The money is too big, the results are too little. Anyone that argues this is not paying attention.

Malik Willis will be, hands down, the best QB we face this season.

This is where we're at as a program under a 6-year head coach... 24-point moral victory drubbings. Yay us.

Anyone still think the O is elite?

Don't let facts get in the way. You're simply, wrong. -

Somebody's been sippin'. Don't let me stand in your way. Last year was a case of garbage yards + garbage points in garbage late 3rd quarter/4th quarter minutes. They may have been serviceable, but that's the optimistic me. Reality me, they score points in premium minutes vs dog water teams. They do their scoring and yard scalping vs average or better teams in trash, game in the bag minutes. -

The offense hasn't been serviceable in meaningful minutes since Graham Harrell. That's common information. -

This is improvement. Not gonna get a lot of bitching out of me unless there is a complete collapse. -

I have no idea what to think of this UNT team. QB will have to step his game up for sure. Just be competitive and I can live with the results. GMG -

A bowl win would be a big deal given the state of the program. That means we finished 6-6 or better and finally got that coveted bowl championship under SL. That's optimistic me. Pessimistic me... We aren't beating anyone that would be considered a "big" win. We might sneak up on the likes of USM and win one we aren't supposed to win, but that's all I got for you. I realistically can't see us beating Mizzou or SMU right now. Or even Liberty for that matter.

I don't know many people who came out and said MF would NEVER start a game. Actually, I don't recall any here on GMG or around Denton. But the logic behind backing SL through hell or high water has no legs to stand on. It stinks of a Tony Benford scenario. It's old thinking. The man has more losing seasons than he does winning. No significant wins of merit (unless we want to count beating a what I believe was a 2-10 or 1-11 Arkansas Razorback team which also dropped games vs Co St and WKU in the same season). 0 bowl wins. 0 conference championships. Overall losing records. Most of his teams come out flat and do not seem inspired and sometimes uninterested. And a couple handful of really, really embarrassing losses to boot. That's more than the burden of proof. Now, please, someone explain to me how he's a good coach and has been for us?

Decade in Review – North Texas Mean Green
NorthTexasWeLove replied to Tom McKrackin's topic in Mean Green Football
No doubt. That's very douchey. And if you're writing about college football there should be a built in passion for college football. You should be able to rattle off all 130 FBS schools with minimal hesitancy if you are a legitimate journalist of the sport. It just happens far more than it should be there so called sport journalists. -
4-8. SL will need to b be gone. Two 9-win seasons is not enough to mask three 4-win seasons in a row and 4 out of 6 years with a losing record. I just can't see the justification to keep him on board outside of the big donor apathy to cut a check.

NCAA discussing Baylor infractions today

We're in a far and away more favorable geographic location than NMSU. They've done it, no reason we couldn't do it. There will be games to be played, even as an independent. If that's the hurdle to get over, that's a small hurdle. If we're afraid to leave a conference affiliation because of bowl slots then that's a better argument, albeit one that doesn't make me quiver. Florida State rose from nothing as an independent because they had a scheduling plan in place and emphasized team speed on defense before other people did. Worst case: UNT won't receive that luxurious 400k media rights CUSA check and might have trouble making a full schedule early. Then of course we might not get to go play Montana Tech A&M State in the Toyota Toilet Bowl in Bangar, Maine if we go 6-6. Best Case: We disassociate ourselves from G5 and CUSA. We could still play any regional CUSA school we want. We get to schedule whoever we want as we move forward as an independent to be. It makes more room for Cal/Mizzou/service academies type series. Start winning with consistency while controlling your schedule, people will take notice. You can pitch your schedule (that you control) to recruits. I personally don't see the advantage in keeping ourselves attached to CUSA.

15-20 years ago I would agree with you. That was a time where money, though still a factor, was not the ONLY driving factor. Education and the opportunities therein still held weight in regards to the political side of athletics. Collegiate sports are now being operated by the NCAA in theory only, media rights held by the names we all know are pulling all the strings behind the curtain. With that said, I don't see how Baylor and TCU make it out of this. I'm not sure how Vandy will hang onto its SEC membership. Same can be said for at least 2 or 3 programs in every P5 conference. I think before it's all said and done, maybe by 2030, we're going to be looking at a collegiate NFL model with maybe 25 teams in each division, at most.
