  1. He has successful bulletpoints as a P5 OC on his resume already. Ultimately, it's dependent on his network.
  2. I'm not talking about anything NIL related until athletic departments inevitably take that over. In the now, I would start by cutting football support staff in half. I would push that money into basketball for recruiting, uniforms, in-season basketball marketing campaigns, pre-season meet the team night wit pyroworks, lazer shows, fog machines, giveaways, etc, basketball guest speakers for team/alum/fans, etc.
  3. For the record, I am not stating we need to disband the football program. All I am saying is that while we're sitting here with patience knowing the football program is spinning tires, why not dump some more funding into a sport where we have a chance to compete given the current landscape. The rules will not allow UNT football to prosper. It just isn't going to happen. That's very evident. If something takes place per rule changes that would be advantageous to UNT football then those funds could easily be restored. I never see that happening. Networks and major conferences will not allow it.
  4. So, hope is your plan. No forward thinking, innovating, rethinking collegiate sports, etc. Just.... hope. Hope has gotten us exactly where we are right now. Hope ain't it.
  5. DEFUNDING is not UTA. Does UTA have an underfunded football program? And I'm not advocating for abandonment. I'm advocating for resource allocation that makes regional and national sense.
  6. Well, yeah. I know. That's what I'm saying. That's the very comparison I'm making.
  7. And where's that going to get us?
  8. Not true.... at all. Maybe in your mind, it's this way. Maybe when you're watching ESPN highlights, it's this way. The reality is several G5 conferences have multi-year multi-million dollar TV contracts with major networks. Sure. it's peanuts in comparison to major programs, but it's a gigantic financial gap from FCS.
  9. Simp coaches speak in premeditated damage control. He is a prime example of it. No child of mine would go play for a loser like this. JS. He sounds pitiful.
  10. You think we have top 80 viewership? Top 80 donorship? Top 80 attendance? "Potential" will be weeded out. Those data points will be the drivers. I have no idea if we have top 80 in any of those. I feel like we don't.
  11. I don't understand how our own fans/alum or administration can't see this. Yeah, Yeah - I get it. This is TEXAS!!!!!!!! But I also get simple math and resource allocation.
  12. Good stuff. I think our size is OK. If Brice pans out, our size is really good. 4 players 6'9" or better that can all contribute. That's rare air even for a major program, especially for a mid-major. I don't mind having a couple 6'1" guards, so as long as they aren't getting heavy minutes together. On paper, Ross and his staff have done a really good job. Now, they have to gel it and it has to translate onto the floor.
  13. Judy at it again. She is adamant on watering down the G5 product out of spite.
  14. That's where his logic derails...... FCS football does not thrive. With the exception of some FCS dynasties, FCS athletics is largely ignored by the masses. If the TV networks would contractually lock in G5 programs into a stand alone playoff that financially made sense, then I am 100% for it. Until that fantasy guarantee comes around it is a bad idea.
  15. On the surface, not right now. Sure, I agree with you. But once the interest declines further the TV deals will shrink significantly. Then, we'll be on track to being almost as irrelevant. I give it a decade.
  16. Answer to his question: You don't. I wonder how many P5 OC job postings he's opened up and read.
  17. What part is the biggest drop in awhile?
  18. Good get. Seems like an auto 8/5 defensive guy from the jump. These are the pieces that allow teams to go from competitive to really good.
  19. There is no way the media machine allows this hypothetical new level of play to grow legs. And I agree with you, there is a market for it. But it will get minimal to no exposure and wilt away. The media is the driver of all things. Imagine the sports media marketing G5 athletics like they've been doing with women's basketball. Hell or high water, they're trying to make women's basketball a thing.
  20. UNT has a huge %. UT does as well. But unlike UNT, UT has a huge % of football nuts and t-shirt fans. Historical conservative universities, a la Texas Tech, does not. Baylor does not. SMU does not. Nutsack does not. Etc. They're there, just not in a sweeping %. I would say UNT and UT takes the cake in this race. Not a race I want to be a part of. And had I done better due diligence selecting a university from 1500 miles away while waiting to separate from the military, I wouldn't be. But I'm not a beta male and therefore can never be a t-shirt fan. Not in my DNA.
  21. Dunno, don't care. We ain't them. However, as for all resources into basketball, no. But a lot more, yes.
  22. Yeah... we need that protest photo reposted. THAT is the reason our athletic support sucks. When only 10% of your student body cares about sports to begin with you're set up to fail. Then when you give that 10% no reason to care about UNT sports you're destined to fail. Here we are, right in between suckitude and failure with very minimal room for error.
