Our record vs Tulsa is a dismal 6-17-0. We last beat them in November of 1969 (drex and Plumm were both close) in Denton by a score of 42-16. Hayden Fry lost to them in 1973 and 1974 and was smart enough to get them off the schedule. The Golden Hurricane has won the last ten games in the series. If they do go to The Big East I would suggest dropping them like a hot rock from our schedules.

Merry Christmas, everyone. I hope that you are able to be with the ones that you love today. We are sitting here with our daughter, son-in-law, and grandson watching a beautiful snowfall in Azle, Texas. We hope you day is filled with wonder and love.

Harry I am having a problem with the web site. My wife says that I spend WAY too much time on it and grumbles about that. Is that a problem that you can solve ? If so, it would be appreciated.

Thanks for posting the video. That was a very good team. Those were four enjoyable years. It is sad to think that two years from then the magic was gone and our program began to sink to the depths where we are now.

I was around during our days in the Big West with Idaho, Boise State, Nevada (Reno), Utah State, and New Mexico State. I hated going west and hope we would not accept any invitation to go west again - even to the MWC.

I've heard North Texas described as a "sleeping giant" for about forty years now. I am tired of that phrase. I believe it was Bill Parcells who said "you are what your record says you are" or words to that effect. We have been asleep now for most of the last four decades. I am ready for us to wake up and kick some ass. I just hope it happens soon because I am REALLY tired of getting beat.

I am happy for Cooper but sad for us. I really like Cooper and think he did a good job for us. We will miss him a lot.

Mack Brown said that for the first play in their game this Saturday they were going to line up in the wishbone and run a play as a tribute to Coach Royal. I think that is pretty neat.

Marching band selections from the old days.
Huff replied to letsgiveacheer's topic in Mean Green Football
Our family watches the Homecoming Parade from a spot on Hickory Street not far from the campus. Directly across the street is the home where Mr. and Mrs. McAdow lived. Although he had been dead for quite some time Mrs. McAdow still lived there. Each year the band would stop in front of her house. turn to face the house, and play the fight song. Mrs. McAdow would come to the front porch and wave as the band played the tribute to her husband. Mrs. McAdow died a couple of years ago so the band no longer stops. I miss the band doing that. It was a neat honor for a fine part of North Texas history. -
Can someone update me on the situation regarding Boone Feldt? He was one of our highest rated recruits last winter but had some health issues and left training camp to get them checked out (if I remember correctly). Did he get the issues taken care of ? Is he back on campus ? What is his status for Spring football and/or next Fall?

Don't forget that Derik Thompson already has his degree and could do the same thing if he decides that he is not going to be the starter next year OR if he decides that it is just time to get on with the rest of his life. We could be losing both our quarterbacks with playing experience before the start of next year. Wouldn't THAT be interesting?

I think "exclusive broadcast" means that ESPN3 is the only place you can find to watch it. The game will not be shown on any cable or over the air stations.

Heart of Dallas Kickoff Classic at Cotton Bowl
Huff replied to EAGLE83's topic in Mean Green Football
Many years ago we played Oklahoma State and UT-Arlington in the Cotton Bowl during the state fair. The games were poorly attended and in my opinion they were a disaster. I hope to heck we never try doing that again. -
CurveItAround the term "squadman" means that they were on the team and played but did not play enough to earn a letter.

My wife and I watched the show on Tuesday evening and thought it was really well done. It was an hour show with over half of it coming from Apogee stadium. The UNT portion was hosted by Gina Miller. She wore a bright green blouse and later chastized the studio guys for not wearing their green ties. She was seated in a director's chair on the playing field with the scoreboard in the background. The scoreboard had The Fan logo on it. She interviewed Coach Mac, Rick V, and two players - Derek Thompson and Brandon McCoy. Coach Mac was his usual upbeat self and emphasized the progress that has been made in the short time that he has been there and the amount of progress that still needs to be made to get to where the program wants to go. Rick talked about the Mean Green Villiage and all the facilities that have been built in a fairly short period of time. The players were very well spoken with "Yes, ma'am" and "No, ma'am" coming very naturally from them. Brandon talked some about his time in the Army in Iraq and how fortunate he was to have not been killed when a mortar round exploded near him. Derek mentioned that he had already received his degree from North Texas and was in graduate school now. Both players spoke about how their experiences last year made them better players and that they were looking forward to this season. They were great representatives for the athletic department and for the university. The show repeatedly had film clips from the Houston game and the Indiana game. Ms. Miller constantly referenced how nice Apogee stadium was and how neat it was that the scoreboard had their Fan logo on it. All in all it was a very well produced program. I plan to send a note of Thanks for both Channel 21 for their coverage and to the folks in the UNT athletic department for their part in making it happen. It was great publicity for us.

UNT Lands WR Darvin Kidsey from Houston Elkins
Huff replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I think the story indicated that he could clear 6-8 in the high jump........not that he was 6-8 in height. I agree with Eastwood Eagle, though. A wide receiver who stands 6-8 might be nice to have.- 18 replies

I think there will be twelve teams starting in 2013 then shift to fourteen when Old Dominion and Charlotte come in. That should give us a championship game from the start. My guess is that Tulane starts in the East then shifts to the West once the two eastern teams become eligible.

Lane Rawlins: New Conference USA membership to begin in 2013
Huff replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
We are very fortunate to have this man as President of our university. A lot of good things have happened at North Texas since he arrived and I do not think that is a coincidence.- 15 replies

I really hate that this young man is no longer with the football program. I thought he was a good player with a chance to be really outstanding before the end of his career. We will miss him.

Is Army still scheduled for 2013 at Apogee?
Huff replied to pogWo4life's topic in Mean Green Football
I am sorry to disappoint you but our next four game series with Army does not start until 2016 with a game at West Point. The 2017 and 2019 games are in Denton. The 2018 game is at West Point. -
It was announced today that Texas A & M has tweeked their schedule a bit for next year. They now have four -that's right four - games scheduled for Kyle Field. One of those is againat a FCS team. They now have an away game against La Tech in Shreveport and are still unsure about the location of their game against Arkansas. I wonder how the Aggie faithful feel about that ?

At the signing day event on Wednesday night Coach Mac mentioned this young man and his family. He said that in addition to getting his name on a letter of intent his dad sent a check for $37,000 for six Club Level seats. Now THAT is being excited.

WOW! Ft. Worth Star Telegram Give UNT Almost 1/2 Full Page of
Huff replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I was also pleasantly surprised at the coverage of North Texas. We got more ink than any school outside of the Big XII. That was nice to see. I agree that a letter or phone call to their sports department would be in order. -
UNT90 I am confused. The UNT athletic department web site says that they will have a live chat starting at 8:00 AM but also gives the opportunity to purchase a National Signing Day package for $9.95. I have no idea what you get for that amount. Maybe someone else can help........
