  1. Winning 20+ games is cool but it means nothing if they flounder in big moments. Defense was great as always but this program won’t take a step forward until they get some offense. Slow starts and missed opportunities killed this game in the first half. They did not capitalize.
  2. Is it just me or are we doing really well in the portal? So hard to tell but 247 has us 3rd in AAC for transfer rankings. Would be incredible if we could find a way into 2nd. How’s everyone else feeling?
  3. One thing I do find frustrating is how both UTSA and Texas State have now surpassed us. Texas state has been in FBS for 2 years, UTSA has had a program for like 10 years. It’ll only be a matter of time before Sam Houston figures it out (We also just took half of their defense and that’s probably going to be an improvement). I’m sure some will also say this doesn’t count because we were missing a lot of players but our depth should still beat their starters with how long we’ve been FBS. Maybe it’s because UNT is associated with losing added with both of those programs being newer and having more immediate success. Most likely culprit is transfer portal and NIL also helped them have immediate success. I’m sure Morris is building something but a couple more failed coaches and we either need to move down to FCS or double our giving in NIL. (and I hate both of those options) Proud of the guys for going out there and giving it their all though.
  4. Dang. Basically all the guys that decommitted were on the defensive side of the ball.
  5. This also hopefully prevents any portal entries from our guys. A quick, solid hire allows him to jump into recruiting transfers and our own players. Heck it may even help keep some players on the offense as well.
  6. I like this hire. Will it work out? No idea. But there’s connections, possible players transferring in with him, and a fresh young mind who has them ranked high in defense. If you’re not an SEC or Big ten school it seems hard to have a good defense at FBS schools in general.
  7. I can’t get over how the offense just dies all of a sudden. As soon as they lose (or can’t establish) a rhythm they’re obsolete for an entire quarter and a half. (Ex: Memphis when the defense actually held and made them go 3 and out multiple times before the flood gates opene; Army when they couldn’t do anything the whole game; ECU and the abysmal 3rd quarter; heck even against Tulane they were only up by like 3 before the end of the half and got super lucky with multiple short field positions due to mistakes). The statistics for the offense feels hollow. Super explosive but no capability to sustain a slow, clock bleeding drive. Which means short time of possession and longer time for the defense to be out there. I guess live by the air raid, die by the air raid. (And they’ve been consistently dying)
  8. Came here to make a similar post. This team is an FAU collapse away from not being bowl eligible. They should be 4-7 right now. The passing attack that is statistically great has had a lot of help from being down late in games when teams are playing prevent/soft coverages for big plays. We’re probably going to lose Chandler Morris in the portal and we’ll be in a worse spot next year. This is insanity.
  9. People who are downvoting firing Morris please make your argument. I really want to hear you out.
  10. We cannot be ok with this. Heads gotta roll.
  11. Cool. Everyone ok with firing Morris? Unacceptable.
  12. Cool. So IF they continue choking this game away and after last weeks blowout loss I’m ready to fire Morris. This team is falling apart with adversity and that’s a reflection on coaching. We can NOT be ok with this if we want to have a good program one day.
  13. Second TOD with a 4th and short. Morris doesn’t trust the defense but now we can’t trust the offense either.
  14. Only saw the play once but it looked like Harris lost forward motion. Initially surprised they didn’t call it dead in the backfield. Either way, defense stopped playing and that was awful.
  15. Unless there’s something else at work here… (second like has a puzzle piece) https://x.com/northtexaseagle/status/1860357703765205111
  16. Gonna be honest: I’m not aware how great either player was. I remember hearing the name Blair and seeing some comments that his injuries have really hurt us this year. A big concern going forward is how this impacts keeping the likes of QB Morris around. Dude will not want to play his senior year behind an even thinner O-line.
  17. Working in the medical field has caused me to frequently misspell “bowel” and “bowl”. Normally I catch it, but not today. 💩
  18. Fair point and the UTSA loss was also unacceptable. That’s true. What’s also true is 2-3 more wins is an improvement for any program. What would be awful though is if we drew Tx State in a bowl and lost.
  19. I know the second half of this year has been really disappointing but dang- we shouldn’t hope for losing to avoid a bowel game. Before the start of the season everyone would’ve been happy with more W’s. It shows improvement. It shows we’re building something and gives the coaches evidence for when they talk to recruits. Win out and win whatever bowl game, 8-5 might convince some transfers/recruits that could really help turn this team into something next year.
  20. Dude isn’t going to have an arm after this season. I swear I’ve seen him come off the field like 3 separate times holding it like it’s broken.
  21. Pretty much what the two comments above are saying: It’s a strong possibility that he’s got a case of hero ball. “I need to play amazing for us to win” mentality. Mistakes avalanche and instead of relaxing, you tighten up and are harder on yourself. Obviously that’s total conjecture based on my personal experience in sports. We all know he’s great and wants to win. Could totally be a nagging injury too, who knows. Hope he sticks around for another season with an experienced OL and a more consistent D. That’d be a treat to watch.
  22. All I know is they need to find a way to get pressure on the QB and help with the run. So many plays this year where the 3 down linemen are hung out to dry on a pass without blitz assist or anything. All that coming after being exhausted from trying to stop the run on multiple plays beforehand. I’d be a mix between overjoyed/angry if they fully make this switch and our defense starts playing consistently well. Can’t crucify him for every poor decision but that would be a glaring one on EM’s record moving forward.
  23. We can hate on him but I do think he makes solid points. It is somewhat helpful to have an outside perspective that isn’t drinking the green kool-aid. (Although it crosses a line if that person starts kicking us while we’re down-which I don’t think he’s done in this post). So this offseason/next year looks like the following: -give morris another year to see what he can build -hire a new defensive coordinator -hopefully hang on to Chandler Morris and Sheffield -pray for a healthy RB room Anything I’m missing? This year: Still think a bowl win gives the program some momentum going into next year. Maybe my expectations grew too large after that 5-1 start, but man there was a glaring need defensively that was not addressed. The offense has also just fallen off a cliff.
  24. Very true but it did get them to the next level which was a spot in the Big 12 and more of a consistent chance at a spot in the playoff and prime time games. You’re totally right some of them have completely fallen off but that’s also related to their competition going up.
  25. I think @Cougar King does make a good point though. Regarding the donor stuff- Boise never seemed to have had much money. They had a signature win against OU that vaulted them to national Cinderella status for so many years after. The other schools he mentioned just won out and got a signature bowel game with a signature win. With the news today of our athletic department expansion, it sounds like our facilities are consistently being improved. They’re top notch. Not sure who the huge donor is but somebody above mentioned that we have one. So maybe part of the answer is: a coach and administration who can put it all together on the field and get results? (Combined with some players that stick around and help build the culture?)
