On campus tournaments are a nightmare. The city must have lodging for 14 teams, players, coaches, family, band, cheer, fans, media, and usual traffic while not becoming expensive. Easy access to airport. Multi court capabilities. Be in the footprint of the conference. Have parking to be able to hold at least 4 sets of fan bases at once. That rules out a lot of places. I like the area and set up in person but on tv it is ugly. They improved from year 1 so lets see what they do in year 3.

Their boosters. Yes. Money and influence means fans in seats? They have a really nice basketball stadium now, just a couple years ago threw money at a hall of fame coach and used their money and influence to have really good basketball teams. No one is saying SMU is a good program, school, or even a pretty turd. They have money and lots of it. Why is SMU in the AAC and we aren't? How does SMU even get mentioned by the BIG12 and we don't? They have lots of money and a little influence.

So if they don't care about us why would they let us in a conference with them and share their AAC money?

It has everything to do with SMU. We bring 0 to a conference with SMU in it. A conference is a group of schools that work together to compete together. Adding UNT will take the conference (group of schools) to agree. So saying SMU has no say in us joining the AAC is ridiculous. Add on all the back room politics and money they have to throw around.

Football is not like other sports. Basketball and baseball the more you play the better you can improve your skills or work on that one thing that is keeping you from the top level. Every year a football player gets older his value to a team goes down. Why pay to have your incoming products to be damaged goods?
