  1. Well, I love the optimism. But the reality is damning.
  2. Football is swirling around the toilet bowl. Not just UNT football, but "mid major" football in general. I expect salary corrections at this "level" as well as staff reductions in the very near future. The NCAA's lack of forward thinking going on decades+ attorneys attacking the NCAA and relegating them to a meaningless governing body has damaged the ship. Sinking is next. Basketball at our "level" can continue to tread water due to not needing as many parts to create a competitive product. Until, of course, the major programs start whittling away at that a la NIT rule changes, Sankey openly telling the NCAA tourney committee to tread lightly in their selections, etc. Presumably more to follow.
  3. He was a good player for us. I just looked him up and the guy has played all over the world from Sweden to Israel to Vietnam to Australia.
  4. 100%. But, also, and, mainly money.
  5. Dang... after 7 years of success you'd think the company we keep on lists like this wouldn't look like THIS. Embarrassing.
  6. Give you? This player disrespected Longwood and shows no loyalty or commitment. And you're fine with it... . . . . .
  7. Bob here has a point... Fund our players, fund our program, buy tickets, pay for parking, overpay on concessions and merchandise.... all while the product inevitably withers away due to all of the rules currently in place. We're getting had coming and going. While the ignorant and rabid fan bases of the big boys can scalp their dumbass alum/fans, I don't think ours will play this game. And if our fans do, for how long? What is the ROI? And I think the pill would be easier to take if we knew the athletic department personnel were truly committed to the university. But we have a long and ugly history of athletic department personnel being committed to athletic department personnel. Outside of Patrick Cobbs, players or coaches or administrators, who really gives a shit about the University of North Texas? I think it's time, more than ever, to start hiring North Texas people. In this new age of collegiate athletics, passion and meaningful work will have to carry the torch. There is no better way to infuse the athletic department with passion than hiring North Texas people.
  8. Tangible ideas that will continue to move the AAC upward while also stating initiatives currently in action.
  9. This is an example of saying a lot while saying absolutely nothing.
  10. 100%. We were a consistent big on the floor - some injuries we took on from being a really, really good basketball team. Now it's all for not.
  11. We lost less last year with a coaching change.
  12. Getting to the NCAA tournament is an accomplishment. I think we have momentum and sustainability to lose. For us, that is a tremendous loss. Not to say we can't keep the mojo going, but it's easier when a trusted nucleus is returning.
  13. But it's now about brand recognition and money more than anything else. Do our peers have a better brand and more money? And players can get lured to that brand and money because the free flow of scholarships, money, and transfer capability. A coach choosing a job now, more than ever, just became much more about the resources and name of the school and the weight of their brand.
  14. Someone hit on this a few days ago... How are we and programs like us supposed to ever hold a coach accountable ever again?
  15. Posting fake passing stats at a fake football game.
  16. Welp... that's a wrap. There was a sliver of hope in building around Noland and Sissisko. Hodge will have to work miracles and land 5 guys that can contribute at a very high level day 1.
  17. Ok... ty. It's trendy right now in college football to have giant staffs, support staffs, etc. That's why I was asking. Just surprised to see a negative net or push program setup this way. Doesn't make much sense.
  18. Whatever fatty is eyerolling, that was a serious question.
  19. Size as in the physical size or size as in numbers...
  20. Is the defense improved and/or have we changed DC? No? Well, that's going to upset around the 15k average attendance.
  21. Uconn sort of is... they basically relegated their football program into irrelevance so they could get their basketball program back into the Big East. That's an administrative decision to dictate success in basketball. Purdue has an ogre that has stayed committed to them while improving year over year. NC State fancies themselves as a basketball school and they got hot. That's basically 3 universities that really hone in on basketball, a la basketball schools. Then Alabama - 3 ball game. When they're poppin 3s they are very difficult to deal with. If they shoot average or less from 3 they're very beatable. They can win and lose by 20 all the same.
  22. They've won 5 in 25 years, and will probably soon make it 6 in 25 years. 10 s16 in that same timeframe. Best program this century. They had some poor years in between here and there when they were trying to let a coach (Kevin Ollie) who won them a title early in his tenure try to figure it out, but was then caught cheating and ultimately fired. Hurley came in and cleaned house and struggled early, but now has it turned into a machine.
  23. They have to do what's best for them. No questions asked.
  24. In the new age of players constantly looking for brand recognition and offensive opportunities, a defensive minded PROGRAM can consistently compete.
