He has not done anything at D1 level. Just average OC for 1 year at WSU.

Really??? You don’t think I am being fair? Seth was given time to grow into the position. Too much time. He learned too late unfortunately that the “Tee it High and Let it Fly.” Wasn’t going to work without a generational QB. He eventually learned to “Run The Damn Ball!” He also learned that the 3-3-5 defensive wasn’t going work without the right personnel. Switched to the 4 down lineman. Too late to make a difference. He was fired. Morris shouldn’t be given time to figure out the head coaching job! We need a coach that understands the importance of the job and all of the responsibilities. We do not have time for him to “grow” into the role!!!

We are undersized everywhere. At least you are plugging some gaps and have a chance to stop the run. then tell everyone you are recruiting bigger players and hitting the portal for some defensive size because you want to switch to that scheme. Play the best scheme for the players you have!!! Switch the scheme after you have loaded up the players you need.

Iowa State has P5 size with the lineman and LB’s. We don’t. Mazin had success in a 4 man front scheme and he was used as a blitzing linebacker. Not as one of 3 down linemen that everyone knows is rushing.

The 3-3-5 was created to stop pass happy Air Raid teams that don’t run the ball much at all. It requires big defensive linemen and big linebackers (we have neither) that can pressure the QB and stop the few runs that are attempted. Nobody runs a pure Air Raid system anymore. Everyone runs a hybrid system with more running to take advantage of the “weakness” the 3-3-5 has with stopping the run. So why do we think an outdated defensive scheme will work for us? Before the responses “Wait until we recruit or hit the portal.” We never were able to recruit for this system before and we couldn’t get any from the portal this year.

Morris is going to do to our football program what Benford did to our basketball program. We have 4 very talented running backs that will likely enter the transfer portal after this season so they can play for a team that knows how to utilize them. We kept the game at 3:00 to take advantage of the heat. Even as “cool” as it was, the Cal fans were wondering how their defense would hold up in “the brutal heat” against our run. 41 yards??? How many passing attempts were made? We should have done our best to wear them out. Our strength is our running game. Their weakness was the heat. Against the rest of the league, do your “Air Raid”.

I don’t discount those years. We weren’t at the bottom of the FBS defensively (slightly worse than 50%) and I hoped we would keep trending up but that didn’t happen and we went back down to the bottom of the FBS. Defense needs to improve quickly!!! Whether it’s scheme, players, coaches, or all three. I am tired of seeing other programs play better than us (see UTSA, UAB, FAU). Offense is exciting to watch but defense wins games.

The he defense has been this team’s Achilles heel for years. McCarney had one good year with a defense and won a bowl. Dodge years scored lots of points but couldn’t stop anyone. Littrell years were the same, no defense (3 man or 4 man fronts). Littrell started running the ball mostly to take advantage of our backs and to eat as much clock as possible to keep the opposing offense of the field. If Morris/Caponi don’t recruit better defensive linemen and LB’s, then we will repeat the mantra. “Explosive offense, but easy to score on.” Praying that our new defensive coaches can recruit…

Breaking News: Blinn LB CJ Garnett Commits to North Texas
Hookset replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
Hopefully he plays well for us and also is a pipeline for his little brother. -
I still think we missed Abu, but a great time for Sissoko to have a career game!!!
-
Sissoko has potential (0 points today) but Abu is ready now. We missed him inside today. Thankfully the perimeter shooting was on fire!!!

Well, Jones last 2 years I had season tickets almost at the upper level. After the 3rd of Bendord, I moved to the 1st row of the lower level. I still see so many seats available at the lower level.
-
So this is this year’s average attendance for all the responders that didn’t like attendance %. At least we are better than Rice…
-
But we still have lower attendance than 8 other programs including our rivals. It’s not just percentage of arena capacity. You can lookup attendance.
-
My answer to this is UNT is ranked 9th out of 10 Texas schools for attendance. I believe SMU was 7th. They only had a couple 100 more per game but we were still 9TH OUT OF 10…
-
We didn’t even make the top 12!?! I’ve been a season ticket holder since the Jones era. Benford destroyed MBB attendance. McCasland has definitely changed the program for the better, yet the attendance has not recovered. I know the administration has made an effort to get the students back (still only 200-300 at each game). What needs to happen to get the community back? Very little press coverage for the best defensive team in the country that has set the program record (2yrs in a row) for wins. This worries me that we will lose a great coach because of so little community support. How do we get the community back?

Am I the only one worried about the Defense?

Didn’t we run out of town the last DC that used a 3-3-5 scheme? How is this scheme different, and why shouldn’t I be concerned? -
Bottom of the middle third still doesn’t get me excited. It will be tough to win immediately. We don’t get extra practice time because we have a new offensive and defensive scheme. We get the same amount of practice as every other team. If we don’t win immediately, and our conference mates do, we will be back at the bottom scouring D2’s for a potential player. I have only been a season ticket holder since Dodge’s first year. I’ve seen a lot of bad ball and some decent ball. This coaching staff has to win now. This will be a difficult challenge.

I think we recruited some very nice players. I know a regime change so late probably had an impact on getting even better players. That being said, we were out recruited by 12 of the 14 schools that will be in our conference in 2023. That can’t bode well for us. We only did better than Tulsa and Charlotte. But I am so thirsty for the green Koolaid…

I went to both UNT games against Iowa. They do a chant where each corner of the stadium calls out a letter. Really sounded cool. We could do something similar with student section yelling U, northwest side of stadium yelling N, southwest side yelling T. Then entire stadium yelling Fight!!!
-
Changes this year. Colleges can offer as many scholarships as they need. Just can’t exceed 85 total on the team.
-
2 boards the size of the current south end zone in each corner of the north end zone. Provides a great view from the east or west side stands. Not 2 smallish boards.
-
If you look at the original plans, there is supposed to be a video board that is the same size as the current end zone video board in each corner. shortfall of funds meant smaller athletic center and only 1 video board in the end zone.
