  1. That's just hindsight thinking. Of course we hit on Fine and Bussey, two very productive players. Their productivity does not match their rating and offer sheets. Recruiting has been poor. Defensive recruiting has been abysmal. I don't want to say coaching is suspect because we really do not know who does what as if it's some sort of secret, but I think it's safe to say we can lean to the idea of coaching being suspect easier than we can it being stellar. And I don't even care about a single isolated year. Programs go through ruts, it happens. The frustrating thing is that we can call is a mini downward spiral, most would agree on that front. I just don't see how the bleeding is going to stop moving into 2020 and forward.
  2. Yes, which I singled him out when I was talking about this after the SoMiss loss I believe. He has the size and offer sheet that is needed to have success. The others, not. at. all.
  3. Again, not advocating for his firing, at all. But what I am doing is just pointing out the obvious issues on the team while pointing out the obvious needs and lack of attention in recruiting in certain areas on this team. SL will definitely have a losing season this year which makes 2 of 4. The D, I find it hard to believe will see a surging improvement next season while breaking in a new QB. A very probable losing season, 3 of 5. We got him on the hook for at least another year until firings even are considered, unfortunately. So if our future QB's aren't saving the jobs of several coaches and getting other coaches promoted as Mason Fine has done (which is probably safe to assume), then we will not have a QB to be able to mask all of our team problems moving forward. I just don't see significant improvement with the roster setup as it is in either 2020 or 2021. Debbie down me all you like, but I am just simply calling it as I see it. Again, we must go heavy JUCO to fill crucial needs to contend for a bowl game next season and probably the year after. If the staff stays stubborn and refuses to do that, expect 2020 and 2021 to be losing seasons, three in a row and 4 of 6.
  4. Yeah, and yet some people keep pointing to our recruiting successes getting ready to boost the program back up. To that, how?
  5. Pretty sure he indirectly does this with some frequency. After losses he often times conjures up the words effort and execution and sets those words on the doorstep of the players.
  6. He doesn't need to be replaced, right now. Never said such. But what I did say is that 2020 & 2021 will be rough. So, stem up whatever you want from that.
  7. I'm not asking for SL's job. Others are. But to your question, there are several out there.
  8. There is not quality at OL or DL in either class. And I'm not having all of the answers. I'm just pointing out the problems. It's not my job to come up with solutions.
  9. It's a part of it, definitely. But it's more of a philosophical decision than a snap decision going into a season like, 'man we better get into a 3-man front because we don't have the dudes'. It's recruited with the idea you'll only need X amount up front to survive up front. It's also employed and often times mainly employed pending your conference situation, offensively. It's not a bad gig for a spread em out, air em out conference like CUSA. Also like the Big12, which is why Matt Campbell installed it at ISU when he took the job there. I don't personally like it because you leave too many vulnerabilities out on the field at all times. It's as if a team is trying to stop the pass and the run at the same time instead of just doing what 100% of the really good defenses in the history of football do, stop the run. Defenses that can stop the run can typically get decent to good pressure on QB's as well. I like the 4-3 with a freak playing the will so that the D can be turned into a 4-2-5 without even changing personnel if time is limited per the situation.
  10. For the same money? A lot of coaches would come here for a 1.8M salary, top 3 CUSA coaching salary pool, geographical footprint for recruiting and their own personal/family entertainment, and a brand new IPF. I think several eligible candidates would love to come here.
  11. At next seasons end, SL will probably still be the highest paid coach in CUSA (or at least top 2) and will have 3 losing seasons out of 5, no bowl wins, no CUSA trophies, and a disturbing amount of ugly losses to show for it. Year 6, we'll be closing in on a decade of SL and there is ZERO evidence of a good 2021 campaign. He does not value defensive football and he does not recruit well enough on the defensive side of the ball. He must replace his defensive staff and recruiting staff while going heavy JUCO to shore up holes to even be competitive in 2020. His value blows. His worth and his productivity do not correlate in any case.
  12. Get over it. Everyone involved. Quit letting Twitter fingers ruin your day.
  13. With or without him they were never getting beyond and probably not even to 6-6. Without him, I guess they're just worse. I see 1 win left on their schedule...maybe.
  14. Cal was never going to be good. That doodoo QB of theirs was terrible, is terrible. They are a defensive team that was never going to be as good as they could be because their offense, this and last QB, is horrible. We (some fans) were just looking for reasons to feel all warm inside after taking that L.
  15. Yup. This game has always resonated with me. They were 3-8 and we were 5-6 on the cusp of eligibility. And we let a 3-win UTEP team drop 50 on us. Sort of told me everything I needed to know about this staff. And, if we're being honest, not a whole lot has changed since except for having some of the easiest schedules in college football history.
  16. They garbage. Tried to tell people. But them damn green goggles.
  17. WVU. TCU runs some concepts of it. Boise runs multiple and they use it sometimes. I'm pretty sure ISU has adopted it. SDSU runs it as well I believe. I mean, it's not a reliable D. It's a spread defense that puts the onus on team speed, havoc, and turnovers. But teams that feel like they can't recruit up to their competition level typically install this. Less linemen needed so they substitute size for speed and roll the dice. I personally do not like it.
  18. Nah. It's Homecoming. I say 15k. That UAB game though, yuck. That will be an embarrassing site to behold. Maaaayyybe 5k. All the while...1.8M's are...
  19. Oh they definitely need to finagle us out of that game. That is supposed to be Dumbos 'breakout' season and probably our meltdown season. Doesn't seem to be good timing, at all.
  20. I think this is a legitimate question that should probably be made into a thread.
  21. Fans will stay away. No reason for anyone to go rile up anyone in this admin office about change. The fans will speak with their empty bleachers. It's the way of sports.
  22. I think the mess the previous poster was referring to was the mess of the contract situation that has been self inflicted with the little help of fat Jimmy. I mean damn man, SL is about to enter his 5th offseason. And he's reeling and dropping games that are unforgivable, again. Like, in your honest opinion, what year do we draw the line in the sand? Side note: His heralded classes that are being clamored for = very minimal quality at OL/DL. He will must go JUCO AND transfers to pull his ass out of this mess. There is no other way around it.
  23. That's great and all. And I see you being the pep squad leader for SL and this administration. But the offense, of which you named 4 players we are 'hurting' by not having, scored 38 points while putting up 550 yards of offense. The defense...Should've damn recruited better. You don't just get a pass because you lost players from the year before when you are going into your FIFTH year of recruiting. That's bogus. That is behind us. And even if you must bring it up, great. But we were playing CHARLOTTE. This loss falls squarely on the defense, Reffet or SL, whoever. But they shit the bed.
  24. I just can't fathom losing to what will be a 1-6 UTEP on Homecoming.
