  1. Yeah. But I would liken Penn State to ATM rather than Baylor. Baylor = Pitt. ATM = Penn State. But I get the sentiment, and I wouldn't put it past Waco or College Station papers stating that about UNT. They clearly don't feel threatened by UNT or otherwise they would have already. Those meddling P5's are all about keeping their foot on top of the heads of the drowning at all costs.
  2. I think being in the MWC paints UNT in the same picture as SMU and UH. Being in our current position clearly puts a peg or two under those programs as far as perception goes. To note, it also puts us squarely a peg above the current Texas CUSA members. And given the ebbs and flow of the MWC vs AAC, it could put UNT above all of the G5 Texas programs for recruiting purposes. And if you're not getting better, you're getting worse. And there is no valid or verified invitation or even an actual legitimate rumor of one. But that's on UNT's administration to get that rumor buzzing with real conversations with the MWC office. Reach out and test the waters and see if there is some valid mutual interest there.
  3. I mean, I guess. I would rather play ULL over Rice. I would rather play Arkansas State over UTEP. I would honestly rather play ULM than UTSA. Those games are all more appealing to me, the selfish fan. The idea of getting back at UTSA has already worn off right when we beat them a few times in a row. Now, it's just, meh. I mean having those Texas teams in the conference is why everyone is so giddy about CUSA, right? I just don't see it.
  4. Well, it was a regional conference within this region. Assuming you live in this region, of course you will see SMU, UH, Ark, UT, OU merch sitting in stores. UH and SMU are on a better platform than UNT so it's natural you will see their stuff. It has nothing to do with the SWC, but more to do with the current alignment. And for decades UNT had horrible merchandising licensure, but is improving.
  5. The whole SWC thing is overplayed, outdated hyperbole. The losers of that conference (UH, Rice, SMU) try to keep it relevant because those are their glory days. But it's irrelevant and we should stop giving it credence.
  6. Crazy to think that where we were is better than where we are. It's almost starting to be turned into an insult to the Belt to claim ourselves as the Belt 2.0.
  7. It's speculative at best. His stature and his geographical location played equal roles. If he was at Allen, Katy, SLC, Austin WL, Broken Bow, etc. he would've been plucked away by whoever. But because of the nature of his competition, size of school, AND stature he was considered a fringe player and a risk scholarship offer. The height quotes by coaches is just them saving face vs their own fan base as to why he's not playing with X logo on his helmet. But there's more to it than that, always is.
  8. The absolute disrespect. Is it unquestioned that a guy like Cole Kelley was at a place like Arkansas because he was 6'6" even though he had rocks between his ears? Is it unquestioned that a kid like John Stephen Jones is at a place like Arkansas based solely on who is granddaddy is? After all, he's only 5'10", 175-pounds.
  9. I feel sorry for the owners to some degree. But they'll cash out by force and UNT will be better off for it with whatever initiative or design they are trying to pursue in that space. I love privately owned restaurants and I eat at them far and away more often than I do corp places, but I am on UNTs side here for I want the university to always be looking for ways of improvement.
  10. This writer acts as if these CUSA, AAC, MAC, MWC programs chose this path rather than it being politically chosen for them in the name of greed. These P5 columnists/journalists/etc. only live in the confines of their cushy bubble. Then they have the audacity to look down on the 'peasants' as if they chose their current destination.
  11. I would imagine this is happening sooner rather than later. Makes 0 sense for them to linger.
  12. The club? Your bastard of a team is coming to Denton in a couple months. Not to mention a 10-year H/H with SMU. I think we've made out fine. The real club doesn't have the likes of UH and SMU. The real club is the one UH begged to get in but was denied.
  13. P6. Cute. Apparently not P6 enough for Army. And it makes sense for Temple to rethink it's alignment.
  14. Ohhhh, so UH's AD makes AAC decisions. Cool story, bro.
  15. They were indy until the 2015 season. By this, they could sneak up on opponents and could also cherry pick their schedule. Now that they're in a conference having to play the same opponents on a consistent basis their success has seen a markable decline (11-2 [first year in AAC], 9-5, 7-6, 3-10) and will probably continue downward. Army currently has the luxury Navy used to have. Again, if both programs, with their current recruiting restrictions, were both in an actual conference they would be swapping decent recruiting classes/decent on-the-field success. Georgia Tech had that engine humming under Johnson because of being able to recruit whoever he wanted. Positive note for the service academies: A couple weeks ago Trump announced that he is attempting to pull the 4-year commitment to their respective branch of service until after their professional playing days. If that gets approved, that will be highly beneficial for them.
  16. It's not about other programs maybe offering...It's about writers close to the program stating that he (Renfro) is either 1) For depth or 2) Another option. He's getting sniffed out for practice depth and clipboard holding.
  17. Similar to another Renfro post, the key word in this write up is "next option." And again, I hope young Kade is reading into those words.
  18. Their ranking, much like ours as far as nationally, is where it's at based on quantity and not quality. Their average composite is basically dead on where it was last year. They will be leap frogged by everyone in conference and end up at 10th in the Big12. They currently have the lowest average composite in that conference and less than a point higher than UNT's average composite. This is not "big things happening", but rather things just happening, quicker. And your evidence is anecdotal at best. They were beating out the opposition for players in last years class as well, or at least according to 247. These players are mostly fillers though that would be nice special team guys at a place like Okie State or TCU and starters at KU or UNT.
  19. He needs to understand what these "P5s" are trying to do in adding him. The context word or phrase in this write up that was written by a person who covers OSU is "for depth." Hopefully he keeps that in mind.
