  1. It's baffling. But... big followings = big egos with big pockets. It's not a "go to see johnell play," it's a pay whatever I can for my team to win. Not 1 fan/alum/student from UK or Arky gives a damn about johnell Davis. Not 1. NIL has gotten professional level to the point of market price or FMP. The only difference is there's no cap or contracts.
  2. Hmmmm... I remember a time not too long ago they literally shut their football program down on a whim. Like, a cocktail napkin conversation in a smoke filled back room sort of shut down.
  3. The rigor of collegiate academics aren't your daddies standard academics. Some places are said to be comparable to a good high school academics or that of your local community college. And that's just for the normal Joe blow students. Imagine being an athlete.
  4. Uhhh... because unlike AAA affiliates and major league teams, we compete with the money wielding programs. Huge difference
  5. This is 100% the best way to move this thing along. Even with all of the terrible rules in place. However, the legislators at schools that are alum of flagship universities wouldn't dare push this along in fear of their precious darling school possibly slipping into the cellar and possibly being victim to this relegation model. That's the challenge. Everyone knows relegation is the best and most purest form of parity that would create a somewhat even playing field over a long period of time. But 'they' don't want an even playing field. They want to show up to the poker take with a mountain of chips and bully the others. There is a tremendous amount of pride and ego associated with all of this.
  6. There is a clear precedent to push antitrust suits right now. And it's not happening... Yet, here we are.
  7. Tony Mitchell under an inspiring coach and quality nucleus.
  8. Viewed with? We're in the same conference with them. We're not viewed with them, we're literally with them. I don't want to be viewed with ACU, Bethunecookman, Campbell, Citadel, etsu, etc. Moving to the flex doesn't do that.
  9. The scenario/Q that always lingers for me is will the big money conferences ever consider dropping their dead weight? If they do, it clearly signifies a move to a legitimate semi-pro farm system setup for the NFL in a very clear and concise manner. If they don't, money will continue to bleed into incompetent hands and they'll continue playing the charade of "student"-athlete all the while dragging us all through their circus like marionettes.
  10. I like the big and the SFA guard. If the Longwood product keeps shooting like he did at Longwood to end the season then I'll like him, too. But... I respect them none.
  11. Defensively, yes. Offensively, I thought we had 2 Matthew Stones on the floor at times.
  12. I've been screaming for a mutually inclusive deal among G5s to set a standard visit fee for the better part of 15 years. I think interest wans incessantly if this happens. I don't hate the idea of it, but I hate the idea of UNT basically being relegated to how the FCS is generally viewed.
  13. Will people care, though? Is there a market for this? Is Buffalo vs Coastal Carolina going to fill up At&t in Dallas for the G5 national championship? Will the game Crack even 3M viewers? On the surface it appears to be an ok idea. But reality might set in and a move like this might push people away more than it brings them together.
  14. I don't understand the debate. When people say there is so much to do in DFW in comparison to other places when excusing our poor alum turnout for basically everything... like what? What is there to do? Something that is unique to DFW that keeps our alum so occupied event after event? To isolate it further to Denton is laughable... Speaking on ABQ specifically, the only benefit UNM has over UNT is there are no professional sports to get behind. But generally from my experiences, most people are typically diehard college OR pro fans. Not a lot of diehard both. Outside of that, give me AQB. Better city with more actual things to do, especially if you're an outdoorsman. Way prettier. Deeper rooted in culture. I mean, I guess if you like cities developed on top of former prairieland, farm fields, and cow pastures then DFW is definitely for you.
  15. 10,000 UNT alum donating to athletics...
  16. Maybe. If a reasonable cap is placed. But attorneys will call that racist and unethical... and somehow get their way.
  17. Dayum... wonder if any of that fedex money going to Memphis Softball? I kid, I kid... of course it's not.
  18. And to think, the mgsf paid for his education. And food, dorm, weights, training, etc. for 5 months for absolutely no reason. How is this sustainable again?
  19. It is not an elephant in the room. Team oriented players are more likely to WANT to play defense and WANT to stay where they are at. To me, this is a non-issue. Full disclosure: I have no idea what I am talking about. But I am starting to think that maybe CJ and Edwards were cancers to this program. CJ, the use-to-be P5 transfer and Edwards the up and comer that wanted a bag... Maybe they just talked shit all the time about the program to other players and how much money there is out there to go snag and it got our grounded players thinking about it... Last year our nucleus stayed and seemingly wanted to stay. Rubin and Aaron had offers out there to take at the end of last seasons NIT run. Enter CJ and Edwards into the fray and now they're all gone. Just uninformed speculation. But it's definitely worth noting that a coach has to always keep in mind what kind of player they are bringing around your current guys that have proven to be loyal...
  20. She's full of shit. What information did you want? Did you want CJ and yourself to have the ability to dictate to the coaching staff CJ's shot count, minutes played, and future money given? That's not how any of this works. And if UNM IS telling you that's how it works then they're lying.
  21. Yeah. Well, demographics and piss poor culture paired with awful support from the city has created this. We're in poor shape.
  22. There was an increase from an abysmal number to a higher abysmal number. Getting 4k in a Saturday game and being happy about it is pretty sad. And I have never understood people looking at other cities and saying, "They are able to draw because there is nothing to do." That's a total bs scapegoat excuse. There's the same ole crap to do there than there is anywhere else: overpaying for 'craft' beer, shopping at aesthetically pleasing dumb outside malls, movies, bars, restaurants, museums, etc. ABQ has all of that. ABQ also offers scenery and 2 hours from fantastic skiing. Dallas offers zero scenery or winter sports to speak of. If anything, ABQ is low key underrated.
