Please Let it Be Bryan Harsin

You can't feast or famine in recruiting. It creates voids in the roster and talent gaps. I would rather consistently be 4th every year in recruiting rankings than be 2nd then 9th then 3rd then 10th. We have good players, for sure, here and there. We also have glaring holes at safety(s), nickel, linebacker, DL, QB, and IMO we either need Shorter to be a true perimeter #1 (bc he clearly has the talent) or we need one, badly. -
Who exactly is hiring the head coach?

Very unlikely WB is having any part in this hiring process outside of handing over his list of possible candidates. -
Gabe Brooks/David Smoak Segment About UNT Job
NorthTexasWeLove replied to jtm0097's topic in Mean Green Football
Yeah, it's common practice to give a coach the heads up of interest and to swing by. If that wasn't happening then they were in the wrong. But we out here actin like these coaches are the keepers of the gate or their pimp or something. I think that's old place realities due to the recruiting tactics of old. If HS coaches out there grinding axes (while also not looking out for the best interest of their own players) b/c they're butthurt then they need to put their ego on a shelf and hang up their whistle. -

JayD has a tip guy somewhere in the AD. But JayD also plays along with the game about how good things are or can be until it's beyond clear it's not working out. Probably so he can maintain that tip guy. So, IOW, he (and others) will laude this hire as a great hire that will do great things regardless of who it was or what their resume clearly states about them. With that said, I appreciate his fandom like I appreciate all the people on here. This is a small community, the only community, of diehard UNT fans. We need 10x the website traffic than we have to boost interest and fans. -

Then he's not a hirable coach... and we wasted 1.6M on firing Seth Littrell. Because Fuente is starting to feel a lot like Seth Littrell. -

JayD is going to say _____ is great, until, of course, it's not. People are who they are. I don't expect to see a boost in recruiting if he is the guy. And that's very unfortunate. -
Please, please... Hire a HC that emphasizes recruiting as THE number 1 priority of his coaching philosophy. It has to happen. We are too small and too slow. We will continue to be too small and too slow if we don't hire a HC that views his success through the lense of recruiting success. We can't drop the ball on this.

Who will be the next UNT Head Football Coach?

It's not about him doing 50 in home visits. It's about him, imo, not having closing ability for marquee recruits. It's about him not overseeing an excelling recruiting department. This hire has to hit. This hire has to have the ability to recruit at higher levels than what we're accustomed to seeing. Fuente basically held the recruiting at serve wherever he went or regressed. Not sure we can afford that, literally. -

We don't need another DC with no recruiting responsibilities. Hard no thanks. -

HC has his tentacles in everything. If he didn't drive recruiting home it's because he chose not to spend the time and commit his energy in and with that department. It ALL falls on the HC. He's either coaching it or allowing it. -

Fuente appears not to be a hungry recruiter, likes to be an offensive wizard, couldn't consistently maintain a developed QB, and has a vanilla personality. Any of this sounding familiar?js -

Seth was relieved in the late hours of Friday or Saturday morning. It's only Tuesday. Option 1 could have already said no thanks and they're working on option 2, or option 1 could have accepted and they could be ironing out details. We're not that far along. -

That's ideal. But for whatever reason or another, those are unicorns or working at blueblood programs already.
