  1. For those of you who might get your TV through Charter, it will be shown on channel 281 - Fox College Sports Central.
  2. I'll bet there will be more people watching it from Apogee Stadium than are watching it on the "national" telecast of the game. With the Aggies Vs Alabama being shown at about the same time my guess is that only Ball State fans and a few North Texas fans who live too far from Denton to make it to the game will be watching this one.
  3. Going into the season the biggest problem that I saw was with our defensive line. We are smaller than most and my fear was that people would just line up and knock us off the ball. Ohio did exactly that and I believe others will, too. We can survive with the quarterback, offensive line, receivers, and running backs that we have. Unless something magical happens I do not see us being able to stop people from shoving the ball down our throats. That is going to make for a looooong season. I sure hope that I am wrong, but that is how I see it.
  4. I will predict North Texas 35 Idaho 17 with attendance of about 25,000. I think this one will be close until late in the third quarter when we start to pull away.
  5. Take the Under.......bet a bunch
  6. I hate to break the bad news to you guys but mine arrived in my mail box on Saturday. Maybe that explains another problem. Perhaps after having flown all the way to Azle, Texas to personally stuff my tickets into my mail box Scrappy was just too tired to make it to Apogee Stadium for the Kickoff event. Maybe next year.....
  7. I voted 1-3 with no bowl. I just don't see it happening this year with this group of players.
  8. Several weeks ago I was told that the game would be telecast back to Idaho but I am not aware of any coverage that folks in Texas would be able to get.
  9. Silver, it is funny that you mentioned Gene Pool. At one time he was our son-in-law. The marriage did not last but I always liked Gene - even if our daughter came to disagree with my assessment. I visited briefly with Gene at a football game last Fall. He is a Farmers Insurance agent in the Dallas area and seems to be doing just fine.
  10. Today's Ft. Worth Star Telegram reported that the coaches’ convention won’t return to Fort Worth anytime soon. San Antonio will host the event in 2014, ’16 and ’18. Houston gets it in 2015 and ’17. The convention hasn’t been in Houston since 2004, and association officials said Houston coaches lobbied to get back in the rotation. It once rotated between Dallas, Ft. Worth, and Houston but that has changed over the years. My first one was in San Antonio many years ago. Coming from Pampa to San Antonio was quite a change in temperature. We thought we were going to roast. Fortunately we were able to find some watering holes with great air conditioning.
  11. I voted 4 - 8 because I just don't think we have the talent to be any better than that.
  12. houstonmeangreen if you will contact Scotty Conley in the North Texas football office he can give you the information about where the team is staying. He is the one who makes the travel arrangements. My guess is that they will be staying just outside the greater New Orleans area on the night before the game. That is how it is usually - but not always - done.
  13. I'll take the under. We have had three winning seasons in the last eighteen years. I don't see 2013 being number four.
  14. I had also heard that bowling and/or beach volleyball would be considered. The plus about bowling is that there is no travel costs involved. Each team bowls its games on its home lanes and sends in the scores. That cuts the costs for that sport WAY down.
  15. If you don't mind spending a few extra dollars try the Commanders Palace restaurant in The Garden District. Lunch is certainly more affordable than dinner and the food is just as good. Right across the street is one of their above ground cemeteries. It is sort of interesting to wander around and see what is there before you eat. The most obvious place to eat in New Orleans is Café Du Monde just off Jackson Square for their beignets. The Court of Two Sisters in the French Quarter is good and if money is really no object do Breakfast At Brennan's.....but take your checkbook to that one.
  16. The head football coach at Flower Mound High School is Dane Johnson. He played at Southlake Carroll then at Texas Tech. He helped to coach the little kids baseball team that our grandson played on this Spring. One day I asked him if they had anyone who could play on Saturday. His first response was "No" but then he said "maybe one offensive lineman". That indicates to me that this young man is probably not going to get a lot of offers from Big Twelve type schools but might be a good pick up for some who do not play at that level. I noticed that Nevada was one of the schools that had offered a scholarship. Coach Johnson said that a good friend of his had just taken over as the head football coach there. That might - or might not - be a factor later on.
  17. This is a very serious surgery with some major recovery time involved. I had one similar to it a little over two years ago and it is not fun. The good news is that the problem with the aorta is fixed. If that thing bursts you have a very short time to say whatever prayers you wish to say before you meet your Maker. I hope his recovery goes smoothly for him - as mine did for me.
  18. Guys, are we sure that the Tulane game will be on TV ? I have not seen that information listed anywhere and the UNT athletic department web site does not show it as one that will be televised.
  19. cdizzle, you are correct, that one is not yours. Yours is better. I am sorry for the confusion but my wife says that getting confused is one of the things I do best. Keep up the good work.
  20. It is now being shown on the "Football Scoop" web site. It is some nice publicity for our school. Congratulations, cdizzle86 on a great job.
  21. I attended the games in The Cotton Bowl against Oklahoma State and UTA. Those were miserable experiences. I told the athletic department at that time that I would never attend another North Texas game that was played there and my feelings have not changed. If North Texas schedules a "home" game there my six tickets will be available - for free - to anyone who wants them.
  22. The athletic department web site shows that the game has been postponed due to the weather.
  23. I sent a note to a friend in the Athletic Department today. He said that the shift of the game to Halloween evening has been discussed but is not yet a done deal. He said that like in so many other cases we are waiting for some other dominoes to fall. The Pac 12 apparently has some decision to make that affects our game. I am not sure how that works, but apparently it is the case. The Conference USA athletic directors meet soon and the hope is that a decision can be made at that time. As soon as it becomes official - if it does - the athletic department will announce it.
  24. The Star-Telegram reported today that his dad had signed the form and he is now headed for Arkansas. Recruiting is a strange business.
  25. In this case I think UL refers to The University of Louisiana. We often call them Louisiana - Lafayette but they prefer to be called University of Louisiana or simply UL. Since this is an article about Sun Belt schools that would seem to make more sense to me.
