  1. We were there. We were all there. Joe Greene. Lizzie Greene. The Mean Green. Largest parade in school history. A game that featured two of the top quarterbacks in the nation. And a victory to top it all off. Fly Like An Eagle!

  4. Friday in Fort Worth, the Arlington Heights HS FCA was lead by 2016 Heights grad Deion Hair Griffin. The 43 athletes at the FCA gathering enjoyed pizza, fellowship and a word of encouragement from Deion. Great shirt!
  5. September 24, 1946. It was a great day for North Texas. Charles Edward "Joe" Greene born this day in Temple, Texas. Happy Birthday, Joe! Fly Like An Eagle! GMG! And "LIGHT THE TOWER"
  6. If we continue running this same defensive alignment, we are going to have to figure out how to average 2 TDs per quarter to win even a single game this year. We clearly do not have the athletes to run a 3-3-5 as we cannot stop the run and are not able to apply any pressure on the QB. Back to the drawing board to put the players that you have into the best possible situations you can create for them. Four-man front with 6/7 in the box, many more stunts, etc. Hey, even my wife, who only goes to the games to "people watch" commented "Aren't we too spread out on the line? They can run whenever they want." Stats would say that she is correct. Anyway, when you are last in the country it's OK to do some unconventional things. You can't be worse than last. Meanwhile, better figure out how to score at least 56 points a game.
  7. Reported to be the 3rd largest crowd ever at The North Texas Volleyball Center. Way to Light The Tower, Ladies!
  8. NT Class of '58 Larry Jeff McMurtry (June 3, 1936 – March 25, 2021) was an American novelist, essayist, prominent book collector, bookseller and screenwriter whose work was predominantly set in either the Old West or contemporary Texas. His novels included Horseman, Pass By (1962), The Last Picture Show (1966), and Terms of Endearment (1975), which were adapted into films. Films adapted from McMurtry's works earned 34 Oscar nominations (13 wins). His 1985 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel Lonesome Dove was adapted into a television miniseries that earned 18 Emmy Award nominations (seven wins). The subsequent three novels in his Lonesome Dove series were adapted as three more miniseries, earning eight more Emmy nominations. McMurtry's birth certificate states that he was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, the son of Hazel Ruth (née McIver) and William Jefferson McMurtry. He grew up on his parents' ranch outside Archer City. The city was the model for the town of Thalia which is a setting for much of his fiction. He earned a BA from the University of North Texas in 1958 - Wikipedia.
  9. Sam the Lion/Mean Green Fans: You see? This is what I get for bettin' on my own hometown ballteam. I ought'a have better sense. Abilene/Cal Fans: Wouldn't hurt to have a better hometown. The Last Picture Show (1971)
  10. Sam The Lion/Mean Green Fans: “A few teams have had some luck with tackling. Keeps the other team from scoring so often. Sonny/NT Defense: “Sounds too rough for me.” Sam The Lion/Mean Green Fans: “Where's your school spirit?” Sonny/NT Defense: “Don't know.” The Last Picture Show

  12. Yep. Morris better figure out a way to cover up for our leak LB corps or "3" will be our win limit, too.
  13. We got schooled in Lubbock! Tech had us chasing the ball all night. Their field awareness was outstanding as was their passing!
  14. Just an old school guy here. I'll probably just refer to it by a nickname, you know, something boring like "Eagle Stadium". My wife (also NT grad) thought I was joking when I told her the new name. Tried to explain the whole thing. It didn't take. "Fly Like An Eagle"

  16. So, who will be the Ones and Twos on the OL next year?
  17. Charlotte is picked for an at-large slot and North Texas stays home. Didn't we beat them during the regular season and in the tournament, too? And, oh, didn't we just beat the NCAA #6 seed? It's tough to be an Eagle.
  18. I realize now, 50 years later, that my players won in spite of my coaching! I think our lack of hitting this season has made Coach try some things that he would have never thought about last season. I suggested to one of our players that they just go ahead and score 5 in the 1st inning tomorrow so our blood pressure might get back in line for a day.
  19. As the SS I would guess that she had at least 10 more errors that anyone else in 2022. So, the replay in the first game showed that the umps blew the call at first and Simon was given an error. If they had made the correct call she would only be one error off of last year. I'm sure that she wanted her fielding avg. to be better than last year, but her fielding ain't the problem. When the 5-9 hitters that finished the game have a combined BA of .215 you don't need to look any further than that to identify the problem we're having.
