  1. While looking through some stuff about the game tonight I found a web site that showed it being broadcast on ESPN 3. While that is not my favorite place to watch a game for those who cannot get to Denton tonight it sure beats nothing.
  2. Those brought back some great memories. Thanks for sharing them.
  3. Most younger folks don't remember it but TCU was once just horrible in athletics - especially football. Dennis Franchione got it turned around before leaving for Alabama and Gary Patterson has kept it going since then. What some of the old time administrators at TCU will tell you is that once they started winning in football the number of kids applying to go to school at TCU went up and the ACT or SAT scores of the applicants went up. People who do not like athletics will tell you that this was just a coincidence but the people who were at TCU at that time strongly disagree. They will tell you that the positive publicity that they got from athletics had a very positive result for the school that continues to this day. The author of this article was probably in diapers when this occurred and has no idea about this type of thing at TCU - or anywhere else for that matter. Too bad..........
  4. The story was on the front page of their Sunday print edition and made the point that only Texas and Texas A and M did not rely on student fees and university funds to finance athletics. It quoted several students who did not seem thrilled that athletics is part of their college expenses. It was pretty slanted and pretty negative towards North Texas and other schools but I really don't think anyone pays any attention to the Star-Telegram these days. It is still available on their web site if you want to read it but it really is a waste of your time in my opinion.
  5. Try calling John Nitardy. I have dealt with him and found him to be helpful. I do not have a direct number for him but just calling the Athletic office and asking for him by name should get you what you need. If he is not the right person, perhaps he can send you on to the person that is. I enjoy reading your comments. Hang in there........
  6. Bob Way is shown in the upper right hand corner of the program. He later coached at North Texas on Rod Rust's staff and stayed to teach in the men's PE department after his coaching days were over. He is a really good guy.
  7. It was a great game except that the wrong team won. I would love to see someone wipe that smirk off Nick Saban's face but now we will have to wait another year to have that happen.
  8. Our family attended the game. It was really pretty and not terribly cold due to no wind. Watching the Florida State kids play in the snow after the game was worth the price of our tickets.
  9. I really enjoyed watching that game. It was one of the best ones I have seen in a while. I love Army's offense even though most of you don't. I am really sorry that we dropped the series with them. They are a quality opponent.
  10. My dad used to say "misery loves company". Maybe that is why I enjoyed seeing SMU get pounded even worse than we had. Their players looked like they really did not want to be there and that was certainly true after the middle of the first quarter. It couldn't happen to a more deserving group.
  11. Conference USA games are usually announced just before National Signing Day in February.
  12. Those were some great memories. Thanks for posting them. I really thought we had it going ........but then the bottom dropped out. Maybe this time will be different. Let's hope so.
  13. That was funny.......and even funnier in person
  14. It is okay with me that UTSA is staying home and I am even happier to see New Mexico State going to the Arizona Bowl. We had some great games with them during our Sun Belt years . They are leaving the Sun Belt and going Independent. That is a tough road to go but I wish them well.
  15. I agree with Harry 100% on this one. We have been season ticket holders since 1972 and I believe this is the best home and home series we have had during those years. I understand that their offense is difficult to prepare for but I have never known of a good coach that did not look forward to a real challenge. Wren Baker has done a lot of good things since arriving in Denton but ending the Army series is not one of them.
  16. When you get a chance, look at what the Texas Aggies are wearing to play Arkansas at JerryWorld tomorrow and think about the nuclear reaction on this board if North Texas did something like that. Interesting.....
  17. I tend to agree with tmjerm that there are lots of great memories in the old place. Plus, I would like one more chance to go in and pee against the wall like in olden times.
  18. To me there are two bright spots about this game. Number one is that the game is over. Number two is that we don't play them again this season.
  19. I hope that all is okay with her and that she just decided that it was time to go. If they wanted an interim Athletic Director they could always contact RV, couldn't they ???
  20. I agree with those who saw the actions of the band as a class act. I spoke with an official of UNT athletics during the game. He said that they were unsure about where Lamar was going to be able to get hotel rooms for their players after the game. The hotel rooms in the area are packed with people leaving the Gulf Coast area and that they could not get back into Beaumont due to road conditions. They have a mess. We can only offer our prayers for them and say "Thank You" to the people in Denton who have shown them kindnesses.
  21. Transportation may be an issue for them, too. Today's Ft. Worth Star-Telegram had a story about two local area schools that were sending their football teams - but not their bands or cheerleaders - to games in Oklahoma because so many charter busses were being used to transport refugees in the Gulf Coast area.
  22. With all the problems that this thing has presented - and will present - the cancellation or rescheduling of ball games is way down on the list of importance. Having said that I saw the post about the Rice football team being unsure about their travel plans once they reach Los Angeles. The Rangers and Astros are coming to DFW instead of Houston after their games today and are unsure about their series that is scheduled to start on Tuesday in Houston. The Houston Texans cannot get home and are practicing in Frisco with their game in Houston on Thursday night maybe being moved. I hope that Lamar can get out of their area in order to play our game on Saturday but I THINK both teams are open on October 7th so moving the game might be an option if it can't be played this week. Let's keep all these folks in our prayers and hope for the best.
  23. Traditionally the defensive side of the ball gels quicker than the offensive side. This is not anything to be concerned about yet.
  24. Well deserved honor. I liked the man and enjoyed watching his teams play.
  25. Vito divided the offense up into groups - quarterbacks, running backs, receivers, etc. It is too bad he lumped the entire defense into one group. There are lots of outstanding players who got left out using this system. It could have been down linemen, linebackers, and defensive backs in my opinion.
