio State have played in their history. The Clemson vs Texas game will be their first matchup EVER. That to me highlights the absurdity of the out of conference scheduling for the bigger brand teams. And if Alabama went up to Penn State and got blown out exactly the same way nobody would mention it next year when they are in consideration for a wildcard spot with 2 (or maybe even 3) losses.

JUCO players will have 4 years NCAA eligibility remaining
Meangreen Fight replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
I just believe this part is just plain silly. Once players are declared employees collective bargaining will quickly follow. And huge amount of the donations will go away when these teams are officially viewed a semi-professional. I predict that a portion of P4 rosters (around 20-32 includes paid employees with contracts). Unlimited contracts with an academic requirement is just a bridge too far for a lot of institutions. The next level of player will have scholarships only and transfer rules in line with seriously pursuing a degree. The transferring players will either be actually doing it to pursuit a degree or hoping to get a paid contract position. So a P4 roster will likely look like this 20-32 contract players, 30 scholarships and 10-15 walk ons. I really don’t think you can have players be pure employees without academic attachment to the school and maintain the same level of interest in the sport. Collective bargaining with the whole of FBS (or P4) getting an anti-trust exemption is the only way to got forward. -

Take a stand? 🤣 They won't and they don't care who are in the uniforms they love as long as they can play and aren't embarrassing the program in their free time. The 27 year olds in FBS not playing QB will be the rarity. Maybe the over 23 year olds playing the more physically taxing positions we stay put their final 2-3 years prioritizing education over chasing a very short improbable NFL careers. 🤷🏽♂️ -
The Athletes did not have a say in when college sports when the seeds of its ruin were sowed. Actually a former College Athlete on the Supreme Court DISSENTED against this majority opinion: "The NCAA position that an interest in maintaining a competitive balance justified the television plan was also rejected.[21] While agreeing with the desire to maintain such a balance, Stevens noted that there was no evidence that the plan succeeded in that effort.[fn 9] The decision of the circuit court was affirmed.[26]" https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA_v._Board_of_Regents_of_the_University_of_Oklahoma So please keep this in mind before you come for the athletes and their "disloyal ways" because it is the system that has the power and teaching them their "disloyal ways". Everyone else Media Distributers, Commercial Sponsors, NIL contributers and Private Individual Sponsors are just buying product. And if you are a secondary fan of the Oklahoma Sooners on this board complaining about the system please preface criticism of the system or greedy immature athletes with "I know I am a hypocrite but....."

Nope from the beginning of this (end of College Football Alliance). It has all been about cut throat capitalism with the schools competing as individual business that happen to operate sports teams connected to academic institutions. Come on, you have Cal and Stanford in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The NFL stopped that madness as soon as they added franchises in geographic locations to fix that mess (Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals). College Football in comparison is going backwards. Imagine if the Los Angeles Rams and 49ers were moved to the NFC East because they were big markets like New York. 🤣. The same reason that NIL is a mess; not paying players will always be more profitable if your organization doesn't have to pay them directly and they aren't employees with rights and access to collective bargaining (Look up stories on the problems with the Gig Economy ie Uber, Grubhub and etc.) They should roll everything back to being in line with salaries for everyone in College Athletics being on par with academic administrators, professors and the players as amateurs getting scholarships and regional conferences. But we all know that all those people will not agree to take massive pay cuts (excluding the athletes because you don't need them to agree because the structure would be self evident the teams are not operating as if they are seeking profit). In this every conference/program for themselves model nobody has the desire or power to fix things on a macro level. And any entity that does will immediately be sued or have to allow for some sort of collective bargaining. 🤷🏽♂️ -

I don't see it that way. The system was built on "amateurism" and academics. The college football cadre abandoned that and the courts are trying to sort out the mess. ESPN (and other media distributers) are just buying and promoting to resale of the product. Hopefully the JUCO guys are mature enough to actually value the education they will get access when they get to FBS. I do agree it is being ruined but ultimately it isn't the government. The fall of the College Football Alliance gave the revenue sports programs to operate as independent capitalist organizations selling to the highest bidder. I think I go review that case and read what the defenders of the College Football Alliance and share in another topic. -
Not thrilled about playing State
Meangreen Fight replied to Dannymacfan's topic in Mean Green Football
Based on the decisions made at the top, they don't expect or want more. (example: RV the guy you basically fired as AD named president of NIL a few years later). We are exactly where we are supposed to be with a 6-6 record. In my opinion and many others there are way too many bowl games when team 5-6 vs FBS competition are in bowls every year. I wouldn't be thrilled to be playing any G5 team in a bowl game with our 6-6 record. If we win the game it is of no consequence. If we lose it just sours a mediocre season more. If not financially punitive, if I were AD I would turn down bowl bids when the team is 6-6 and ends the season with a win. Especially as long as the transfer portal schedule isn't changed. Might as well be playing Texas State in an exhibition game. Which are all bowls are with rosters influx. -
Breaking: North Texas lands Miami QB Transfer (Free)
Meangreen Fight replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
I agree with a lot of the criticism of the offense but a talented quarterback isn't going to fix bad play calls regularly for the coaching staff unless we are talking about All American caliber play. I just saying if you pencil in QB play on par with median good Chandler Morris game it won't effect winning much if the defense isn't vastly improved and as you pointed out play calling becomes better. I really don't think you can expect better offensive line play next season either. With this QB pickup I view as only fixing an unexpected deficiency by Chandler's departure, hopefully. -

🤦🏽♂️”all the excitement is unwarranted” is not a complaint it is just rational observation. Complaining would be saying “he is going to suck why didn’t we get somebody better” that is a complaint. Fixing the defense is the priority bad QB play RARELY factored in the losses we had. Nice to have somebody apparently talented based on his FCS performance to take Chandler’s place. But expecting him to be program lifter beyond reasonable optimism. If they can’t vastly improve the defense and win a little more almost everyone on this board will going griping again come December. -

Meangreen Fight replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
What does work out mean? Big numbers another 6-6 season? So far that looks like that is ceiling for an Eric Morris team. Settle down, I didn’t say he would suck. I just suggested all the excitement is unwarranted. 🤦🏽♂️. Every example you mentioned, the QB was joining a very good roster compared to their conference rivals. That will likely not be the case here. So expecting any transfer to elevate a mediocre roster to a conference championship is just silly. And at the G5 level that is really the only realistic goal you can have entering the season. And using the atrocious passing offense and team records in the period before Seth is just lowering the bar. Many of us also thought Seth would have gotten more out of the talented Jason Bean who left here and had some really good games for Kansas. -

Yes big time FCS numbers guarantee (if you don’t get injured) big FBS numbers on a winning team. I forgot all about that. 🤪 Oh, and BTW let’s get all the details of the comparison. 2015 Alabama team were national champions, the 2016 Alabama team lost in the championship game. 2024 Miami missed their conference championship game and 12 team playoff while New to the conference former G5 SMU earned spots in both. 😂 -

This got a lot of downvotes because it is wrong or the downvotes Hopes it is wrong? I remember reading all the excitement when we picked up an Alabama backup QB who transferred here….. He ended up being the backup here also. 🙄😂 Another Morris how ironic. 🙃 I am happy we can still get quarterbacks that have P4/P5 options. But let us see him with the team in spring ball at least before we start swooning and dreaming of a conference championship. -
Morris to UVA! Going to be a tough year for him
Meangreen Fight replied to MeanGreen_MBA's topic in Mean Green Football
Poster Child is referring to PUBLICITY for pay for play. SMU is so annoying not because they were the first, best, or only “cheaters” when it comes to Pay for Play. They just are the stupidest repeat offenders perpetually playing the victim card on the Fan Board of a team they won’t play anymore. OMG, I will be rooting for SMU vs PSU just to stick it to the camp that argues/believes that “more popular teams” are almost always better than “less popular teams”. But SMU fans with their “it was so unfair we got the death penalty for repeated offenses because other teams were doing it” song is beyond tired. And it makes it hard to root for them as the national underdog. Y’all bought your way out GET OVER IT. 😂 -

Everyone’s family financial situation is different. And I am sure “elite academics” factored in. Mentioning academics is comedic coming from a supporter of the original poster child child of Pay for Play program Pony Express. 🤪🤣🤣🤪. Every QB that has more than a cup of coffee in the NFL does well financially. The question is do you want to make money AND have the best chance to get drafted into the NFL?Putting up good numbers starting for any FBS team that is competitive helps those NFL dreams more than sitting on the bench or floundering for middle tier reputation P4 team. He probably could have went to any “elite academic” college that serious about FBS level football as freshman or first time transfer. Some of us jump all over Rodgers transferring to Cal. Cal has the more famous reputation as an elite academic institution than Virgina to the masses. (UVA ranked 24 and Cal ranked 17 in US News). Valued transfers go to Cal and UVA for the academics like transfers go to Boise State for the weather. -

If you aren’t earning enough to buy a house in metro area you want to live with cash left after taxes, this is a dubious move. Being a QB star at an above 0.500 G5 team putting up big numbers in a big market probably has more positive impact on your NFL prospects than just being a decent starter on middle/lower tier P4 team. I saw Spencer Rattler play well for the Saints this past Sunday in fill-in duty. I wonder how his career is different if had come in a program akin to ours with a coach who likes to throw the ball a bunch? And Virgina is foolish if they are devoting all good chunk of their overall NIL budget to Morris. I don’t think Morris can affect winning at that program to the point they get more TV exposure than they currently do. If he was rated as a game changer at middle tier P4 level by the consensus opinion scouts at this point in his career he would be transferring as the presumptive starter at profile program than UVA and getting even more money. -
Marshall Drops Out of Independence Bowl
Meangreen Fight replied to MCMLXXX's topic in Mean Green Football
It is but I think opening it with no concern of how the players will transfer academically is ridiculous. Transfer portal should open at the end of spring semester. You want to transfer before that you can redshirt as a walk on (no scholarship) without losing a year of eligibility. -
Just how out of whack is college football?
Meangreen Fight replied to emmitt01's topic in Mean Green Football
Again that was 2 seasons ago before all the injuries. Probably the main reason he isn’t already in the NFL is that his talent vs injury history doesn’t warrant a 1st round pick. We aren’t talking Andrew Luck. Stats from 2 years ago mean nothing when haven’t been healthy since. Many quarterbacks never regain the feel for playing the position at a high level after one season ending injury. Cam has had a least 2 career threatening ones. He also lost his starting job in training camp to Charlie Brewer in 2021. So stats without deep diving into how he performed against teams on Utah’s level don’t hold much weight. Also the consideration of what kind of offense he is playing in holds a lot of weight. Playing a pro-style offense putting up big numbers against conference opponents are a better indicator of QB talent than Air Raid quarterbacks on P4 teams facing FCS & G5’s. -
Marshall Drops Out of Independence Bowl
Meangreen Fight replied to MCMLXXX's topic in Mean Green Football
I freaking LOVE IT. The scam is up. If a team like Cincinnati get called up, how many those players have mentally shut it down for the year and would opt out? Why isn’t that a “safety concern”? I kind of want to see a wheels off Marshall team against a disciplined old school Army team. Maybe we will see 550 yards rushing. 😂 -

This is representative of what I hate the MOST about CFB. How can we make this assessment if he rarely plays? Let’s give in the pre-season Davey O’Brien Award if he goes to a loaded roster. Same thinking that has SEC/Big 10 (Fraud) teams screaming they deserve byes and home games in the CFP over conference champions because they are better. Any of these “lesser conference champions” would love home & home series with Ole Miss, Penn State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Tennessee, and South Carolina. -
I really think it depends on if QB can get a significant raise here staying with a Mean Green roster that looks like it could have a “Boise State” like season. Chances are slim you going to keep from going to the biggest brands in P4 that is virtually promising a starting role without a 5-star QB already on the roster. But I believe you can keep them from going to mid-tier and bottom-tier P4 programs if we retain the coaches he likes, along with a raise, and roster. SMU spends big money but even if they spent 35% less than they currently do their starting QB isn’t transferring to a place like Vandy, Michigan State, Kentucky or Purdue just to lead rosters that have significant disadvantages for most of their conference games.
-
I still roll my eyes at this nonsense. Without revenue sharing and everyone in the system acting like mercenaries you can't expect the players to behave any differently. College Football just got back Texas vs OU because the money got right. The system robust revenue sharing and budget rules akin to a salary cap the programs as a whole. All teams should get 25 contracted player (2 year minimum required scholarship included with the same academic requirements). Then 35 full scholarship players and 25 walk-ons. All freshman are either walk-on or full scholarship. Contract years only cover Sophomore-First Year Graduate School seasons.

Nuts? No there is nobody running the system they are just trying to make sure the checks coming in for the big boys continue to grow.
