That's cool! I got hooked just over 10 years ago, been going to the Denton show ever since. There is a great lineup this year so don't want to miss it! The DCI tour premiere is broadcast live in local theaters and is set for June 20th, its good chance to see whats in store for the season while being indoors lol I'm a bit of a big fan and enjoy watching the classic and "old skool" shows pre 2000's. I'm a big SCV fan, but PR is my all-time fave! Crossmen had a great season last summer and I'll be excited to see them again as the make another finals run!

Any fellow drum corps fans here? The annual Drum Corps International North Texas event is coming to Apogee Stadium (Thursday, 18 Jul 2019 7:00 PM CT) for the first time ever, beginning this summer! Tickets on sale now: https://www.dci.org/events/2019-dci-north-texas This is a great community event for Denton, and will be great exposure for UNT and the Athletics department, and will no doubt serve as a recruiting tool for high school band students. If you need or want a reason to come out to Apogee in the blistering 100+ degree TX heat in the middle of summer, this event is a real treat.

THIS. Honestly the GB has been at the point for sometime now where it is too big to be effective with "corps style" drill writing. Music choice is always subjective, but drill design leaves a lot to be desired for the typical half-time show audience member. Competitive high school marching band (UIL & Bands of America) is big in TX, and many of those students want to attend a top Music Ed/Performance program like UNT, so I don't know if reducing the size of GB to make it more competitive and improve quality would be the something the College of Music would consider, as Music Ed students (wind/brass/percussion) are required to participate in GB. I think the new director can bring a mix of the corps style marching we are accustomed to, as well as the show band style that our TX counterparts at TTU and UT perform. A solid pregame and halftime show will greatly enhance the game day experience!

Spreading and sharing this post from one fan to another...As Mean Green faithful, we will always talk about the fight in our team, and to never give up on them or each other in even the most challenging of circumstances on gamedays during the season. For anyone on GMG like myself who has experienced the daunting battle against cancer with a friend or loved one, you know what it truly means to fight and to never give up. There are things in life that are much bigger than football, and you never know what battles people are fighting every day. I don't know Steve personally, perhaps some of you do, but lets show this fine man and fellow Mean Green fan some support through a follow, tweet, like, or share, and show him we care!

Hello GMG members! This is the Mean Green Maniac, and after years of following GMG as a guest, I've recently joined! I'm that crazy fan you may or may not have seen at the football/basketball games sporting football pads, crazy sunglasses, feather boas, face paint, and mohawk wigs! Been a MG sports fan since 2009 and endured the Dodge era as did many of us. I'm a UNT employee and an alum of the Green Brigade, and look forward to talking MG sports with everyone! Just wanted to share some exciting "sports" news out of the eSports arena and UNT: https://studentaffairs.unt.edu/news/UNTesports Here is the Official Notice from the president: Dear UNT community, This spring, UNT became Texas’ first public university with a collegiate esports program. At a launch event on Monday, April 16, you can learn more about this emerging sport. Esports is the competitive live play of video games with a cash prize pool. By launching UNT Esports, a program within the Division of Students Affairs’ Recreational Sports department, our students will have a huge opportunity to play on the varsity collegiate level against teams across the nation! Whether you’re well on your way to becoming a professional esports player or someone who has no idea what esports actually is, I invite you to join UNT Esports from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 16, in the University Union Lyceum for an Overwatch tournament. This event promises to be full of fun and Mean Green spirit. Our standout student gamers will help you learn more about this worldwide phenomenon that is the newest professional and collegiate sport. Students also can learn about upcoming tryouts for the League of Legends and Overwatch varsity teams. It’s exciting to see the university continue to respond to our students’ interests and to further develop programs in tandem with industry demand. Last year, the esports industry grossed $696 million in total revenue and is predicted to grow to $1.5 billion by 2020. Come see what it’s all about, and support our students! UNT Proud, Neal Smatresk President I myself am a gamer and I realize this is not a traditional "sport" nor is it included within UNT Athletics/MG Sports, but this is a huge and fast-growing competitive industry, and universities across the nation are taking part. What does everyone think?

DRC: Examining UNT's 2018 schedule
Mean Green Maniac replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Hey thanks for the welcome! I think that is an accurate assessment of the upcoming season. UAB is a strong team and should not be underestimated, but I hope we can beat them again.
