If they (SoMiss) goes to the First Responder Bowl in the Cotton Bowl...That will be a disgrace.
-
Yeah, huh? I thought this was a conference tie-in? Or use to be? Or is an alternate bowl game? What gives? So, Boise in the only team announced right now? Is this even a MWC bowl tie-in???!!
-
Well, to some extent I do agree with you. But AD's do have some sort of say to their conference commish. They don't just throw the names up against a wall and whoever sticks wherever is where they're sending teams. There is an extreme amount of elbow rubbing and dirty handshakes to maneuver yourself where you want to be, specifically for the more premiere bowls. It happens here too, just less dirty and political.

I would say $1200 is being frugal for two people. -

There isn't a flight for $400. Does WB have super secret person booking his flight for him? Personally, I am seeing 0 direct flights. The cheapest is a two stop flight for $580. A 1 stop flight will run you around $630. -
Just goes to show, 7-5, 8-4, 9-3, 10-2, and unless we're the highest ranked 11-1/12-0 none of it matters. We are destined to this. Eager to see where Frenso and Boise goes as 10 and 11 win teams not getting the NY Bowl nod. Utah St got to 10 in the reg season and is going to ABQ. It's just mind blowing.

Just so we can keep them organized here...
-
Very unlikely. There would still be 45 or 50 former "P5" universities that would be upset and would make it a political point of that not happening.
-
I mean we have, but the reasonings were steered in different directions. Doing it this way would be far and away different than what and why for UNT has done in the past.
-
That's definitely a risk worth taking. Most G5's can hardly afford it as it is, and will certainly in the near future not be able to in the near future. If we can rip the amateur status out from under the P5 or at least 25 or 30 of them and make them go away and be what they are, semi pro's, then do it. The remaining 100 of us will maintain and that would setup grounds for huge realignment.

I really didn't look at all the INDY schedules outside of Army and UMASS tbh. But, I don't have the answers. I don't get paid to have the answers. Again, if we're happy here to have what we have and do what we're doing and treading water, then tread on I guess is all I have to say. I will say I did like the SMU, LaTech, and SoMiss home slate we had this year.
-
Are you following me? Something needs to be done to scrap the current system. The "P5" universities aren't going to do anything. So, the obligation falls on the "G5" universities to push the envelope. And if it needs to be pushed in court, lawyer up. Or is that too extreme too?

That champ game also generates about 30 million dollars, alone. Glad we're nice and comfy here in CUSA with our seasonal 200K.

2018 New Mexico Bowl Info on Utah State
NorthTexasWeLove replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I have a 1 out of 3 amount of faith in us beating a winning team. We haven't played a 10 win team since FAU last year and well, there is no need to recollect those final scores... HOWEVER, we have played like 2 or 3 10 loss teams. And won by like 6 to 9 points, combined. So, we got that going for us.- 46 replies

2018 New Mexico Bowl Info on Utah State
NorthTexasWeLove replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
That is setup in order of overall ranking. We were 3rd in the west behind UAB and LaTech. LaTech and us have same record they beat us. SoMiss and us have same record we beat them. That puts us as #3. As far as CUSA goes as a whole, we're not better than their like 6th place team...or at least the scoreboard said we weren't. We're probably 4th or 5th best team in CUSA, give or take.- 46 replies

DRC: Source confirms -- UNT headed to New Mexico Bowl
NorthTexasWeLove replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
WB shouldn't listen or do anything requested of this current coaching staff if he has sniffed a wind of them dipping out. Why would he? He kind of puts knee pads on for him for basically anything and everything down to changing the schedule and forcing us to go 1 and 1 with Liberty. Eff that. This staff, if these rumors are true, should not have had any say in this bowl. -
Dang man...I thought you were smarter. U. M. A. S. S.
-
Why? Why do you say that? What takeaway makes you believe it. I'm sure you are referring to home schedule? But I would swap UMASS with us if it means we call our shots moving forward. They hosted both USF and BYU...and they are in Massachusetts. We are a centralized location in the country. I have little doubt we would not be able to form a respectable schedule.
-
I get what you're saying, but I'm not comparing us to Army...you are. Army is a program for the sake of having a program for their academy students. They know they are at their plateau. They sort of have no choice given their weight/height restrictions put on the academy schools that they have to at least try to adhere to...hence the triple option. I also think Army chooses to play these schools rather than it being dictated to them. I know that they and Lafayette are long time rivals from long ago. I am not sure as to why it would be difficult to schedule. Would we be less attractive as an Independent program than a CUSA program? Could we keep all of our currently scheduled opponents or are those games only schedule in lieu of us as a CUSA program? Could we not go around the state of Texas, Louisiana, OK, Arkansas and help fill their OOC schedules for us to create an actual schedule? I am trying to see the (football) positives of staying in comparison to leaving. The only one I see and that you guys point out here is the guaranteed 8 games on the docket. But also the 200K-ish TV dollars for being associated with CUSA. If this is where we are as a program, then so be it. I guess for whoever is going to New Mexico, enjoy. I may try to make it out myself.

Army is indy.
-
That's NMSU. Not UNT. And there's only 2 the first year going into this. There will eventually need 3 or 4 though for sure. OK, I'll stop, let's just sulk in our impotence. We are good at that, after all.
-
That is exactly what would have to happen. As I've stated on this in the past few weeks, we'd have to set this up moving forward starting now in regards to scheduling. Then inform CUSA of a 20XX departure and make sure all ducks are in order to finalize at least 3 or 4 straight years of only have to fill in the schedule, not create a full schedule. As far as the money, let's be real, it's already nothing and will be less and less sooner rather than later. If we schedule properly, we will get exposure each and every week, or most weeks just by default of our opponent. We will not have a conference championship to play for and I can live with that, especially if this works. But we will not be denied a bowl game when we get to 6 wins. We are in a format that is not sustainable. We do not have enough buy in from our fans to continue building upward, and we have just about nil TV money. Let's say we open up the 2022 as an Indy team with... vs SMU at Colorado vs Mizzou at Memphis vs Texas State at Ole Miss vs Arkansas State at LaTech at Iowa State vs Texas Southern at Virginia vs Texas Tech That is a slate that would create great attendance, buzz, and not to mention being able to recruit to this kind of schedule as THE independent program of Texas. The difficult part of this would be having to create same scenarios for other sports, but it's doable. It's a lot of work, but if calculated and done with diligence and can be done. People get paid good money to make things like this happen. Also, in time, a schedule like this with success would make us relevant. If a team like us gets to 11-1 with this schedule there is no way we do not fall into the top 8, maybe even 10-2. I say 8 because the playoff will be at 8 by 2022/2023.

They should be equally important. In this case, having a strong fan base showing support of a program that very well may be losing their coach would be promising in reassuring the players, fan base themselves, candidates eye balling our program, etc. Having us play in a practical radiation danger zone with just about 37 people in the stands will do all of the above, but the exact opposite.
