***OFFICIAL UNT vs NAVY in-Game Discussion***
Meangreen Fight replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
It isn't just about money and we need to stop using this excuse. Seth and staff were near the top of CUSA for our entire time their. They were tops in an least 2 years I looked up the data on. Mac was well paid also. Now if you talking about NIL, that is relatively brand new but I would agree with you. But UTSA caught up and passed us without a stadium and paying their coach less than ours most of the time until they started winning big with their coaches earning extensions. There are more examples than just UTSA they are just are closet neighbor that has done this. There are no excuses for not being on par with programs we spend on par with. We extended Seth the second time with this flawed logic. Blindly throwing money at a coach without specific things that could uniquely help UNT Football has never been the answer. Otherwise famously Mac (who didn't have good a Texas/OK/Arkansas/Lousisna high school recruiting network) would have worked here. We probably needed to hire Mac as head coach and Dodge as OC for them to be successful here. 🤷🏽♂️ -

I don't like the rule but I think waiving this one off was appropriate. -
Actually I am. Check the other thread.

What exactly was he "selling"? I was never sold on him as the answer. Nothing unique about him as an Air Raid OC. He might be able to turn this around but he isn't radical quick positive change type head coach and his resume confirmed that at the time he was hired in my opinion of it. -

It isn't, our struggles isn't about being a "coaching graveyard". It about not supporting the right coaches and Adminstration and unfortunately some fans having a loser attitude striving for mediocrity instead of greatness. If the defense is the problem, you probably should hire a defensive background head coach. Or you hire a coach that can bring a huge amount of publicly in a crowded regional recruiting market. -
Plenty of places to "multitask" on all things TX vs OU and beyond. There is a section even here on gmg.com to do that. So call me crazy the but I consider the "Mean Green Football" section to be about Mean Green Football not trolling programs that won't schedule us. 🤷🏽♂️ Maybe the moderators will be proactive and move this discussion to it's appropriate location? Or create one for trolling programs that consider ours completely irrelevant.

Lot of energy wasted on a school that won’t send ANY of its teams to Denton to play us ever. Moreover if they found themselves 6-6 with an invite to play us in a minor bowl they would likely stay home. And OU has equal disdain for us. Our team is actually playing a competitive game right now. But hey have fun. 🙄
-
So you can't look up the score on the same device you are using to post on gmg.com? Are you not watching our game on TV and seeing the scroll across the bottom in featuring all the scores from FBS games. Are you not listening on radio either? I am sure by now they have mentioned the final of TX vs OU.

Until they schedule us in M/W Basketball or Football should we care? More specifically create a topic focusing on them here? It was a entertaining TV viewing appetizer for our game appetizer nothing more.

Looks dumb (high school ish) on TV. Either lean into the black with something else major in black on the uniforms or don't wear the black helmets. I think that is pretty simple coordination. It very logical they don't listen to us know nothing fans when comes to staff hiring and etc. But dang run some polling after these nationality telivised games get some feedback on the uniform combo. I think if they did that, they would not roll out the bad looking combos for big games just because "the players like black" 🙄. My answer to ANY RECRUIT no matter how many stars they have is if you like black so much wear 100% time you aren't in our official uniforms or find another school comparable that will give you a full scholarship.

After 4 games, how do we feel about Coach Morris?
Meangreen Fight replied to 3_n_out's topic in Mean Green Football
You are correct but it is worst than running the prevent. They just don’t have the size to only have 6 lineman/Linebackers in the box. That negative is compounded by not having a “P5 level starter" at the Joker position. I haven't extensively studied the 3-3-5 but as a philosophy it is predicated one player being extremely effective and versatile like 46. The 46 is named for the number of strong safety at the time Buddy Ryan created/refined it. If that strong safety can't do everything assigned to him at high level the defense isn't really that good. So they are always chasing a good Joker, I think the joke is on us fans. -

They fumbled the opportunity to get a new coach set up the best way possible for a new conference. It was inexcusable seeing what Seth failed to do in a weaker conference to give him a chance to "earn" the opportunity to coach in a tougher conference. Never had a decent showing in a conference championship game nor earn home field for one. I think we should have went with a defensive head coach with another Air Raid Offensive Coordinator. -

No offense would be good enough to make up for the worst defense in FBS. We aren't talking about a 32 team league, CFB is well over 120 teams. When you are among the worst in any category getting to 0.500 is virtually impossible. Since he is head coach you have to grade every major unit. Offense - B Defense - F Special Teams - C+ That averages to a C- at best. -
****OFFICIAL ACU vs UNT In-Game Thread***
Meangreen Fight replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
No criticizing our D line players cause it isn't their fault they don't have the size to play 3 down effectively. It just is stupid to have number 44 hold outside contain without a NFL calibet 300 lbs eating up double teams like potato chips. -

This is now officially ridiculous no more debate. A week off and a FCS opponent at home averaging over 10 yards a snap on opening drive. 🙄 -
AAC commish favors CFP model with 5 highest-ranked champions
Meangreen Fight replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
So stupid to essentially ignore the “B” in FBS. I have the best simple plan to get the maximum amount of relevant bowl games, keeping regular season conference game & championships important, allowing maximum number of G5 to get legit shot at P5 teams and a satisfying playoff. 🏈Keep the Bowls separate from the playoff 🏈Conference champions automatically get the best bowl invitation the conference draws 🏈At least 2 bowl are required to have P4 vs G5 champions 🏈Top 8 rank Bowl winners after all the bowl are played are selected for playoff (computer ranking factored in heavily, posted, but not necessarily followed verbatim) 🏈Top 4 seeds get home games in first round 🏈Semi-final played at rotating bowl locations like the current playoff 🦅🦅🦅 It all makes too much sense so it will never happen. -
Glad you wrote that. The numbers are here, leadership lacks the vision. Raising $100M is probably too lofty. But it is clear that to me that the leadership here doesn’t think they can approach half of that figure. If they did I think in this round of realignment you would have to beat down Coach Sanders’ door after losing to Miami Ohio at the end of 2021 or during the regular season 2022. Of all the G5 teams he could have come to, his local coaching and playing ties here would have made it the best fit. Colorado’s assistant coaches make under 5 million collectively and Sanders makes under 6 million. You raise just an additional 25 million here, you have more than paid for coaches salaries and a very healthy NIL program. The excitement that Sanders being the lead candidate here (between December 2021 to when he was announced as CU next head coach) generate at least 25 million pledged donations. This place in a G5 juggernaut if Sanders just brings 1/2 the talent he took to CU we lose 2 regular season games max. Then there are several other high profile coaches you could have pursue and brought on a top flight assistant coach staff with for less than the CU Sanders package without needing to raise 25 million. Just a short list would include: Major Applewhite and Doug Belk.

So we really can't criticize the head coach, eh?
Meangreen Fight replied to TripleGrad's topic in Mean Green Football
I don’t understand the negative reaction to this comment. SMU doesn’t respect us and probably will announce discontinuing our series after 2025 soon. They absolutely don’t have the belief “that a rising tide lifts all boats” when it comes to our rivalry. -
I really think that is only a 50/50 proposition at best for SMU, especially if there is a P2. Programs like Vanderbilt, Northwestern and other rich private school already in the P5 but irrelevant when it comes to TV viewership in those conferences aren’t safe. The media partners are going to limit purchasing dead weight inventory games in their next deals. They aren’t stupid and with streaming they have the most accurate data they have ever had on viewership. So if/when those SMU games vs Wake Forest, Duke, NC State, Boston College, Cal and Syracuse come in with low numbers the bid to add them to a P3 conference will be low if they are included at all. If they aren’t winning and getting viewership that averages out to midrange in ACC viewership ratings it doesn’t make a lot of sense to a distributor to add them.
-
Making big swings just isn’t in the DNA of this program. The leadership swings the bats here for singles. Waiting late to get rid of Seth and not hiring or even publicly pursuing a huge name is typical of UNT. They hope a Seth or Morris will turn into our Gary Patterson. And while I hope for that to ironically it is almost unrealistic as hiring Nick Saban. What SMU is doing though is foolish IMO. They could have used that money to money whip an elite coaching staff and NIL. They could dominated AAC a few years, gotten the playoff bids coming 2024 season and after. With that success they would been in basically the just as good a position when the ACC breaks up. I don’t think being in the bottom of ACC with no revenue coming in is better than dominating a G5 conference 3-4 years and making the playoff multiple times.

Watch Party - Alumni Pavilion Fund Raiser
Meangreen Fight replied to Meangreen Fight's topic in Mean Green Football
Pretty crowded. But I believe they did that because of food delivery problems for the Cal game. For all the games I have been too with decent attendance the Pavilion is uncomfortably crowded with no seating available. Also there is no space inside for local chapters to promote getting active within their chapters. -
Game Day vs La Tech- How are we feeling?
Meangreen Fight replied to jtm0097's topic in Mean Green Football
I think with this defense without the size to play effective with 3 down linemen, exotic blitzes on 70% of defensive snaps is the only way. Force them to make huge plays to score. We can have multiple 8 play scoring drives against us and win. Because the defense will get tired and they will be able to run the ball in the 4th quarter with a lead and close out the game. If we lose doing this and the game is close I won’t feel as bad as I did with the FIU loss. If we lose playing a lot of zone, just conventionally sending 3 down lineman and one linebacker to occupy offensive linemen; I will just 🤷🏽♂️ and wonder how long will it take for the staff to start feeling the hot seat.
