It might be fun to think about but it will never happen. Can you imagine the howl that would go up if a Dickey coached team actually defeated a Dodge coached team ??? Oh, baby.......... For all his faults - and he has a few - Rick V is WAY too smart to ever let that happen.

Wouldn't it be interesting to see Sam Houston State come to Denton if Kansas State backs out on their game with us. It might give some of our Dickey haters a chance to vent a little bit.

I've heard it said that "If you keep on doing what you've always done then you'll keep on getting what you've always got". I guess the folks who make decisions about North Texas athletics never heard that.

Can you tell us exactly what was said? This is a total surprise to me.

If Todd Dodge is retained and told to make some changes to his coaching staff, this might be a place to look for some replacements. They looked like a pretty well coached team when we played them.

The move from assistant coach at Texas A and M to head coach at North Texas is not a step up but the move from unemployed to head coach at North Texas is a step up.

I think SMU paid a bunch of money and got a proven winner at the college level and North Texas didn't.

I think an even better question might be ......"Would you continue to support the program even if a new coach is not hired". My answer to both questions would be "Yes" but with a new coach I could do it with a lot more enthusiasm.

Army would have to defeat Navy in order to get six wins and be bowl eligible. I think that is highly unlikely.

I read Vito's report and had the same thoughts. I did not believe that hiring a high school coach with almost no experience at the college level was the right thing to do and have seen nothing in the last three years to change my mind. Having said that I hope he is back for 2010. At that point every kid on the team will be one that he recruited. There should be no excuses at that point. I hope that Rick will have a "Come To Jesus" meeting with Coach Dodge this next week and explain to him that anything less than seven wins and a trip to a Bowl game will be seen as unacceptable. With less wins than that we should thank him for his service and send him on his way.

The one person who was not thanked - and should have been - was former President Norval Pohl. He hired our current Athletic Director and started the ball rolling toward what happened on Saturday. He was a good man who did a LOT for athletics at North Texas. He died way too young.

It was announced just prior to the game that the low clouds prevented that from happening. I was disappointed but safety comes first.

To me the best reason for having Todd Dodge back in 2010 is problem it would cause with the high school coaches of the state if he is dismissed. They would probably see a dismissal at the end of this year as one where Dodge did not get enough time to turn around a bad program. He has a tremendous following among the high school coaches in Texas. One year from now after he has had four full years to impliment his program might be a better time to make the decision to let him go.

It is good to read another (shorter than usual) epistle from the famous Jim Plummer. He is one of the good guys in the world. There has never been a better supporter of North Texas athletics.

I think many of our fans would be very happy with four wins - especially finishing on a positive note. I predicted 2-10 back in August. Four wins would be double what I thought we would get.

Turner Gill to Western Kentucky would be very bad. Turner Gill to North Texas ( at some point in time ) would be very good.

Army's offense is the mid-line option. Their offensive linement do not have to knock people off the ball - they just have to screen the defensive linemen and linebackers so their backs can run past. It is a good offensive and will be fun to watch......if you like option style football.

The other problem with going to the TCU game is that you would have to fly to Laramie, Wyoming and rent a car to get to the stadium. You would then have to sit in a VERY cold stadium to watch it. Going to the North Texas game would be much easier......and warmer.

Lurker's post caused me to laugh out loud. That is about the only thing to cause that this Fall. Thank You, sir........

I think it would be better to have a new coach and new coaching staff with their enthusiasm rather than Todd Dodge on his fifth year of a five year contract with no hope in sight for the future.

The guy who used to be the announcer at Brewer High School was even worse........if you can believe that.

They are wrong. His job is safe for at least next year.........and maybe the year after that, too.

Next year will be his fourth year in Denton. At that point every member of the team will have been recruited by him. There should be no questions about having to fit in players that he did not recruit to his system. If we do not have a winning season next year he should be gone.
