We did. And UNT + UAB + Utah Valley are THE reasons these changes are happening. They want ratings. That is 3 teams in a NIT Final 4 that do not draw widespread ratings. They're trying to ensure that scenario never happens again. When 1 makes it. It's a cute story. Let's pat them on the head. When low rating brands dominate the slots then it's problematic in their eyes. I wish more coaches would put them on blast for this obvious money grab. But coaches this effects most don't want to burn bridges because they're hoping to leave their current address and get paid 1 day. Same type stuff in football. Spineless men.

Of course people think Utsa has supplanted smu as our biggest rival. All smu does is whip our ass.

I was going to make a thread about this very opinion after last week's game vs Tulane. I hesitated to. And I will hesitate to outright state it. Fine has a body of work that speaks for itself. I didn't want recency bias to impede my opinion. I think we need to let the full 2 years play out of him starting to really pin it down. Rogers is certainly off to a good start. And to think, we are debating our current starting QB as potentially being the best QB in school history, and the staff started an FCS guy over him. It's worth the note due to how unbelievable it is.

Of course it's on the coaches. But people on this board and people in the athletic department will spin this as being OUR fault. It's OUR fault players leave. It's OUR fault we can't recruit well enough. It's our fault attendance is garbage. It's all our fault. We have to do our part, as they say.

The argument could easily be made that the opposing offense hits cruise control when up 3 or 4 touchdowns in the second half. Then when they realize that it's time to go they...

I said no such thing about his availability. But if we're going there, coordinators are available often mid-week all throughout the country. No idea if he has ever went in front of a mic. I don't care either. I don't need to hear him defend his trash product. And coaches are egomaniacs, so of course they believe in their philosophy and certainly themselves. Doesn't make it less shit. Also, never underestimate what a coach will say to deflect blame, particularly in a private setting. And there are coaches all over the country on cruise control at any given time. Sometimes the acceptance of failure is more humbling than the failure itself. The one's that accept the failure are usually the ones that have their university held over a barrel and will take as much scratch as they can until the institution can afford to let them go. Shit, Dan Mccarney was a shell of himself when we hired him. Damn near a ghost of himself when we fired him. He would taken 6 more Portland State beatings and signed a contract extension at years end if he could've. I've seen more excitement and energy from a sloth climbing down a tree to take a shit than what I saw out of Seth Littrell his last 18 months here. As for late starts. Guy was hired December 13th, sure. That's pretty late. But he then chose to basically neglect the portal. I only say that BECAUSE HE TOLD US THAT. Say what you will... this defense is very bad. Historically bad. And we're only just in the meat of it. We very well could give up 1400 yards and 100 points these next 2 weeks. If Eric Morris values HIS job, he will fire Caponi. He will bring in a more experienced DC. He will value recruiting that side of the ball. He will regard the portal as an instrument for success. Or...he'll be gone in 2025.

He has to be, right? He's at the apex of his career earnings and he knows it. I couldn't imagine what he says in staff meetings trying to secure another year. I am certain he is 1000000000% pointing fingers at assistants and/or players.

To do it now helps tremendously. We have a 1st time FBS coach because we hesitated on the firing of our previous HC. The window shrank and we settled. Coordinators get fired mid-season all the time and every year. It's clear communication to the fanbase. It also gives the HC a lot of time to find a very good replacement. Then it gives the new DC time to find good assistants that actually have on the field coaching experience.

What can we do? Not give him another contract. Bring in a DC that has some skins on the wall. Eric Morris' job relies on him righting this wrong. I can't possibly imagine it being much better in a year. We we still be in the bottom quarter of defensive statistics in the conference and triple digits nationally. Unless we just kill it in the portal, defensively. Two problems with that... Morris has directly said he's not a huge fan of the portal. And air raid coaches have a very long history of not prioritizing the defensive side of the ball in recruiting. If we think freshmen will save this D, you're wrong.

The stack will continue to bleed rushing yards to the opponent. Our recruiting has never been good enough to run this system. Zero reason to believe that it will start. It requires unicorns at the 3 safety positions. A hammer at the Mike and an immovable force at the nose. Real athleticism must be everywhere else due to the space being played in due to the scheme. And there is zero room to hide the lack of athleticism at the DE spots or the 2 OLB spots. Space is the name of this defense. You have to be able to play effectively in it. There are bluechips that can't do it with consistency.

AND the offense is setting us up for failure in first half of games. When the D is soooo bad the offense can't continue being 1st half no shows. 10 points scored in the the 1st half of last 2 games. That's going to extend an already really bad defense and make them work more than anyone wants to see. Yes, the defense can't spot the opposition 31 first half points. But the offense has to carry their weight and keep the D off the field. Also, Caponi gotta go. I wasn't here during the Dodge years. I got on board right after. But this is the worst defense I have personally seen UNT ever field. That dead weight has to be let go. To add, 475k is grotesque misuse of funds. I'm not sure how it's allowed to continue even at this point, nevertheless giving him a second year.
