If true, this should be interesting since Texas Tech and New Mexico play every year.

The opening line was 4 and has moved to 9 and one-half. That tells me that most folks who bet on games do not think the game will be very close.

The strengths of our team heading into the season were our offensive line and our running backs. At this point I would like to see us line up with a tight end, a fullback, and a tailback. Let's hand the ball to Lance Dunbar about 30 times per game and run some play action passes. It really does not matter what I think, but there it is......

Our seats are in the end zone, too. I think that is where they have moved the visiting fans. The last time we were there we sat on the side opposite the press box at about the ten yard line. In watching the Army vs Hawaii game last Saturday, it looks like the Corps of Cadets is now sitting there.

The young man is an excellent quarterback in their offense and a good leader. His long run was a major part of them coming back from the edge of defeat last year at Fouts Field. I am glad that he is playing. I want to beat them but I want it to be against their best players.

In the real estate business they say that location is everything. In football recruiting it is timing. I have known James since he entered the seventh grade. He is a fine athlete and a grea kid. He is the kind of young man that you hope your daughter brings home and says "dad, I would like for you to meet....." At the time he was looking to leave baseball and go to college to play football Darrell Dickey had been fired as head coach at North Texas and Todd Dodge had not yet been hired. Had the Dickey group still been in place at North Texas I would have contacted them. I knew several of them and they would have looked at him then made a decision. By the time the Dodge group was hired, James was headed for Rice. He had a fine career there and obtained two degrees. It seems to have turned out all right for him. I did not have a problem with the call. I had a problem with the behavior of the player. Apparently Coach Dodge felt the same way because he was quoted in the Denton newspaper as having said "It is something we worked on all through the off season. When you score, act like you have been there before and hand the ball to the official. Don't be selfish and try to bring glory to yourself". Go down to the bench and celebrate with your teammates.

I think we are a little better than we were a year ago but not good enough to hang with Clemson. I think it will be Clemson 49 North Texas 14.

I don't think the Clemson game is a "must win" game but I do not see a way that we can get to seven wins unless we beat both Rice and Army. Now those two are "must win" games for me.

I think the MWC will look really hard at the financial end of this deal. If adding two teams and a football conference championship game makes more money PER SCHOOL, they will add Utah State and one other school. That other school might be UTEP or Houston. At that point there will be a big scramble for schools to get into Conference USA. It should be interesting.

Been There...........Done That..........It Sucked

The thing that most folks don't remember about Hayden Fry is that he was available to North Texas because he had just been fired by SMU. He had some good seasons there but his up and down seasons wore thin in Dallas so they let him go. We were tickled to pick him up. Maybe we should take a hard look at coaches who have been dismissed recently if we have an opening at the end of this season.

The KXAS ten o'clock sports said that Houston was being considred if the MWC wanted to go to twelve teams. I have no idea where they got their information or how valid it is but that is what they reported.

Being all-conference is nice but getting your degree is important. Congratulations to these new alums.

Well, let's see if I understand this right......if you have the players that are good enough to win seven games and you don't win seven games, that only leaves one area that underperformed, doesn't it ?

There is usually a Cadet Review (parade) at 9:00 AM on football game day. It was cancelled due to very cold weather the last time we were there. There is not a tour of the academy on football game day but the day before the game or the day after the game it is a good activity. It leaves from the West Point Visitors Center. That center is located outside the gate of West Point. Be sure to take a photo ID with you. You will need it to get onto the grounds of the academy for any event - including the football game. You can check their web site for other activities. I am sure that there will be tailgateing hosted by the UNT athletic department. You might contact them to see what they have planned.

I'll add the 2009 Army game to the list. Late in the fourth quarter I turned to my wife and said "if we don't find a way to F**** this up, we just won a football game". Well, I'll be darned if we didn't find a way to do exactly that.

Arkiesman, the seats in the Club Level are actually outside. There is lots of stuff inside (buffets, etc) but the seats to watch the game are outside.

If I read the story right - and that is a big "if" - it says that Montana will take our game at Tennessee but says nothing about a FBS team coming to Denton. We could still open with Houston and not play a game prior to that one. It might mean playing twelve straight games with no open date, however. That would be tough, but it could be done.
