  1. If this is what our next DC is pulling (which is close to several salaries for FBS HCs) we damn well not be on the job training this fool. You pay that in CUSA, best be having a top notch defense. I think it may be more wise to funnel more money into the recruiting budget so we can wash that excuse away. Better that than doubling every coaching staffs salary in CUSA then STILL get people pointing to recruiting as a legitimate excuse as if it's not a part of the staffs job.
  2. Make a winner then they will have attendance. UNT alum have time and time again showed up in numbers to support this program. But, they are not going to continue to show up and be embarrassed in every. single. big. game. That has been the theme. Ratchet up marketing to pull a big crowd....Pull said big crowd (record setting usually)....And lose in front of record setting big crowd. Rinse. Rather. Repeat. This program, if we're being honest with ourselves, does not deserve another big crowd until they can again prove they are winners.
  3. I too had us at 8 on the basis of it being like a 2017 season where the offense has to pick up the defense all year long. Sheesh, I was wrong.
  4. We are getting bent over financially by this coaching staff and by every team on the field with any resemblance of a pulse... And in typical apathetic North Texas fashion, our fans doing what they do best...
  5. I'm not willing to write SL off either. But I'm not going to chalk up needing to invest more and more to have success. We've invested the most, and will not even have a bowl appearance to show for it. We have recruited better than UNCC in all 4 of SLs classes. We had the better team, in person and on paper. And coaching blunders allowed us to fall, as many times before. That Austin Peay coach was like 16-24 while there. He's clearly buddy-buddy in the coaching community and slipped and fell into that job with recommendations. As for the Bama comment people are in love with... 1) let nicky satan lose to the likes of ULM in year 4 with an Alabama record setting QB. Wives and dogs would've been hiding everywhere in Alabama. 2) we are not Bama and SL sure as shit is not Nick Saban.
  6. So you think UNT is historically sub par because of the comments of the .05% of alum who care and not the absolute apathy that set in into the 99.5%? I....see? Good programs, even in down and troddened years, don't lose to the likes of UNCC under a 1st year head coach from Austin Peay. It's absolutely insulting to suggest such. We have the record setting QB. We have outrecruited UNCC even in SLs first classes. We took the 2 score lead into 4th quarter. We suck/ed. And this admin keeps piling up sandbags and people are legitimately making excuses for it. It's inexcusable.
  7. This thread is lunacy.
  8. The quit crapping on classes before they play. It's the direction you are getting ready to take. If that's not the direction you were going, then good. Don't. Because it's certainly not about them. Oh, and the point still stands. We are not going to be very good at OL or DL unless we make a philosophical recruiting change. The writing is on the wall, as history suggests with the current signed/committed players.
  9. What am I assuming? I have frustratingly stated that things will not be looking promising again until 2022 granted there is not a push for JUCO/transfers. You come in and second that opinion in a different form of verbiage in a light that makes it seam OK to be 'meh' until 2022. What am I assuming here?
  10. Yes, offers lists. Their offer lists in large part are not very good at OL/DL. Yes, some kids come in and outperform their expectation. I hope they all do. That'd be great and a pleasant surprise. Also, quit hiding behind the, "they're just kids" crap for an excuse to mute people dissatisfied by this poor season and the probable season to come. I'm not ever going to directly single out a kid, whether he has played or not, on the basis of being upset at poor coaching, development, preparation, recruiting, motivation, etc. I know where the onus lays.
  11. Ahhh, yes. Be patient. Time will get us settled in...It might take until year 7, but it will happen...Maybe...Hopefully.
  12. Yes, so some concepts of it. He pulls a linemen and inserts usually a hybrid safety to run a stack 3-3 defense.
  13. We are not top dollar? This doesn't even make sense. Your analogy applies to everyone, everywhere. But, we actually pay the most money to have our coaching staff coach our team. The most money should, by minimal standards, get us to 6-6 bowl eligibility year in and year out. Arguing the basis of that is just being a SL homer without the willingness to look at our situation with realism.
  14. Kansas State used it as a model for years. And heavy doesn't mean an entire class, but absolute needs.
  15. Pay top dollar, expect top product. Pretty simple.
  16. A singular down year? In your opinion, are we going to have another down year next year? Or the next?
  17. Wow, well for starters, this young lad is better...apparently. And for 1.1M less. Yay us!
  18. That's just hindsight thinking. Of course we hit on Fine and Bussey, two very productive players. Their productivity does not match their rating and offer sheets. Recruiting has been poor. Defensive recruiting has been abysmal. I don't want to say coaching is suspect because we really do not know who does what as if it's some sort of secret, but I think it's safe to say we can lean to the idea of coaching being suspect easier than we can it being stellar. And I don't even care about a single isolated year. Programs go through ruts, it happens. The frustrating thing is that we can call is a mini downward spiral, most would agree on that front. I just don't see how the bleeding is going to stop moving into 2020 and forward.
  19. Yes, which I singled him out when I was talking about this after the SoMiss loss I believe. He has the size and offer sheet that is needed to have success. The others, not. at. all.
  20. Again, not advocating for his firing, at all. But what I am doing is just pointing out the obvious issues on the team while pointing out the obvious needs and lack of attention in recruiting in certain areas on this team. SL will definitely have a losing season this year which makes 2 of 4. The D, I find it hard to believe will see a surging improvement next season while breaking in a new QB. A very probable losing season, 3 of 5. We got him on the hook for at least another year until firings even are considered, unfortunately. So if our future QB's aren't saving the jobs of several coaches and getting other coaches promoted as Mason Fine has done (which is probably safe to assume), then we will not have a QB to be able to mask all of our team problems moving forward. I just don't see significant improvement with the roster setup as it is in either 2020 or 2021. Debbie down me all you like, but I am just simply calling it as I see it. Again, we must go heavy JUCO to fill crucial needs to contend for a bowl game next season and probably the year after. If the staff stays stubborn and refuses to do that, expect 2020 and 2021 to be losing seasons, three in a row and 4 of 6.
  21. Yeah, and yet some people keep pointing to our recruiting successes getting ready to boost the program back up. To that, how?
  22. Pretty sure he indirectly does this with some frequency. After losses he often times conjures up the words effort and execution and sets those words on the doorstep of the players.
  23. He doesn't need to be replaced, right now. Never said such. But what I did say is that 2020 & 2021 will be rough. So, stem up whatever you want from that.
  24. I'm not asking for SL's job. Others are. But to your question, there are several out there.
  25. There is not quality at OL or DL in either class. And I'm not having all of the answers. I'm just pointing out the problems. It's not my job to come up with solutions.
