No. Things need to be turned around. Sucking is still sucking regardless of what conference patch is sewn to our players jerseys.

If I'm Judy, I'm going after Texas State, Lala, App State, and Arkansas State. Splitting into two 6-team divisions based on east/west geography. Then the presidents need to vote her off the island and get someone in there that will provide marketability. If done well, that'll be a solid 12 team conference in its own right to the point we might be wishing we stayed put.

I really hope we don't detach ourselves from you guys. I would consider it a mistake.

Be cautious. This feels like the "move up" from the belt to CUSA happening all over again. We get an invite and everyone leaves and we're right back at square 1.

Please stop blaming Wren Baker
NorthTexasWeLove replied to WanderingEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
I brought these very points up in 2018 and I was treated as the anti-Christ by just about everyone. Defense has been completely neglected, completely in every sense of the word. We outscored bad teams in the SL era in 2017 and 2018. When average teams came through the schedule we struggled. When above average teams came through we were throttled. This isn't a secret, but it always needs to be pointed out so the fence sitters see it. -

This has been a sinking ship for running years, yes. Mason Fine was holding this team together by having to outscore most teams we were fortunate enough to beat. Defense was never prioritized, never. Best win of the SL era was at home vs Army. Did you see our defense in that game? And that's just the tip of the iceberg. These results were inevitable, if you were paying attention. Defense being neglected + never finding a suitable replacement for MF while having 3 years to do so = our current situation. -
Yeah, I get it.

But it was reported that, or implied, that matters were ignored or swept under the rug. True or not, I have no idea. It boils down to hearsay.

What's Happening After Recruiting?
NorthTexasWeLove replied to Philip Ferguson's topic in Mean Green Football
Change. SL has no inspiration to give. He coaches with no fire in his belly. His hunger for success does not fit the UNT mold. I may be completely off on all of this, but body language and facial expressions carry a lot of weight. We, as human beings, do 80% of our communication non-verbally. His is putrid. -
I've never been a we gotta go get Holtz fan. But I have confidence for LaTech knowing Holtz will right that ship. Unlike my feelings here about us.
-
No we don't. Not sure anyone suggested that.
-
That's unfair. Unless of course known beaters were hired, kept, or allowed to stay on a team as a player. I know none of that happening.
-
If that happens, the whole place needs to be cleaned out. Top to bottom.
-
I could realistically see that happen.

UTSA at #24. Good for them.

What's Happening After Recruiting?
NorthTexasWeLove replied to Philip Ferguson's topic in Mean Green Football
QB play in general, good or bad, makes a significant difference. SL did not recruit that position very well when MF was a SO and JR, clearly. As far as the 16, 17, 18 class "rankings", who's job is it to recruit? And there are serviceable, respectable programs within their conferences that recruit 8th among their conference. Programs in that fold put a competitive group on the field many of years. The staff negligently dropped the ball on replacing MF and truthfully had THREE classes to find that replacement. Also, until this last class, defense had been completely ignored. These results should not be coming to you as a surprise. -
From this point on every loss is on WB
NorthTexasWeLove replied to p_phelps's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm not sure I am willing to place all blame at WB's feet. He did extend the man twice, prematurely. He'll need to financially right that wrong by monetarily cutting bait THIS year. If he doesn't then he's definitely marrying himself to SL's successes or lack thereof moving into 2022. It's all a very tough ordeal and some burden of blame and responsibility falls on WB. -
Please, no. This is a Cajun Dan McCarney.

Good for UTEP. I wonder if their coach has went heavy transfers? They've had pretty terrible HS recruiting classes. Yet, here we are with the "best" classes of CUSA and getting woodshedded every week. At this point, it is what it is. We've known what we are for running years now. Even when we were "good" we weren't really good.

Don't let facts get in the way of a cool narrative. -
UNT head football coaching position
NorthTexasWeLove replied to wardly's topic in Mean Green Football
Many people bring up Boise as the blueprint. That's difficult to blueprint. They have a financial monopoly on the MWC, much akin to the stronghold UT has or had on the Big12. The MWC bends over backwards and throws more money at Boise to keep them at bay with threats of leaving. Due to that, they can throw their weight around. We don't have that weight. More than likely never will. As far as spread offenses in Texas...So what. You can go get lightly recruited linemen that are undersized that will run off the ball and strike and I don't give a flip what offense they played in when they were high school kids. Truth be told, the forward pass and spread offenses at the high school level is from coast to coast in 2021. Yet, there are still college programs running the flex and other variations of. I just think the flex provides long term consistency, year over year. Instead of what we get, 1 decent year spread out over every 6-7-8-9 years. -
UNT head football coaching position
NorthTexasWeLove replied to wardly's topic in Mean Green Football
There are pros and cons to the job. But what job can we not say that about? If success or using unt as a stepping stone is the goal of a hire, well then that hire may want to look elsewhere. UNT will not build lasting success until we find our Gary Patterson. Someone 100% committed to unt with a burning rage of hunger for success. Given the day and age we're in, that'll be difficult to mirror. So, go flexbone. -
