  1. The mindset of softening up their conference to make things easier is exactly why they're in this predicament. Sounds like a very, very fitting place for smu and its alum... the path of least resistance.
  2. Sure. But, also, not sure. They have a stadium that seats 36k and change. They typically average around 85-90% capacity every season, which puts there always at #1 or #2 in attendance. In very meaningful games it's not uncommon for them to sellout the stadium here and there. I would call this promotion them just being forward thinking while continuing pretty dang good attendance. For the sake of comparison, we average around 60% capacity. 2 years ago we averaged just north of 50% capacity. In big games, we will get up to 80% capacity (25k). In our biggest of games (2 or 3 times), we will get up to 90% capacity (28k).
  3. I just hope to see Reggie Pegram's yards-per-carry vs Cal.
  4. I will always believe this is our problem. Not to rustle feathers, and I know Smatstrek is working on this, but we need to double the size our business and engineering schools. That's where the meat is at.
  5. No doubt. It does. But are we even included in that? I will say that the tide is turning, or maybe has already turned a bit. From the Dodge years, tremendously. I'll give you an example. I listen to the Cover 3 podcast pretty frequently. Last week they were going over their personal W total projections vs Vegas for PAC teams. When they got to Cal, 2 out of 3 on that podcast didn't give Cal the automatic W vs UNT. That's different. In the past, even in the Dickey era, we were typically considered auto dubs vs those type teams. Clear and unquestionable improvement. Does anyone care? Has our attendance reflected that? Season ticket sales? Donors? Media coverage in our market? I have zero quantifiable data, but I'd say probably not. For all the flaws of SL, he did elevate our program to respectability. Again, there has to be more to it than winning. If I'm in that UNT athletic department, I'm studying what UTSA's marketing team did in Traylor's first offseason (spring and summer of 2020) and what they did after his 1st season as HC to catapult them while creating fomo type momentum.
  6. Definitely. Does our alum base care? Does our market care about UNT? I can make a solid case for no to both. In short, are we chasing our tails? All the while with the inception of NIL and bigger facilities has athletic departments asking for more and more and more and more.
  7. I think there are other ways to elevate a brand outside of winning. Winning gets the attention, sure. But there has to be the shiny object readily available that holds the attention. Otherwise you'll be Western Michigan under Fleck. Or a good example of this is Ohio/Toledo. Ohio and Toledo are staples of the MAC. When they are good, they're really good. When they're not good, they're still 7-5. Yet, no one seems to care. Why? Because they're MAC schools? Well, we were just CUSA schools. Now in a diluted AAC. I think there is more to it than simply winning, though winning is a necessary variable.
  8. Of course. Wash his hands of it like the NCAA washed their hands of it. So many of these buffoons have the cushiest jobs in the world... sitting around shrugging shoulders, "I dunno."
  9. Not a fan of the stack. In base it has soft edges therefore the D is always having to walk up a 9 pre snap and slide over creating a dummy at DE...a slender LB playing DE. Or the DCs that run this think they are cute and can "disguise" everything and send people on snap. DCs fall into a pattern of who they like sending and offenses study and gameplan too. They pick up on tendencies and run away from the blitzer or throw into his void. It's a small defense. A vulnerable defense. Sure, should be better pass defense in those logical passing downs... in theory. Just too many potential problems in base and too much what hoped to be controlled chaos when constantly having to adjust. Just not a fan. Be great at something. Run D or pass D. But it has to be something. Otherwise, you're good at nothing.
  10. They will never release that information. Self inflicted embarrassment doesn't seem self serving. Though they should, so accountability can be put forth. Season tickets sold and donor levels outside of the W/L are the 2 most important parts of the AD's job (3rd would be building). In modern UNT athletics Rick set a precedent by never sharing. Other ADs to follow realized he never disclosed that information and held his job for years. They have followed suit.
  11. Some recruitment threads with unfriendly takes are sometimes warranted. A 245lb DT with offers from Savannah State and UNT requires questioning. Sure, this metaphorical recruit might have popped out to one of our recruiters and could work out as a project kid. But when UNT starts to systemically recruit these players then it needs questioning. It must receive questioning. The couple bad takes on this current QB commit are just bad takes.
  12. Yeah, in a world of censorship let's censor more. People have rights to their opinions. If urban planner boy thinks we should be taking recruits away from ATM and UT then that is his opinion. A misguided and terrible one, but his opinion. And he's entitled to it. Let's just leave well enough alone. Message boards aren't always for rainbows and butterflies.
  13. I think it's that urban planner kid.
  14. It's just realism. And with realism, there are negative and positive parts to it. This just happens to be a positive part of that realism. I have been around TXHSfootball a time or two and I am very familiar with this QB. This is a big time grab. People need to get excited about this. I suspect no more peer type G5 type offers given that he is committed to us, but I do suspect the typical middle of the pack P5 regional programs to give him a sniff.
  15. He will get more offers. That is a matter of fact. Kid can ball. Really, really ball. I am genuinely surprised the likes of Tech, Okie State, KState, Mizzou, etc aren't sniffing around already. And, sure, they might have their QB situation already settled in with their guy. I have no idea. But he is a day 1 competitor for QB1 at UNT.
  16. I am very aware of that. Emmitt here likes to constantly take shots at Aune. He takes those shots because Aune took Bean's spot on the field and eventually sent him packing to sit on a bench elsewhere.
  17. Dang you still caught up on doodoo bean. He wasn't it here at a middlig G5 program. He wasn't it at cellar dweller P5 program. He ain't it. Time to live with it.
  18. ULL, Tulsa, UNT and ArkState are his bigger offers. As to why, I have no idea. Kid can play the game at a very high level. He's the kind of kid that can come in and be a freshman starter, granted with bumps along the way, to a very productive upperclassmen years. Oh, and middling "P5" programs will sniff around. It's inevitable. Glad to have him on our side and here's to hanging onto him.
  19. That's a pull. Congrats to everyone involved. GMG
  20. The leftovers of the PAC will not dictate that status. Plus, the media is already planting the seed of further breakaway, the "big2". None of this ultimately matters. It will be 2. When ACC schools are able, a select few will join those 2 forces. Some currently in the "big2" aren't safe either, imo. There are substantial moves to be had. All roads lead to 2 major conferences. The PAC is just entertaining to see how the dominos fall that will inevitably lead to their demise. I think if the big12 can keep momentum, they might be able to separate themselves as the +1 to the big2, but there will still be a very wide gap in exposure, money, resources, etc.
