  1. Don't they have facilities issues? I think they play football in the old Turner Field. No idea what the deal with their basketball is.
  2. Most SMU people are the hanger-on "my friend is rich" type of people we all have met. They can't wait for you to gas up your boat and invite them to your lake house for the weekend. I've met enough SMU grads over the years to know the majority of them are just middle class people grinding it out like most college graduates. They might be luckier in that someone paid for their college education, if not, they're usually worse off financially than the state school kids who have far more manageable debt loads. As someone who's attempted to hire a few of them out of B-School, they think very highly of themselves and rarely have more skill than a UNT/UT/TAMU/TTech/UH grad. The alumni network thins quickly every mile you get away from the Park Cities. They sell the degree as a lock for getting you into IB jobs, when in reality other than a few local alum heavy firms, Daddy's "boutique" firm in Preston Center, and a family office or two, the degree holds no more (and probably less) water than most prominent TX biz schools.
  3. He appears to be defending it to those asking on X.
  4. The surrounding apartments keep that thing moderately full. The Riders frequently give away tickets to the complexes to give their residents. It keeps butts in seats and helps sell a few hot dogs sold in the blistering summer months. Not sure how sporting venues become "progressive" though. If you mean "stadiums built in denser urban areas with public tax dollars" then I guess I understand what you're getting at. Minor league parks can easily become public funding boondoggles. There's far too many examples of cities funding minor league baseball stadiums and the team shutting down or moving. Maybe they drive surrounding development and hotel and sales tax revenues, but maybe cows can fly too. Frisco would have still been Frisco with or without the investment. That being said, it's one of the best minor league parks you'll ever come across! Thursday nights are $2 beers in the outfield.
  5. This is great. I look forward to blocking my calendar every Tuesday at 11:30 to watch this. The players are pretty well media trained, too. Impressed all around! And Coach Morris is a breath of fresh air after years of Coach Mumbles.
  6. "earmarked" I hereby pledge $500m to UNT Athletics. I hope they come through on those pledges when you consistently lose to everyone but BC, Wake, and GT. Congrats on potentially becoming the Rutgers of the ACC! Will you both end up in the MAC within ten years or will it happen sooner?
  7. I hope they eat it up at Michigan this week. That would be a beautiful upset.
  8. I have one of these. They're great but probably will not make it through the whole game + tailgating if you're planning for that. It always seems to die around 4 hours on the medium setting.
  9. At least half of America was paralyzed by something specific happening in the world in 2021. Attendance for the 2020 and 2021 seasons will be full of anomalies.
  10. That sounds poorly thought out. There's never a lack of people in there. If there were one change I'd like to see, it would be the ability to buy admission ($10? $15?) for additional people past my lovely +1 wife. At a minimum, I think there should always be one Alumni Association member in each group coming in.
  11. We also booked into National last night. It was $40 more for the Friday night flight, but getting a rental car at BWI is a process, and Baltimore is a dump anyway. We'll stay in the District and jump on the Metro back to National in the morning to grab a rental car to drive to Annapolis for the day. We're spending the day back in the District on Sunday and flying back on the last flight out on Sunday night. It should be nice weather that time of year there, hopefully!
  12. Love it. Bring an unopened but empty recyclable bottle of water. ✅
  13. Park in the Blue Lot behind the stadium if they sell drive-up tickets on Sat. Get there early. If you park in the cheap parking in the Orange Lot (Fouts Field Lot), you'll need time to hike across the pedestrian bridge over I-35. If you park in the Blue Lot, you'll need time to get into the lot, especially if you're hoping to pay for a spot (sometimes they stop drive-up purchases for the Blue Lot). There's usually plenty of activity in the Plaza behind the east side of DATCU. There will be a stage with bands and usually organizations or companies giving out free samples and other giveaways. If you're an Alumni Association member (which you should be if you hold a degree from UNT), go to the Alumni Pavillion near the bridge on the north side of DATCU. There will be electric fans, shade, free food, a band (either playing Country or depressing acoustic versions of 90s/2000s pop-rock anthems 🤐), football games on TV, and a cash bar. Tell your wife or girlfriend (bring both!) and your daughters to not bring their purses. Bring everything in a stadium clear bag. They sell them on Amazon for $10-12 if you don't have one from other major sporting events. Cheer loud. We don't get P5 teams at home very often!
  14. No, they do not. Too many folks would get salty about letting people up Ad Hoc when the Ticket Office made all of us pay for PSL-esque mandatory "donations" just for the right to buy each season's tickets. You can find people selling them occasionally on StubHub. I've missed two games in the six or so years I've had the Club Tix. One sold for face value (the UTSA game where it was pouring rain in Nov) and the other did not sell at all, even at a slightly discounted rate prior to game time. The cheapest face value of the outer sections is $125 a tix. With the free sodas and meals its actually a decent value... not to mention air conditioning and tv's showing other games.
  15. They've caught on to people filling them with vodka and resealing them to bring into concerts or festivals that allow a sealed bottle of water to be brought in. Sorry college coeds, you'll still have stuff liquor bottle minis in your underwear like you've always done.
  16. Isnt that one of the Tommy Bahama shirts from last season? I saw it in the store downstairs during ticket pickup a few weeks ago. I think it's around 95 dollars.
  17. Thank you for being a season ticket holder. The Alumni Pavilion is a great place to grab a free meal prior to the game (beer/wine is not free but available). If you aren't an Alumni Association member you should join. Be at every game, be loud, wear lots of green.
  18. LaTech, Navy (hopefully), Tulane, SMU (is it really an away game when we have more fans there?), and Tulsa. Those who know going to games at Annapolis, it appears all the hotels have been sold out for months or you're paying $500 to stay a Spring Hill Suites. Are people just staying by BWI Airport? Any recommendations? Any small nice spots farther east on the Bay? I don't mind paying a few hundred for a room, but I'd rather not pay $500 for a limited service hotel facing a Chili's.
  19. These are the same folks who make it incredibly challenging to add occasional single game $150+ tickets to the Club Section when I haven't seen new faces in the empty seats around me in 5-6 years.
  20. Their time in the Big East is equivalent to SMU's time in the SWC. They have a hard time forgetting fonder days. At least the Big East was more recent. Delusions of grandeur.
  21. We'll be there. Currently loading up on Margaritas before at a local Denton watering hole.
  22. There was a logoed Nike Bucket Hat 2-3 seasons ago in the bookstore at the Union. I looked for it again before the 2022 season and couldn't find it at the Bookstore or Online at any of the gear websites. As you might imagine, almost all other P5s and many G5s still seem to have one in production by Nike.
