Now We Know Why Cal Wasn’t In The Top 25....
NorthTexasWeLove replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
I meant, and though this sounds weak to say in hindsight, is that they will not end this year in the top 25. Not even close. I'll be sure to bring this thread back up after week 12. 😉 -
Win out.... Is this season still a disappointment?

They will struggle to go bowling. They're bad. -

Well, Emmitt, then give a damn opinion of your own. Do you have one? We are ALL dying to hear it. -

Shorter had 3 drops. One for a TD. One for a 4th Q first down. Griffin had a 4th Q drop. Shorter dropped a 1st half, wide open, touchdown. Our check downs don't know what they are doing...you are not supposed to be 5 yards behind the LOS. That'a asinine. And I've been to enough UNT games in the SL era to know that they call slow developing routes WAY TOO MUCH at very inopportune times. They also ran the ball when it was time to throw the ball too much. This nitpick might be nitpicking too much, but they are paid hundreds of thousands of dollars. Look at their D, and give your dang 4 year starting QB the chance to audible into a better play which is something I rarely see Fine do, if ever. This was a complete wasted opportunity and should have resulted in an easy W. Cal, overall, is a bad football team. -

Cal will not be in the Top25. They...suck. We blew both of our feet off with a 10 gauge in this game and tried to play keep up on stubs.- 75 replies

Cal is 7-5 at absolute best. They will be .500 in conference play and beat 3 teams like us or worse. They have a bad SEC team next week that will more than likely pistol whip them because their offense IS that bad. -

329 yards of offense with multiple drops and miss thrown balls for both TD's is not going to be observed as credit by me. If you want to pop a lightbulb up your ass and feel giddy, then by all means.- 670 replies

Where? Cal might be the most anemic offensive team we play ALL year including all of our CUSA foes. That is a horrible offense. Offensively, we were flat in the 1st quarter and put ourselves in another hole. This was a piss poor effort by coaches AND players for 1.5 quarters and it's all Cal needed. What a disgusting loss. -

What an ugly, just, ugly game. This Cal defense is good, not as advertised, but good. UNT, again, came out flat and lost the game in the first quarter. Does SL even talk to his dudes and get them juiced up before kick? Or does he do his Ben Stein impersonation that we always hear? -

I saw nothing. The camera was zoomed in. But there was not a check down so that tells me the back stayed in to help block because it was deep and slow developing routes. Wait...Did you play? -

You, like I, do not know the play that was called. Because we didn't see the route tree. But history tells us if there's not a check down charlie floating around 4 yards behind the LOS that it's a slow developing route combo. On 3rd down, why call for that kind of combo/route tree when you probably know pressure is coming and there's only 9 yards to the line to gain. Give your players a chance for YAC. Give your players a chance. Or let's just keep doing what we're doing for 10 points and not change our tendencies. -

The classic 3rd & 24 conversion. Reffett is garbage. This D is doodoo. -

I am tired of the every route tree has to be a deep shot or a check down. It's nauseating. Give him an outlet. It was obviously a designed sprint out to the right so the OL is going to flow that way and leave a man on the backside exposed. Where was MF's First down outlet or his backside route. -

No. I forgot what that sarcastic gif was about. My attempt to be funny...sad clown humor. However, go dig up my comments on this pitiful defense back in April/May/June/whatever. Our saving grace today that this isn't a 30 point game is that Cal sucks, bad. They're offense is about as anemic as ours right now. -

The classic throw 25 yard throw out of bounds on 3rd & 9. Love it. Why are we paying this staff. I am sorry, but this is awful. And the Cal defense is overrated. A good offense, no a decent offense with a decent QB will mulch them up. I don't care what happened last week @ Washington. Color me unimpressed. We have left 10-14 points off the board and a boatload of yards. And we're merely just a directional school trying to find our way according to the power that be. -

Fire Shorter. I don't care how great he looks in pads. He sucks if he can't catch. Sit him. -

Trick play, end around reverse, etc. etc. would be good for a spark here to get this 4th quarter really going in our favor... I'll hang up and listen...Thanks. -

YES...let's come out of a quarter ending timeout and let's check it down on 3rd and 7 for a negative 5 yard gain. YES!!!
