  1. Is anyone else old enough to remember "Mustang Mania" when Russ Potts was the Athletic Director there? They gave away a ton of tickets but some of them actually got used. I'm not sure that it helped their program in the long run but it got some people to go to their games that would have never gone without that giveaway program.
  2. He will get the full five years of his contract regardless of his won-loss record.
  3. Two wins will be about right as the Todd Dodge era continues.
  4. I was glad to hear the good things about Robbie Deheck. He was in some of my wife's classes at Azle High School. He is a good kid and a good student in addition to his skills on the football field.
  5. Yes. If we are going to play one school each year at their place with no chance for a return game - money game - we need to balance the schedule by scheduling a team that will come to our place without expecting a return game. That gives us a chance to balance our schedule.
  6. I do not believe that the last sentence is accurate. I believe he will be given the full five years of his contract despite any won - loss record.
  7. Channel Five had a big story on their sports news at 10:00 PM on Saturday night telling how North Texas was the worst college football team in America. It showed pictures of some of our players at practice and showed pictures of Coach Dodge. Isn't that just wonderful.
  8. I think it is great that the athletic department actually published the future non-conference schedules for the next few years. It had been the most closely guarded secret since the Manhattan Project during World War II. I hope the 2011 schedule can be modified to only play one of the "money" games but it may be too close to the date of the games to make a change. At some point fairly soon University of South Alabama comes into the Sun Belt Conference as a football playing member. That will limit us to three non-conference games each year. That might be why we only see three games or less listed starting with 2012.
  9. The Star-Telegram had a similar article on Sunday. They mentioned our game Vs Army but really talked more about all the high level games coming to the new Cowboys facility and to The Cotton Bowl.
  10. Please check my facts because the lovely Mrs. Huff says that I have been known to foul up but........I believe we have had FOUR winning seasons in the last SIXTEEN years. That is horrible. I do not see the current staff getting that stopped. One can only hope and keep showing up.
  11. If they don't have the former Miss California on there they are missing one heck of an opportunity to increase sales.
  12. Nice pictures.....good points..... I would rather win a game by a score of 10 to 7 than lose a game by a score of 38 to 35. We forget that some of Dickey's teams could put points on the board pretty quickly. I will be glad to see the Todd Dodge experiment run its course so that we will have a chance to get a head football coach who has been around winning programs at the college level. It does make a difference.
  13. I am one who thought that 2008 would be better than 2007. Oops..... I have learned my lesson. I think we will be 2-10 again this year. I am just not sure where the two wins will come from. Until we have a kick ass, take no prisoners type of defense like Brandon Kennedy and that bunch we will not be in the running for a conference championship. I do not see that happening this year.
  14. I was also present at the games in the Cotton Bowl and agree that they were a disaster. There was a country-western concert after the OSU game. I think there were about 50 people who stayed for that. What a mess. After that game I told North Texas athletic department officials that I would never again attend a North Texas game at The Cotton Bowl. Nothing has happened that would cause me to change my mind. Let's play our home games in Denton.
  15. I think the next step is for Governor Goodhair to sign the bill. There is no reason why he would not do it, but then one never knows with him. After that, I believe the College Coordinating Board must give its blessing. That is not a rubber stamp group. A knowledgeable fan told me that they held up the Aggies basketball arena for a year. That cost the Aggies a bunch of money and caused them to have to play another season in their old gym. Let's hope that both those steps get done quickly so that dirt can get moved.
  16. I think the point that the NCAA is trying to make is that it isn't Dickey's players or Dodge's players it is North Texas' players. The name of the coach does not matter. They are trying to get the university to understand that it is the responsibility of the university to recruit players that can actually have a chance to get a degree and work toward making sure the players make progress towards that degree. I agree that any coach can have a "crop failure" type class. I believe that is why the evaluation is done over more than one year.
  17. Serious comment - I am glad that nobody died in this situation. With all the water and metal and with the electricity still on, there could have been fatalities. Not so serious comment - The Cowboys ought to be used to things collapsing. Their team has collapsed each December and/or January for several years now.
  18. I agree with what Rick said !!!! Happy Birthday, John
  19. Don't be surprised to see them on the North Texas schedule before too long. They will be in our conference some day and would be a good nonconference opponent - sort of like Western Kentucky - until then.
  20. Question one - Is Riley our starting quarterback? Question two - Is a pig's butt pork?
  21. To answer the question that was asked earlier, there is nothing in the Startlegram about it.
  22. It would be nice to see the University award him a degree posthumously. I think in a situation like this where the student is so close to finishing a degree it would be the proper thing to do. If anyone with ties to the university reads this I hope you will take it to the President of the University for her consideration.
  23. I think you would make more money if you sold chances on the opportunity to fire the Chancellor.
  24. Back in olden times when the first weight room was built next to Fouts Field some state funds were used to build it (in addition to university funds) because some P.E.classes in weight lifting were also taught in that facility. It would make sense to do something similar at the new stadium.
  25. I know I am just being picky, but it is Black Knights instead of Black Nights........ I am looking forward to them coming to Fouts. The only other time that we played them "here" was at Texas Stadium. When it is time for us to go up there, try as hard as you can to make the trip. It is one of the best ones we have ever made.
