For all the doubt about Morris….
Meangreen Fight replied to MGNation92's topic in Mean Green Football
That is green tinted assessment of our win against UTSA. That team beat us in our next 2 matchups the following season. And I argue that 2021 UTSA was not as good as the 2022 we lost to twice. And the Mean Green 2022 was probably a little better than the 2021 team. I hope you enjoyed that wasted season that it earned Littrell and company. 🙄 -
Within reason; and twice a year should be the limit. And I hardly believe that it would impact loyalty to the program at all.

For all the doubt about Morris….
Meangreen Fight replied to MGNation92's topic in Mean Green Football
That is the truth no sense downvoting or rolling your eyes at that comment. UTSA is the ONLY team in college football south of Idaho and Syracuse that plays their home games in a dome. I was there probably not like the people who downvoted and eye rolled. It was cold, wet, windy a miserable. We were a dominant running team and they were a passing team. You couldn’t have crafted a better home field advantage for us that day with 20,000 more fans showing up. Being dishonest about our program doesn’t help it do better.- 56 replies

For all the doubt about Morris….

And if the defense made some key stops like they did today. We aren’t winning many games with the performances the defense put up in our losses. -
That sounds “too professional” for how we like to do things outside of academics and building contruction at UNT. And what you are talking about is a small team with a director at the head with final say so. I definitely wish they would do that and maybe employ the College of Visual Arts and Design as creative resources. Let students in those degree programs brainstorm and bring in ideas that are reformed to fit the overall branding, color scheme vision.
-
I think that would be in the realm of an assistant AD if we don’t have a Director of Brand Marketing. I think outside the sports program we have someone doing that. But that person doesn’t seem to have the authority of the sports teams. And they probably should have that authority, in my opinion of what we have seen over the years back at the FBS level. The black helmets should NEVER be worn without the black jerseys. And they only should be worn twice a year max.

I thought it was gonorrhea, but we will go with your take. I was trying to be nice; at least gonorrhea goes away. 😂
-
Yes, either they should stop talking about branding or STOP putting the team in Black in games in conference or against P5 teams. It is like a team talking about focusing on getting pressure on the QB rushing 3 at him 80% of defensive snaps. (I would much rather them do both and just have so logical branding decisions)

To be fair the line never gave him time when they rushed 4 or more. And I would expect Tulane's defense to cover well with dropping 8. -

I think we can settle down the fire Morris comments at least until after the Memphis game. -

I question Tulane wasting a trick play on this defense. I would want to save that for a close game against a good defense. Maybe 2nd half of this game but to this point this defense hasn't shown any capacity to stop your regular offense. -

These black helmets on TV look as bad as the defense. -
Somewhere in the multiverse UNT didn't start playing football at any level until 2002. And in 2023 they rolled at uniforms inspired by the show Dallas with a silhouette of South Fork. In that universe this UNT Alumni is dropping off all his UNT gear at Goodwill donations center.

So our game this week is against a ranked opponent
Meangreen Fight replied to TripleGrad's topic in Mean Green Football
Man you aren't lying. Until I am stopped on consecutive run plays for less than 3 yards, I am only passing to keep UNT defense honest. 2-1 run to pass ratio. -
Wasn’t this what we were hoping for?
Meangreen Fight replied to 3_n_out's topic in Mean Green Football
I give him a pass for week one. But Rogers not starting game 2 made no sense. Sometimes guys are just better in games than in practice. But once you see the starter just isn't that great on game day you play the guy with better athletism and arm if he knows the playbook. -
I wonder why the eye roll reaction to this comment. We need to win to really start complaining about or significantly addressing lack of attendence with solutions. It is really that simple.
-
Yep, seem pretty stupid with "Green" in your nick name but I give up. Maybe old heads that gave Dickey such guff for the original black jerseys will let it go now. The helmets looked great 5 rows away from the field but that isn't the way most fans are watching the game. SOW with fine lines in white so you can see it would be better on TV. 🤷🏽♂️

Some of these guys are just either young & dumb or just getting poor advice. If you are an offensive skill position guy, transferring to P5 is probably not going to work out how you think it will. All the positions on offense are dependent on the OL and QB. So if you are producing good numbers at a mediocre or good G5 program, most likely you are not going to step to P5 and pad stats for NFL consideration. If Seth and other offensive coaching personnel go with you, a transfer for one of those guys would make sense. Defense is a different case. If you have the size, speed, block shredding technique, play diagnosis smarts and ball skills you will make plays wherever you go. You just have ball out in training camp to secure playing time. Nixon and the brothers that transfered to UCLA made sense for them imo.

Not sure we can compete anymore
Meangreen Fight replied to southsideguy's topic in Mean Green Football
Utah before Urban Meyer in the WAC/MWC wasn't really much better than the Mean Green's better FBS level teams especially while Hayden Fry's tenure. It is only in the 90s and beyond the gap started to grow to the point of being insurmountable. We can make excuses all day long for this program it's pointless. They've had many opportunities to close this gap with good hires, standing up other NCAA level teams, investing in facilities earlier, not dropping to FCS in the first place or staying at the FCS level so long. A serious ambitious and smart program would have fired Seth earlier and been the first FBS program to announce interest in hiring Deion Sanders. So what you don't get him the publicity alone puts out the message that we aren't content just aspiring to be one of the best G5 programs. Cincinnati, Louisville, USF, Boise State and Miami at points since the 1970s have been on par with us. Now we are specks in their rear view mirrors. And that isn't because they speed up, we slowed down and took detours. So we need to stop focusing on what P5 is doing and make sure we aren't looking at UTSA like we were looking at our old Big Sky conference rivals Boise State in Fiesta Bowls a few years back. There is plenty of money in DFW area for a Mean Green team that puts together multiple regular seasons winning 10 games. -

I am not sure PB sticks around for the last year of Littrell's contract. And even if they had retained Seth, I don't think he gets a contract extension beyond just an paid option to retain him for 2024. With PB experience, and stage in life he wasn't going to stay anywhere that wasn't going to be on national TV every week. -

Yep our program sucks compared to what has been invested in it. That is unquestionable and debating with people who think otherwise because they don’t look at the investment data is a waste of energy. Our problems are all about management. Littrell shouldn’t have gotten a 2nd extension. McCarney should have been forced to hire a spread OC with a strong recruiting reputation in Texas. Dodge should have had a staff full of FBS experience brought on board with him. Dickey should have gotten more financial support and facility upgrades started earlier. All of these things were first guessed by many longtime members of this board and fans. Even now Morris and company were set up for failure given the task of upgrading this roster to compete in AAC later than necessary because they chose to hold on to Littrell for the entirety of the regular season. At the latest Seth should have been fired after the first loss to UTSA. That gets you to the market early, hire Morris (or someone better) earlier and have them recruiting at least part time if they are already on a P5 staff with big opportunities on the horizon. -

They didn't fire Littrell for him. Seth got himself fired with consistent mediocrity. He is just as "good" as Littrell thus far and that is the problem. -

My thought exactly. He is better with quarterbacks so far in comparison to Seth. But Littrell had a lot of other shortcomings. -

Offense was solid not great but solid. Problem is unless we score 34+ we can't win with this defense. And certainly can't make turnovers on offense.
